Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

Recommended Posts

I just went through the Chronoscope Bones on the reapermini site, and only 808 is a repeat that I can see - it's 80005 Andre Durand.

Part 1 is Pulp and Steam.

Part 2 will be Modern and Horror.

Looks like old stuff I already have that I wanted. A pass from me.

For those of you waiting for Chronoscope, what's the consensus right now? Is it what you expected?

Imo for a themed set this bunch of miniatures are completely lacking of any cohesion: if it's steampunk, there is only a couple that fit, and it would have been nice to have some steampunk machinery instead of... Santa and a mad doctor.

Great start on Chronoscope. Do I want it? Meh, maybe. Do I need it? Probably not. Am I ecstatic that it is a thought out presentation. Dwarf, yeah. More like this, please, Reaper!

Chronoscope stuff looks like a miscellaneous bunch of useful non-fantasy to me. Not special, but useful. And honestly, a lot of the expansions have been like that to me. And "useful" is a nice state to be in.

Sadly, it appears it's going to be exactly what the last couple of weeks of feedback from Reaper have led me to expect.

it's going to be another scattershot collection of minis.

Hopefully I'm wrong, and parts 2 * 3 show a more cohesive theme, and skirmish usable units.

801 is 80031 decker lugstampf

811 is 80033 Frank Buck

804 is 80006 steampunk witch

808 is 80005 andre durand

805, 806, 807, 809 may be, or at least look extremely similar to stuff i already have in bones

Other than a few obviously steampunk figures, I think it's a really nice Pulp set up.  You could plunk most any of those figures down  on an old wharf in 1930's New Orleans, bathed in the soft light of an old dive where the sounds of rough curses and rowdy laughter spill out into the thick humid air, and have yourself one heck of a fun encounter or skirmish game!

Now where could I get some docks and a small boat to make an old wharf...  Hmmmm? ::)::rolleyes:

A Charnel House is a place where the rendering of animal carcasses into useable cuts of meat takes place.

The Charnel Pit would be where all the mostly waste bits would end up, to be collected by a Renderer and turned into tallow, ground up bone meal and etc.

So if you combine this information with a bit of imagination I think you will have a pretty clear mental picture of what this expansion is intended to represent.

Let me see if i can make some sense of these figures...

801 Old dude in steam-power armor with big wrench (Decker Lugstampf)
802 Lady in steampunk clothes holding a weird raygun and... mask?
803 Bearded guy in steampunk clothes with a techno-cane and pocket watch
804 Steampunk witch
805 Cowboy-ish man with weird raygun
806 Steampunk girl with weird raygun
807 Cowboy-ish guy in long duster with raygun rifle
808 Steampunk hero with squirtgun and power glove (Andre Durand)
809 Vampire hunter in long duster with wooden cross and holy dagger
810 Guy in deep sea diver suit (minus helmet) with speargun
811 Indiana Jones (aka Frank Buck)
812 Immodest geisha with fan
813 Explorer in pith helmet with pistol and rifle
814 Scientist (?) with power glove and big hypodermic?
815 Man in old fashioned suit holding up a card
816 Baron Samedi
817 Santa Claus

I'm... uh... not sure what to do with this...

Just a fun little surprise I happened across earlier.  No pictures of the dice and it's ending today, but some really nice ones on their store and I've friends who own some so I thought I'd give it a go.

      About
Welcome to the Great Wall draft page – the campaign is not live yet, but we will be gradually adding more and more information about the game here! We are incredibly excited to hear your feedback, so please let us know what you think. If it looks interesting to you - make sure to click the "Notify me on launch" button!
The Great Wall is a new major board game from Awaken Realms (creators of Nemesis, Tainted Grail, Etherfields and many other acclaimed products). Players will take the roles of generals of an ancient oriental empire who lead the defence against ruthless hordes. You will need to gather allied advisors, manage your workers, recruit armies and, together with other players, raise and defend the Great Wall! As the game progresses, you will often need to co-operate or negotiate with other players, but make no mistake – there can be only one winner!
This fresh worker (and soldier!) placement game for 1-4 players faces them with many difficult choices and often pushes them to interact with each other. You will be assigning your workers to eleven different locations, such as Tea House, Quarry, Messenger Post, or Barracks, using special Command cards that have additional effects. Production in locations activates ONLY when all their slots are filled, but filling them all by yourself can result in a penalty. On top of that, players can buy overseers who will give additional output every time a location becomes activated. This creates a lot of involving long- and short-term strategies.
Each player starts with one unique General, characterized by their asymmetric power, as well as the production level. From there, you will further customize your economic engine and fine-tune your strategy by recruiting advisors who provide additional bonuses.
Eventually, a Wall Defence phase beings, where players place previously build armies on Horde Cards – earning Honor (Victory points) and looting resources from the defeated troops. This requires smart management of three types of units: Archers, Spearmen and Cavalry. Players place these soldiers one by one, playing the Tactics cards that create another layer of interaction.
Gain meditation by shooting with the Zen Archer, then spend meditation on a Cavalry Squad Leader to move your Cavalry around the battlefield faster, and – finally – finish off by getting extra Honor for each of the Cavalry’s engagements thanks to the Banner Holder. There are endless possibilities for great combos and memorable plays.
On top of that, your Advisors and General might give your troops extra abilities, such as shooting twice or looting twice the resources!
All of the above makes the Great Wall one of our most strategically involving designs that will be appreciated by many different groups of players: those who love euro-styled games with their intricate economies and engine-building, those who love over-the-table play, bargaining and negotiations – and finally, those who simply like to wage war on a beautiful map.
