Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

I forgot - we still need that Treasure Golem some of us started asking for a couple Kickstarters ago.

One thing to note is that Kickstarter funding patterns have changed this year.  Many of the bigger Kickstarters have smaller finishing surges relative to their initial surges.

That's not to say that Bones 5 won't finish higher than all previous Bones campaigns, but the medium isn't as predictable as in years past.

Good to know.

something i drew many many many years ago   seems fitting

I totally agree with you in that those particular exaggerations are not very realistic in function. This was a challenging character/figure to create because I wanted her to read as feminine but als

You have your needs.  I have mine.

Very true, but it does make sense for them to make it for the current sizing, as I think more people would have use of it that way. It is all about what would sell the most

Just an FYI, but the WizKids prepainted miniatures released two versions of a Huge Titan mini 18 months ago in Monster Menagerie 3.  I have both, and they are pretty decent.  They actually go for fairly cheap on the secondary market (~$5 last I saw).  It's called an Empyrean in the set (the 5e name for them).

It looks like a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe action figure repainted grey.

Which... isn't a bad idea. So obviously, now I want a Bones titan with "Karate-Chop ActionTM!"

I did see some comments that the Catoblepas really shouldn't have it's head raised.  Good to see some oldies though, the Froghemoth was one of my favorites from Bones 3.

I believe this was done to meet 5e basing standards.  D&D's basing rules are really weird and often contradict the description of the creature.  If you make a long creature fit the proper size base, it often needs a pose that is not in line with the description.  If you match the description, D&D players who care about base sizes won't buy it because it hangs over the base too much.  It is a catch 22 for Izzy, us sculptors, and Reaper.

How about this: (??)

Catoblepus — a Gygaxian Age monstrosity,  had trouble raising its head. Long rope-like neck and so on....

But! Catoplebus — a monstrous horror rumoured to haunt the swamps around Dreadmere, it has a stout neck and the foul beast enjoys a commanding view of its surroundings.

That was 2 editions and almost 2 decades ago...

since we use 2e and 3e, i guess is too small.  MAKE IT BIGGER :P

its fine.  not a high priority creature in that sense.  but its so cool so i can accept it.

where i have issues are with stuff that should be truly epic. ancient dragons, demon lords, etc.

@ksbsnowowl yeah i repainted the gargantuan orcus from some years ago, but i cant stand the prepaints.  they are made for quick collection growing and non painters, but really the sculpts, etc arent very good IMHO.   for me, not worth repainting.

I'd prefer a higher quality bones one.  My ideal, would be a high quality GF9 resin/plastic one, a GW plastic set that stands in really well for it or a mierce resin model for a titan.

BUt i do generally like the bones monsters even though, as ppl here know , i do have issues with some (Even the ones i like, like argent).

still cant wait to see what comes up in the next few days/weeks.

@JDizzO oh yes, the froghemoth is spectacular.  example where i sold my GF9 resin classic styled froghemoth.  I've begun some resculpting on my bones one.  to fit the way i will do the base.  extending tail and extended a tentacle as well.  It will be rising from the mud, so part of tail will be under the mid and rising up (so not fully visible) so extending it so some of it will be lashing out of swamp water.

Maybe a lot of new people who don't have a stash as big as mine and want a "basic" foundation for the mini collection?

This. I think Reaper is doing an excellent job this time around of providing enough "new and useful" to keep old hands interested (even if not necessarily pledging as much, but *interested*), while really playing a very solid "so you're a newcomer" game that will attract more new hobbyists and expand the market. Miniatures can't cater to "people who used Testors Enamels to paint their Grenadier figures in order to play Chainmail*" forever. New blood!

*Hyperbole. That market hasn't been alone in this hobby for a looong time.

True. "Thanks" for pointing that out to those of us still running 3.5.... I'm not old, I'm "vintage!" (I'm not even that vintage, truthfully...)

(Although I'm not sad about the catoblepas' size. If I really want it on a 3" base, it's not too small to fill it.)

(sorry, saw word vintage and just had too)

i would have liked them, if i don't already own 2 sets of them with different armor and weapons but the same pose

it's teh same for the new Fantasy dinos (Barring the new sculpts like the stego)

but yes, the Sci-Fi dinos, prehistoric dino people, the new fantasy dinos, and now the samurai dinos, are all using the same model and just swapping out armor and weapons

Somewhere, deep in the bowels of Chris Lewis's computer stands a gathering of naked dino-kin, their arms stretched wide in a T-pose when suddenly a light fills the room.  The T-rex looks at the others and says in a commanding tone, "Dino Squad, prepare to suit up!?"

One upside, this means that Urban Legend dinos would not be out of the question.  Just saying...::P:

I wish they'd spend less time twitching and twiting and add some size reference to the KS images. This thing seems kind of slapdash so far. If only they'd had a forum full of people telling them that they needed to get someone whose job it was to do this when Ladystorm left. It's really our fault, since we didn't mention it to them.

YES WE DID! Several times as I recall, I think someone even offered to be their Frontman:rolleyes:, @Reaper Ron and ed cannot be expected to do everything, they need someone who is exclusive Reaper PR.

      I leave this here:

      Story
Wellcome to our biggest miniatures ever! Blood and Skulls ork rider is the largest and more detailed miniature in 70 mm scale that Nocturna models released in all of these years. This project is really monstruous and we need your help to fund it.
Take a look at all the figures in the campaign, all of them are in 70 mm scale. Blood and Skulls is 28 cm high!
        28 cm total size

I've bought everything this company has put out so far.  I'll probably pick up these two as well.  Really great figures based on classic artwork.

These two are both nude, so I can't show pictures here!

"The muses" is a range of miniatures offered by Golem Miniatures.
These 80 mm scale figures, in limited edition, will all come from realistic and oriental paintings of great painters of the nineteenth, a period that we greatly love.
During the fourth campaign "The muses", we had suggested that you submit ideas for the next muses. A vote had then been put in place to decide between the 27 muses that you had selected.
One muse dominated this vote: "La boîte à bijoux" painted by Guillaume Seignac.
To accompany it, a second muse has been chosen on the same theme: "human skin on animal skin". You will discover it below, hoping she inspires you! :)

During the third Muses campaign, we produced the magnificent Lady Godiva painted by John Collier, a famous English painter and one of the founders of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
Here is another of his works: "Lilith" painted in 1889.
Lilith is a mythical Hebrew and Biblical figure (Adam's first wife), whom some see as the very first portrayal of feminism in history.

      Story
I'm Adam Sadler, senior game designer at Blacklist Games, and I love miniatures. They are what got my brother Brady and me into the hobby back when we were teenagers. Whether we’re using them in roleplaying games, board games, or tabletop miniatures games, we love collecting, assembling, painting, and playing with them. While Blacklist Games has published several of our games that feature miniatures, they saw our passion could be used for the creation of a new division that would focus solely on miniatures and allow for company growth in parallel with creating great board games. With everyone at the company excited about the possibility of this new division, here we are to share it with you!
Blacklist Miniatures will focus entirely on producing high quality, highly detailed, pre-assembled plastic miniatures to be used in any type of game. Blacklist Miniatures: Fantasy Series 1, our first miniatures line, is not only a celebration of our love for miniatures, but also of all things fantasy.
With your support, this campaign will not only bring this project to life, but also open the door to other lines of miniatures in various genres and even new games to utilize them!

First time posting a KS thread.  Tribality is releasing a companion book to their previous KS "Seas of Vodari."  I thoroughly enjoyed the previous book and have been looking forward to this one.
As this is the first time I'm posting a KS thread, please feel free to let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.

I think that's enough for context.  The rest can be found on the KS page.
