I think about 152 if I counted correctly

I updated my spreadsheet about which mini's I and my co-backer want, and you are correct.  The Core set has a total of 152 miniatures, plus the dice set.  That's 79¢ per mini.  Not as good as the KS's of the past, but inflation will do that to you.  You also have to factor in that this core is largely* Bones Black.

*I say largely, as it may turn out that some of the translucent mini's end up being old Bones, not Bones Black.

Translucents can also be Bones Black. The not-displacer beast and the purple fungus in Bones IV were Bones Black and they're purple translucent.

I am curious about the size of the monsters in this one - there are at least 20 that are larger than humanoid that I swiftly counted in the core set. How does that compare to previous ones?

I haven’t started my list yet but I know it’s going to be big.
I’ll have to list by priority.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to write down the mental priority list I've been building in my brain.  I'll probably end up getting some of my "maybes" before I actually get a third copy of most of the dragons, for example.

Anyone know who Backer #1 is this time around? I am #4 (which is barely off of #2 that I was in Bones 3).

I am very far down the list despite being there at launch. Thanks to the lag that happened -.- there were 0 backers when I hit pledge and I was in the hundreds after it finally processed a half hour or so later, there was just so much lag

Ah, I had seen it said Bones Black could be translucent, but I didn't know there was actually an example in production yet.  So yeah, the Core is likely to be all Bones Black, then.

A quick perusal of Bones 4's Core set comes up with ~18 Large or larger miniatures (some of that includes terrain, such as the pumpkin cart), and I don't have any of the mini's from Bones 4 Core, so can't be sure of sizes, so take it with a grain of salt.

Bones 5's Core set has 23 on the final KS graphic, but that's still missing the Lion-Dragon and the Overgourd pumpkin beholder.  So 25 Large or larger miniatures?

This Kickstarter was filled with understated and underrated minis, actually - for example, "Dungeon Dwellers" was full of them.

The girl with the sword and laser in the Chronoscope expansion - sort of a not-Dejah-Thoris, Princess of Mars - stood out to me as a great new mini, and I think I would have liked to have seen a whole third of that expansion dedicated to similar characters plus some appropriate sword-and-raygun wielding aliens from the same sort of not-Barsoom planetary fantasy setting... sure, it's going to be a niche setting (sadly, since there's a HUGE amount of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom's DNA running through D&D), but for me it was sort of a tantalizing glimpse into what could have been, had Reaper done more than just put that one mini in the set; and, with all the other stuff going on there, almost nobody noticed her....

Or an Encounter called Sands of Mars, Tars, Dejah, John, against four armed apes or Martians.

I LIKED the John Carter of Mars movie, dammit!

Mismarketed all to broccoli!

Just wanted to mention there are not-Barsoom minis out there if you want them.    For those who might not be aware, look at Bronze Age Miniatures, and Tinman Miniatures to start.

And count me as another fan of the movie! (And the books!)

Some pieces like the zombie giant may still not be Bones Black. It seems like they're trying for as many as can work well in the new material, but not all of them are good candidates.

Wow!  I didnt expect all the replies! Thank you for those who took the time. I think my issue is my other main hobby is gaming, and with steam and humble bundle I'm used to extremely cheap entertainment, and slow burn purchases.  I get antsy spending more than 100 at any given time.  I do recognize the difference in KS and retail.  I would love a mal drakar or the artillery gun from earlier KS, but the retail price is more than I can afford... looking at the KS price makes me jealous.  (Didnt know bones existed till about bones 4 time).  For me, my wife and I are cheap dates, so the closest I could compare it to would be a cedar point trip.    I'll have to add slowly though, you guys are right on that.  I suppose compared to drugs and alcohol it's a good deal right?

I need to get some paints as well, I'm using delta cermacoat right now but apparently the dedicated model paints are much better.

Cedar Point; haven't been there in decades, but, yes, an amusement park day is probably pretty pricey these days, and comparable to shows, etc.

If by "slow burn purchases" you mean that a computer game will last quite a while before it's been "burned out" for you, then miniatures should be similar in the long run.  So, yes, compared to that background, this could certainly seem like a lot of money dropped at once.  (We will also hope that you maintain your interest for the next 18 months--what sort of miniatures work are you doing now?)  After nearly 50 years in "this hobby" (since 1971), I'm confident that my interest will be sustained, as long as I remain capable of painting and/or playing, but it's not a small commitment if you're newer.  Hanging out here is a good way to stay enthusiastic...

Chris Palmer posted a few pictures from our recent game day, which I mention because the game I'm playing in them was originally designed to be part of a $100 challenge (less paint):

https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/64666-house-tabletop-opens-the-gameroom-come-on-in-and-talk-gaming-and-paint/&do=findComment&comment=1874872

Chris, by the way, has a long running blog on painting Bones, and he uses the craft acrylics:

http://allbonesabout.blogspot.com/

Personally, I love the Reaper paints, especially the time you can save for gaming with the paint triads, but it is an area in which some economy can be practiced.  (The other is to paint from a limited collection--I take ~20 colors with me when I travel, for example: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72131-travel-paint-kit/)

Anyway, welcome to the friendliest forum discussing the greatest hobby. ::D:

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who wants an obscene amount of minis from this KS....

There’s just so much fun stuff!

My imagination has been prodded by this one in a way that Bones 4, for some reason, didn't.  Sadly, the real question is whether I will still feel that way when things finally deliver.

For logistics reasons, I suspect that Reaper's statement that the Core and all the expansions would be cast in Bones Black will hold. It's my understanding that those minis are cast in a different factory and with different machines than the regular Bones figures. And you would really want to have your packaging done at the same place as the casting to reduce the chances of problems at that step of the process.

No inside knowledge though.

I thought you guys might like a closer shot of the Cockatrice mini encounter that I worked on! I'm glad I got new pictures in on time. I had a lot of fun doing these guys! The Cockatrices were based on some excellent Izzy artwork, the nest was Ron's suggestion, and I thought it would be fun to include a little egg thief!

It amuses me to think that the Halfling left behind the other treasures because, to him, the giant egg for second breakfast WAS the treasure! I didn't sculpt him specifically as a "statue" because I thought I would leave it to the painter to decide if he made his escape or not...

I hope you all enjoy them!

Cockatrice Nest Top.jpg

These are fantastic! The whole Fan Favorites expansion is a hit but here were certain parts like these cockatrice and the Hobbit that really sold it! A friend and I pledged together and we couldn't split the FF so we are each buying one.

The new encounter concept this kickstarter is great! As a DM, a player, and a painter, they are so useful!

I would actually love to see this as a PC issue, not just women.

Eight sculpts of each non-human race you can think of: four male, four female. Each set of four to consist of: An armored warrior, a lightly armored technician, a robed magic-user, and a fourth that makes sense for the race.

48 models in the expansion gives you six races. Tortles, firbolgs, Goliaths, gnomes, halflings and dragonkin?

Tieflings! We need tieflings! We also need bards! good bard minis are so few and far between.

My understanding is that the polymers used are inherently transparent/translucent. There are coloring agents and opacifiers that are ADDED to produce the plastics we all know and love. BB apparently adds a hardening agent as well, would be my guess. The plastic straight out of the mold with NO agents added would probably look like the Invisible Heroes set for Bones 3. Understand, this is just a layman's knowledge, but I did work a blow molding production line at one point in my life, and I remember our raw stock (plastic pellets) being translucent. A side note, one of the reasons why we see so few bad casts is the usual procedure in plastics manufacturing for handling a bad cast is to feed it to a grinder, which then mixes the ground up bad cast with the new raw stock and feeds back into the production line. As long as any coloring agents, hardeners, etc are the same for the batch, you are golden. This was over 30 years ago, the tech has probably advanced since then.

One of the world’s most timeless lawn decorations can now come to life on your tabletop. Whether you need comparably adorable force to face off against other pint-sized foes, or you’re just obsessed with garden gnomes, these miniatures will make a great addition to any collection.

I have a few preview gnomes on my painting workbench. They are great! Small, simple, metal, easy to paint, but full of personality. [/unsolicited review]

Another “large collection of miniatures” kickstarters, reminiscent of the recent Blacklist Games Fantasy kickstarters.

I am tempted, even though it covers a lot of things we already have.
