Just wanted to mention there are not-Barsoom minis out there if you want them.    For those who might not be aware, look at Bronze Age Miniatures, and Tinman Miniatures to start.

And count me as another fan of the movie! (And the books!)

We have some of the Bronze Age minis - for a Mars RPG game that was Kickstarted - then never delivered - a few years back. (It still gets called out, from time to time, on Tenkar's Tavern.)

Thanks. My sculpts were the Goroloth, Arakoth the Spider, Catoblepas, and the bar.

Thanks.  No just the bar in that expansion. That was enough; got my carpal tunnel all inflamed trying to get it all presentable in time.  I only got the commission from Ron last Sunday.

Great idea, thanks. I put your art in my reference file. I think it will actually solve an issue I’m having and meet one of Ron’s requirements in that the maid is supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek, like a Bigmouth Billy Bass. I’ll run it past Ron.

...now I have to get the Brinewind terrain expansion ::P:

Being an adult means that you pay all your bills and buy vegetables (to let them die in the fridge) and responsible stuff. After you’ve met your responsibilities, being an adult means you get to spend your funtimes monies on whatever you want. Including sugary cereal or minis. So anxious adult brain can stfu!

I agree. Though, the most likely fate of the chicken house is getting it legs chopped off and added to a Halloween village.

I’d looooooove more minis based on that gal. More of a ray guy sci fi feel. Gimme!

Or an Encounter called Sands of Mars, Tars, Dejah, John, against four armed apes or Martians.

I LIKED the John Carter of Mars movie, dammit!

Mismarketed all to broccoli!

And I'm a fan of the movie, too - talk about under-rated!  It's not 5/5 stars or anything like that, but it deserved better than to be ignored and dismissed the way it was.

I would have liked to think that John Carter would have picked up a cult audience after the fact, but seems to be ignored as much now as it was in theaters.

Considering the novels were a direct inspiration (if not a source for an outright rip-off) for everything from Star Wars to Superman, and the movie itself wasn't any worse than the Star Wars prequels or many of the superhero movies in theaters at the same time, it really should have gotten more interest and support than it did.

And it really seems like the marketing and PR was phoned in for the movie:  for a franchise which had decades for its clones to become more famous than the originals, just leaving the movie to rely on name-recognition and fan support to carry the weight of publicity really wasn't going to cut it.

It's good to know that there are some existing games and minis out there, but I've just gotta say, if Reaper makes more old-school Planetary Fantasy, Raygun Gothic, pulp Superhero (including that inspired by the likes of Tarzan, Sherlock Homes, Zorro, the Lone Ranger, Doc Savage, etc.), old-school "steampunk" (from the likes of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne) and other retro-SciFi as Bones figures, I'm definitely backing it!

Those were my first polyhedral dice as well - old enough that the D4 had a visible finger print from the sculptor.

They started out with nice crisp edges, but the plastic was fragile enough that over time, well - look at the above. ::):

My next set were from Armory - and were much, much better. Then Game Science and Lou Zocchi came out with much better dice, around 1980 or so.

Then Koplow, then Chessex.

Chessex remains my go-to dice. ::):

The Auld Grump -- generally Black and White, Black and Red, or White and Black... I like boring dice - except for my glow-in-the-dark ones, me preciousssss!

Oh yes, the self ablating dice that TSR decided to go with instead of spending the few cents extra per set for the better quality dice.

Which probably gave the dice makers a kick start as people [like me for example] had to replace their no longer random dice because they were going all spherical from wear.

I think someone said at the end of the Kickstarter yesterday that there were multiple Egyptian gods planned for this Kickstarter that never made it in, and they might appear in the next Kickstarter instead. The consensus among backers seemed to be that this might be a good thing, if the Reapers choose to use them as the foundation of an Egyptian-themed expansion instead.

Take that with a grain of salt, though:   you're getting that third-hand, and though the fans liked to imagine an Egyptian-themed expansion, Reaper doesn't seem to have brought that subject up themselves, and might not be interested in doing such a thing.

Well they do have a lot of metal sculpts for Warlord in the Necropolis and Nefsokar factions that would be very good in bones. Some have already made the transition. Would be lovely to see in Bones 6 or as a PM unlock for this one.

Actually, I think I remember Ron mentioning it at the end of the live stream yesterday.

Yep. At 1:17:20 he starts talking about things that did not make it that they want to "try" to include in the pledge manager. Egyptian gods is one of several mentioned. It is on Reaper's channel on YouTube, Bones 5 countdown party part 3.

Of course, if it is not in a Kickstarter update, it is not "official". An unfortunately necessary disclaimer due to the level of entitlement in modern culture.

The most I have ever spent taking Megan out was last December, when I took her to The Victorian Nutcracker, because she had never, ever seen The Nutcracker Suite.

Tickets came to $75, dinner came to about $50, drinks after... maybe another $25? Less than a day at Disneyworld, I think. ::):

The night I took her to Jack - a ballet about Jack the Ripper - would have been more expensive, but I won those tickets. (Jack was astonishingly good - there is a scene where they used red silk for the blood, he sweeps his arm and the red unfolds from her neck. The only 'gore' in the entire production.)

The Auld Grump

I don't know what it says about me, but of the two, I liked Jack better.

And being able to tell Claire that you were taking me to the ballet!

I know Megan has favorite dice - whether lucky or not - but for me... dice are random number generators, first and last, so I grab randomly from a huge pile of dice.

The Auld Grump

Your dice hate EVERYBODY!

But at least they hate everybody equally. They don't play favorites.

I think we need two multiple Dungeon Dweller sets, split one up for presents.

Still grumpy there were no stirges.

Hopefully Nolzur's adds some soon. I need a dozen or so.

From Reaper's store, metal search term "jackal".

Hopefully these are the "Anubis figures" Ron mentioned.

If you want something beefier, there are 6 Gnoll options in Bones, 11 in metal.

I would do the "Grrlll Power"° and "A Lifetime of Adventure"°° as two separate expansions.

1st - Girl Power

Where possible, this should be a set designed and sculpted by women - in part to encourage women sculptors, in part to avoid pitfalls - encourage the sculptors to speak up if they think a character is venturing too far into the hallowed halls of Klee-Shay.

Part One - Setup - 12-17 women PCs - a variety of classes, races, etc. Scour through the catalog, and see what hasn't got good representation here. Most are sensibly dressed, mid-tier characters - spellcasters wearing pants, etc. A handful - 3-4 maybe - of exceptions - characters in fancy dress clothes (with things like an obviously magical staff, or a pretty-but-practical dagger on belt, etc. to indicate 'this is a PC' instead of 'this is a high-style NPC'), a character in night clothes with a sword (obviously just woken... a midnight ambush!), things like that. All of the characters should look competent - but not all of them are Hollywood Adventurers - a zaftig sorceress in ball gown, an older warrior with a missing eye, things like that. Work against type and expectations where possible. Not every sorceress is young and beautiful, not every rogue is slender, not every fighter is attractive and whole of limb.

Part Two - Opposition - "I bet monstuhs lead Iiinteresting lives..." - 8-12 obviously female monsters - count is lower because here's where the big is. Let's give Succubi and Mariliths a pass for this section - there's several of each in Bonesium already - unless something different can be done with them. Same with the various Grecian elements (Oreads, Nymphs, etc.) But there are still lamia, Ogres (it would be nice to see a beautiful ogress - most of them are... not.) - all sorts of creatures that have sufficient dimorphism between genders to be "obviously female" that nonetheless are poorly - or not - represented on the tabletop.

Part Three - Denouement - this is where everything that didn't fit into the first two sections goes. Another 8-15 minis (depending on sizes) - again, all are women/female. Some of these can be a little silly, or more classically tropey, but avoiding the classic pitfalls is still important - if you're going to have a cheescakey mini, make sure they're still vital, active and competent looking - no fading wallflowers or helpless victims. If including  reprints from metals, or conversions to Bones Black, they go here.

2 - A lifetime of Adventure

This one is actually somewhat easier, and in other ways lots harder.

Part One - Setup - 16 28mm minis - 6 men, 6 women, 4 "non-gendered" (these can be androgynous, really non-human like insect-folks, dragonborn, or constructs, or something else). All of them are obviously starting out - "Tier 1" in D&D5e parlance. No fancy weapons, no plate armor, laden down with adventuring gear, practical clothing across the board - these are folks just heading out for their first few adventures. Where possible, look for non-Western European/Japanese clothing - let the concept artists go wild with Lithuanian peasant garb, or Ottoman armor, things like that.

Part Two - Experienced - same characters, but now they're Tier 2-3 - these are experienced, hardened adventurers in the prime of their career - they've upgraded their gear, acquired some mementos (not all of them positive...), and generally just look more confident, experienced, and powerful - maybe some of them have companions they didn't have before (a good way to balance out the books in terms of value).

Part Three - World-Shakers - Tier 4. Same characters - although some of them might barely be recognizable because of divine gifts (wings and such) or infernal blessings. These are powerful individuals - they hobnob with Halaster, take breakfast with the Blackstaff, and might sleep with Selune - and their minis reflect this. Jewels, crowns, obvious magic items, finery - some of them have given up wearing armor because they're too important - or too powerful and well-equipped - to bother, others still carrying some gear from back in earlier cuts. Some of the changes should be surprising - after all, Conan went from "a thief, a reaver, a slayer of men" to the king of one of the most powerful nations of Hyboria.

°Likely not actually called this...

°°ditto

I approve of this whole-heartedly.

This is great!  Every time I see more detailed images of anything in this KS it makes me want it or want it more!

Petrified hobbit is the way I’d go, but it would be great to have a version of the same guy in a different adventurer-type pose, to use as an NPC that is later found petrified and/or after being cured.

Thanks for posting these - that is an awesomely horrifying sculpt!  This would be great to use with the charnel pit encounter, as a bone golem raised by the Ghoul Queen from the pit full of bones!

So I have a problem.  Just went through, I want all 5 chromatics, the pirate ship, brinewind, fan favorites, the core set, the siege weapons, and a few other things.  That comes to about 600, I only did bones 4 beforehand and that hit 350. If I spend that much on miniatures, the adult half of my brain is going to torment me for months, even if I spread it out.  What's a guy to do?

It’s going to ship in 18 months, so one way to look at it is that you’re only spending $33 a month!  That doesn’t sound so bad, right?  It’s basically $1 a day.

I really love this mini encounter! @GHarris, you did some fantastic work on this one! I'm probably going to set up the halfling as a statue, with the egg still real. And I think that potion bottle will likely be a potion/oil of stone-to-flesh when I run this in a game.

That potion thing is a great idea.  Stealing that!  :poke:

I propose a “Girl Power” expansion next Bones.  Nothing but new, fresh, dynamic models of females of all the PC races and various classes.  Level 2 and 3 would then be monstrous humanoid and monster female models.

I love that idea.  Seconded (actually fourthed of fifthed I think)

Do ya'll remember when they said something about an Anubis-like miniature on Twitch?

I wonder if anything will become of that, post Kickstarter.

Yeaaaah, I was saddened it didn't make it.  Would have definitely been interesting - no, I don't know anything about such, I just really really REALLY want one.

I know I was asking for an Anubian Jackal around the same size as the Iron Golem (although 6-7" would have been awesome too), as well as a bust of such a creature.  That's what I was personally hoping for - things that aren't quite in the current range, AND would be rather expensive in metal nowadays due to their size - but perfect for Bones...
