Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

Recommended Posts

I tried asking a question on stream today but they didn’t answer.

Ron and Ed said that we will be able to check out multiple times in the PM, but when it came time for fulfillment all of our orders would be combined and ship together.

When the PM opens, let’s say I apply some of my pledge credit to buy a core set and pay for it and shipping. If I leave the rest of the credit there a while and buy more stuff things later, will the PM know how much extra to charge me for shipping it with my existing completed order?

About what specifically?

The shipping and logistics?

or

something to do with the Galleon?

I think it's how, in some ways, Ron comes across as using the Twitch audience as a sounding board for some ideas, in order to test reactions in an environment that isn't full of Reaper employees.  This can be a great way to get feedback on something, including an oversight the usual people might have missed (due to being tired, or whatnot), but it's also a double edged sword with a bladed hilt because then people might expect more, or seething new coming...  Even if the disclaimer of "this is an idea" or "only Kickstarter updates are official news/info"

If it's anything like last time, I do believe that's how it works.

Great - thanks!  There are some things I know I want but others I‘llc probably wait on until after we see more details, or I may add money to get more later.

Thanks. I didn't catch how to claim my prize, though. My son was talking over them...

I really wish they'd just put that into the Elemental Scions add-on, rather than Fan Favorites...

Wait this is into Fan Favorites?

For me that's good news, I didn't like the Scions ( only the Efreet is to my taste) but this guy is awesome and I do want the Fan Favorite set.

In this case I meant the ship. "We hope to..." lays out the best case scenario for the viewers and raised expectations. It's possible those expectations will be impossible to meet, possibly for reasons beyond their control. It reminds me of the situation with the hut and with the constantly postponed US fulfillment from Bones 4. (To be fair, some of this is Ed and Ron, not just Ron.) I get the impression they feel pressure to please and excite the live viewers, which I can surely understand, but it has lead to some over promising and under delivering.

I think it would be better practice to say, "We've heard a lot of great ideas from the community about color choices and ideas for the ship, but we have to find out what's feasible. We'll let you know when we have a firm understanding."

I agree, and preferably BEFORE the PM closes!

That way we can decide if we choose it.

I want one, but if it turns out to be translucent purple or something like that I'll pass and I would like to know that so I can spend that $100 on something else in the PM in such matters.

The thing is: the way you put it above is almost exactly how I took it and what my expectations are from what I heard in the Thursday Live stream.

Ron makes it sound a bit more exciting, ...he hypes it a bit, ...part of his job is to build enthusiasm for Reaper products. But I hear, notice, and realize there were qualifiers and if statements in the mix.

The way they are doing it though is operating with more transparency. They are letting the backers in on the thought process and the development discussions where a different company might not.

Happily Ron does not follow this formula to the letter:

This is more vague ^ less open ^ more opaque and not as informative. They are giving us some insight into the process and that is good; even if some ideas end up on the cutting room floor.

It seems wrong to put a fragment of a group into a different set. Were I one who wanted the Elemental Scions but didn't like the Fan Favorites, I'm missing out on a quarter of what should have been in that one set unless I want to spend an extra $50 or wait another few years for it to hit retail. Not great.

That said, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the Fan Favorites this time, unlike in Bones 4.

I understand that. For me, I only liked the Efreet, the other two are not my cup of tea.

I woulnd't mind if they included the new one in that set and made it $20, I could sell the other two and keep two then.

I've got the female Efreet, so I'm not that worried about getting the male one. I like the look of the "Earth Scion" most. Probably won't bother with that set anyway. Just seems like a bad look. I liked the female djinni from Bones 4, but I guess I'll wind up with a male one anyway now...

I had the impression, from things said at the time the Elemental Scions were revealed and from things said in yesterday's stream, that the new concept art *did not exist* at the time the Elemental Scions were revealed.

So they couldn't include this new one at the time, and because the new one was clearly added to the KS because of fans asking for it, it was added to the Fan Favorites expansion rather than increasing the price of the Elemental Scions.

Again, this is the impression I had. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me.

I had a similar impression, but it seemed odd that they didn't think to have all four elementals in a single set. They had a few other expansions and add-ons that were lacking art at the time of reveal, but still had them included. It seems like an oversight not to have intended to have all four elements covered in one add-on.

Again, I'm not mad that they're putting an extra mini into an expansion I'm going to buy. It just seems a little illogical that it's going there, rather than in the set where it would make the most sense.

It would have made more sense, I agree.

I still don't get how Krampus is in the Core and Santa is in Chronoscope, those two are basically useless for almost anything, I figure that could have been a small $4 0r $6 dollar addon.

Sometimes things are different then expected, overall it's a great KS, there were a lot of new things I liked.

Just throwing this out there for anyone interested (yes I did back and no, I don't know them)...
I did back their last KS as well and was happy with the results. They did a great in keeping people up to date and got all of the files out quickly.

The figures look "funny" in the pictures due to them using the print-ready 3D files. I think that at the smaller scales especially, they are enhanced just enough so they will keep their detail and make them easier to paint IMO.

Anyway take a look if you are interested!

Just a fun little surprise I happened across earlier.  No pictures of the dice and it's ending today, but some really nice ones on their store and I've friends who own some so I thought I'd give it a go.
