Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

I still haven't added all that I want to. I've been less excited about this KS than earlier ones and yet my wish list is still in the hundreds of dollars. I'm starting to stare at the pics again and see if there's anything I want to trim from the list. I haven't bought any toys for about a year if you don't count another KS last summer that won't deliver for awhile and I'm starting to feel the itch to buy.

I already have two of the ships paid for, and I originally thought I might use one as an ebay sale to help pay for the first one. Now, I don't know if I want to keep both of them and paint them both up! I could make one a living pirate ship, and the other an undead pirate ship :)

I think I will add the ship. I been wanting to paint some pirates and have a display area. I wonder if it will be possible to drill small holes for tiny magnets without compromising too much of the material.

Ideas:

  • Stranded ship which became a Town/building
  • Undead Version
  • Flying Version
  • Sunken Version
  • Pirate Version
  • Navy/Merchant version
  • Cut it all up for wreckage ( HERESY!!!)
  • Ship with wheels/legs
  • Ark of the Ages carried by monsters/ undead/slaves as a sort of mount for a supreme sorcerer/necromancer/liche lord/tomb queen?

I'd wager it'd be pretty easy, based on my experiences using magnets. The stiffer plastic used for the Mausoleum was really easy to drill through, and some small, neodymium  magnets would be pretty inconspicuous, overall.

Is the glow in the dark ship still on the table?

If it is, could the Reaper figurehead be glow in the dark too?

The wench doesn't work as well for a ghost ship.

We kind of want three.

Ghost, pirate, and naval.

That might work better with the Stygian Barge. ::):

From Reaper Live, it seems they are still looking into the glow in the dark. I would assume that the base figurehead that came with the clear ship would be clear as well, although having the option to have a clear/glow in the dark alternative option for the other figureheads would be helpful.

I LOVE that ship, but I don't know where the heck I'd put it that would keep it safe from the kids.

This was actually my first thought for this! I wanted to carve it up and turn it into terrain, but I think that would be an even bigger undertaking than assembling it the right way.

The new pictures of Kalanzar made me want to compare it to official D&D Huge Red Dragon miniatures.  Though I don't have the prepainted Huge Red Dragon from the Giants of Legend set, I do have the Wrath of Ashardalon game, which provided an unpainted copy made from the exact same mold.  Note that this D&D mini is from the old line of miniatures, which tended to have a larger scale than the more recent dragons (WizKids started making the D&D miniatures in 2014, and the scale nearly universally runs smaller than the older mini's, especially when it comes to the dragons.  So, Kalanzar will absolutely be usable as "Gargantuan" for D&D purposes.

I didn't hit the scaling exactly perfectly when I photoshopped these images together.  I was aiming for scaling the D&D image so that the 3" grid lines (at the appropriate depth) were scaled to match the base of Kalanzar (taking their word that it is exactly 3").  Unfortunately, I ended up almost exactly matching the red base of the D&D mini to Kalanzar's base; the D&D miniature's base is slightly undersized from the 3" it is supposed to be.  All that to say, the red plastic D&D mini should actually be a hair smaller in these composite images, and thus Kalanzar is actually larger than he "appears" to be.
