funded Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

After getting a bunch of duplicates in Bones 4 (3x monsters, 3x dire, 7x statues, 2x core, 2x darkreach, I eventually gave away an unopened Core set that I found I really didn't need. The only duplicate I'm getting this time is the Armory, because I want two suits of armor, and $5 now and getting duplicates of the other things that will still be useful is more worthwhile than waiting to pay $3-4 for the suit of armor alone.

 

.... I may also get a duplicate of the boat if my Pathfinder group commits to playing Skulls and Shackles post-Covid, though I still need to read the campaign to see if a second boat would be worthwhile.

I do this often. I got a second set of villagers in Bones 4, and swapped heads and/or arms on the second set so that no two are identical. I got 2 sets of the dire critters, and gave one set drastically different bases and/or paint schemes, as well as with the wyverns, beast skeletons, griffons, etc. I hate identical duplicates, because it's easier to track multiple models in an encounter if there's some way to differentiate them.

I've tried to have subtle coloration differences in the dire alligators and that mostly didn't work out, the differences were not pronounced enough. For the Dire Boars I went with four different skin tone triads to have visually different boars (and partially to test the triads out and have a reference for them in the future ).

Well, there are multiple types of gem dragons, so that's that, and I've played through adventures where multiple seige weapons would have been nice to have instead of improvised items. I also think that you can always use more townsfolk. Mostly I'm tired of painting adventurers and monsters, but still enjoy painting terrain, so I went heavier on terrain this time.

The duplicate gem dragon was a mistake, but I'm sure I'll find a use for the second. The sad thing is I could easily spend $300 more if I let myself

I think my only addition will be kid heroes and henchwomen. Have t check led in a  while but money is tight and I forgot kids the first time.

Put in a couple orders this month.  It's funny how priorities change as the end of the PM looms closer... "I'd rather have this thing I wasn't planning to buy, rather than another of this thing I was planning to buy three of..."

As you can see, I am still doubling- and tripling-up on lots of stuff.  Brinewind extras, for example, will allow me to easily make a small merchant caravan, and have several small ships involved in a harbor battle, and stock a warehouse encounter with lots of 3D terrain to provide elevation and cover, etc.  Multiple sets of the Ravenhome ruins will work well as scatter terrain for one large castle ruin, etc.

 

Ron was showing a few items on camera during last night's twitch stream.  I assume these will be given a better showcasing during today's Bones 5 Live update show, as well as the KS update they'll send out later today (this month is basically 2nd and 4th Fridays, due to Independence Day, and it works out well, because there are 5 Fridays in July, so two weeks from now we'll get another update on August 7th).

According to tonight’s update, this is a new addition to the Dungeon Dwellers Set. 
 

“Inspired by the sorcerer from the old Heritage game "Crypt of the Sorcerer", here's the new evil sorcerer sculpt, Erebus Nalas. This model was not in the Kickstarter, but we're adding him to the Dungeon Dweller box as a bonus mini.“

It's only new insofar as it was added after the KS ended. It was noticed and posted about here when they updated the PM to show pics in the Dungeon Dwellers expansion. It was included in the pics at that time (roughly 2 months ago?)

 

Last night on Reaper Live Ron said there was going to be a Bones 5 Live stream today, but after the Reaperland episode ended, they never returned for the stream I was expecting at 4:00.  I gave up and turned it off after a half hour or so. I did miss the very end of Reaperland; maybe they announced something about it and I missed it. 

 

Regardless, there were several good pics in the KS update.

Doh! I must have missed that discussion. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up if you missed a few days on his thread. 
 

So it was hard to tell from the wording in the update, but did they imply that a Mermaid Queen is going to be added to Dark Depths; or just that they plan to do a Mermaid Queen eventually to be sold separately...?

Thought I was all done with this, but I'm now seriously re-considering the Dungeon Dwellers expansion.

 

But, if I get that then I also need the monsters from the Core Set to get the missing troll, plus those Dragon Fighters are looking nifty.

 

However, I've already set aside a lot of next months hobby budget (I need that Yankee Piranha gang!).
