I have just noticed Krateryx, the shadow dragon, is going to be translucent purple, not smoky or clear. I think that is going to upend my painting plans. Maybe if it was a very faint purple, but from what I have seen of the other purple translucents it is pretty overwhelming. Has anyone thought about how they will approach it short of priming the whole thing?

My plans for Krateryx is try to hollow him out and run an led up into his head, then paint him normally except for his eyes and the inside of his mouth so that they'll glow.

i rarely keep translucents as translucent, so for me it makes little difference since he'd be painted over almost entirely anyway other than maybe thin areas of his wing membranes

I was planning to keep him largely translucent grey, and just dry-brush highlights.

Guess I’ll have to get that clear dragon from the previous kickstarters, and make my own with Tamiya Clears. I was planning to do that with the gem dragon anyway. I’ll just have to add smoke grey to my Tamiya clears order.

I honestly really wish they'd just make every translucent colorless.

That would be nice, then we can make them whatever color we want

The reason I rarely keep them translucent is because the colored see through plastic is hard for me to paint over, because it is colored. I like clear much better

The gem dragon I intend to preserve the translucency, so hopefully it stays clear....

Yeah, wizkids dose it so I don't see why other can't. Adding colour just takes away from the effect, especially since  they always add too much. A tint would be fine, but the coloured translucent bones are not just tinted, they are packed full of the colour.

Then again I don't keep translucent minis as translucent.

Wow, I’m not happy about that. They’d said all along that he was going to be smokey grey. And grey tamiya ... whatever paints ... is the one color that can’t overwhelm the purple.

Translucent grey was going to be perfect. Grumble, grumble...

I was planning on doing a transitional solid to translucent paint job on that dragon, so I'm not entirely happy with the change to purple either. Especially since I've already ordered 2 of them, one for normal painting and one for the fancy transitional one

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt though. Maybe the translucent grey material wasn't up to scratch, I don't see them arbitrarily changing it without good reason.

That's my mistake. It is going to be smoky grey. Apologies for any confusion. I've corrected it in the Pledge Manager.

There are a LOT of moving parts to keep track of.

I see Ron already clarified it was a mistake, but in my experience the purple is one of the easier colors to "change" using Tamiya Clears.
