ya i wish reaper would follow the wizkids/gf9 scaling since wizkids/gf9 have the official license. so why not have giants match that size.  many people who use reaper minis are using them for D&D afterall :D

I actually think the WizKids and especially GF9 Hill/Stone/Fire/Frost Giants are too big and prefer Reaper's redone Giants.  The first set of 5E Giants from WizKids were closer to the Bones revised Giants.

Cloud and Storm Giants can go crazy, though.

i think 5e raised the sizes of some giants, hence the scale increase (compared to 2e and 3e).

i just find it awkward cause GF9 and Wizkids both have official D&D licenses and keep their stuff in scale to each other, so ideally anyone making models that should be companion pieces to those, essentially, should do the same. just me though :D

that said, the official wizkids basilisk is pathetic. its the size of a GW/Reaper familiar miniature basically, and since its like medium. technically it fits on a medium base so that tiny size is still correct. so brutally bad imho.  use a reaper one or if you want a more epic one. the forgeworld or mierce ones.

First few WizKids Giants in 5E were Huge but significantly smaller.  The Storm King's Thunder set was the first Huges set and upped them a bit.

I would not say WizKids and GF9 keep a remotely similar scale to their Giants.  I only have the Hill Giant, Storm Giant, and one Frost Giant from GF9 and they are even bigger than the WizKids versions...but skinnier.

The storm giants are the same height  approx taking into account the pose: gf9 has legs spread out so not as tall as if he was standing straight.  I recall someone put a pic of the wizkids frost and gf9 frost and there were almost identical. A few mm is fine . an inch or so shorter is drastically noticeable...

This reminds me of the pic I posted of "The Mountain" & his father & grand-father.

This one?

The photo that's usually billed as him with his brothers is apparently actually him and other athletes he used to work with.

On a Bones V note...I'm looking forward to the Undead Giant!  With the WizKids sets getting more Undead Giants from the varying tribes, I'm hoping Bones VI takes that as inspiration.

Yup.

Tall genes in that family.

There are other games, and not everyone plays 5e...

More and more I'm looking forward to the sci-fi stuff this time around. It's a good selection, though I do agree that they might have worked better as 3 encounters/mini-sets rather than a full expansion.

yeah... its me. it bothers me.

some of that may be my warhammer background as well.  scale there is very important as it directly affects rules/ruling. even some conversions are not allowed (from a tournament POV, and i did play tournaments).

its great you want to resculpt your giant kneeling down to look like he/she's doing X, but guess what, if needed, the line of sight no longer gives it sight. sorry!

:D

And that's why more tactical type games tend to use standard silhouette sizes - you can customize your bases, you can do all sorts of creative things... But a standard human is still human height, whether it's kneeling, leaning down, or sculpted as lying down. (well, assuming it isn't prone, which has its own status and height)

As for Bones V, it's looking more and more like just a handful of dragons for my order, but that's life, the hand I was dealt, and other priorities.

Ron showed off the final version of Kaiju Chaos in ReaperLive last night.  It was hard to get a non-blurry picture of it because he was moving it around so much and never held it up close to the camera, but here is a screen capture.

That Khaji looks amazing, but somehow I keep getting torn to Ron's dangerous make-up on that pic! He creeps the hell out of me there, haha

In Warhammer, at least early 2000s to 2008 or so rule was bend down and look at the table via the models eyes so in tournaments rules lawyers would hold you to that .

40k had it worse. Ppl would modify their land raiders to have all lascannons on top, then try to say both guns fire at the full front arc hehe (its one set per side so they can shoot straight or on their side, not the full arc)
