Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

Would it be worth while to have our EU and GB folks starting a separate thread for VAT and such?  I get that it's a point of frustration, but i think having a directive chat around this that references all the points better would be better served.  That way the dialogue is contained and easier to track and address for Reaper team.

Keeping this as the enthusiasm thread would be awesome.  It is clear there are some areas Reaper needs to address with our friends across the pond, but it is devolving this thread by beating the point with no solution being posted.

It’s an enthusiasm and commentary thread. Part of it is expressing disappointment, which we have all, at one point or another, felt. There really isn’t a solution, because reaper knows the concerns of the community, and has known them for a while.

I dunno, to me your comment feels very dismissive of those concerns

I fully recognize the frustrations. I am trying to  figure a more productive forum for these concerns.  I can empathize, but not being a member who is affected, it is difficult to realize the full extent.  With this post making it to the 801st page of this thread, it may be difficult to sort through much of the specific examples our EU and GB friends are expressing.

I also see the posts taking a serious plunge negatively. My goal was offer a means that could lead to a productive conversation with those who can impact the outcome.  That way not everyone gets tied up in a situation that only affects some.  I think it's a valid concern, but i stand my suggestion of another thread to vent and come up with a solution for VAT. Maybe something like "Bones 5 VAT thread"?

I appreciate the feedback @redambrosia, but i am not dismissing their issue.

This is only my second Bones Kickstarter, but the same thing happened last time with Argent. It happens because after you've implied that you're going to do something, get thousands of peoples money based on the implication, then shrug it off the failure of that thing after the fact, well people are going to be upset. I think that it would do Reaper a lot of good to read the cluster of negative comments from the previous Kickstarters every time they're about to start a new one.

I'm a real fan of Reaper, but I also feel that sincere critique should be allowed.

Sure, everyone would love to hear cheers and feel good, but this is a real bummer for some of us.

You know, those few people from the other side of the Big Pond.

Sometimes I feel that the love whe have for Reaper isn't mutual..

Anyway..I will be my cheerful self on this Forum but don't expect me to back B-VI.

I have heard...it will be fine.. too many times now.

So sorry if our whining upsets you, but it is hard earned money down the drain where it could have been avoided.

My apologies for the rant,

Can someone explain how VAT for Bones 4 worked vs Bones 5?  Was the VAT simply paid to Reaper in the PM since they had a VAT license, but this time European VAT wasn't because they didnt have an EU VAT license?

Is there any updates (since the last update) on the UK fulfilment / shipping?

Not as of Reaper Live on Thursday night

Yes. We paid 20% extra in the PM to get our packages imported into the UK. From the UK they were shipped to the European countries (not just EU countries, some like Switzerland aren't in). Not sure how it worked out for the "not-EU" countries, but for me it worked out fine. We got lucky the Brexit got delayed back then though, no idea what would have happend with us paying UK VAT and the UK then leaving.

This time we only payed the normal rates, so ofc at some point VAT has to be added. Death and taxes and all that.

Yes, absolutely.  We only ask that it remain polite.

I agree completely about that one.

I've explained why I'm disappointed, also explained that I still love Reaper and their products, I will just no longer back a KS this way.

There is always retail and there are a few European Sellers where I will exactly know what to expect.

It's just the lack of communication and the feeling that EU customers aren't really important, maybe there aren't enough of us to be bothered.

When asking about it during Bones IV, and again at the start of Bones V, I'd rather had heard negative news and be able to calculate how far to go instead of...it will be fine..

That's all there's to it.

Be clear about stuff, I sincerely think Reaper needs a PR guy to handle stuff like this.

Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to delay the VAT payment, or does the VAT being later cause your minis to arrive late?

I ask bc I'm always of the mindset of holding off paying taxes for a long as possible.

Or do EU governments give a discount on taxes if you pay them upfront?

Prepaying your taxes for international orders has some benefits:

- You don't have to pay import duty (at least we didn't with Bones IV); added to VAT, that's another X% based on the category of item (e. g. toy, clothing, electronics ....)

- Personally I prefer seeing what I'll have to pay for an item in total when I buy it. We have our taxes on the price tags everywhere as well.

- The customs office won't stop your package to process it. Can be just a few days, but especially with the Brexit this can take a few weeks at the moment, since the officers are backlogged. If ´the sender doesn't correctly attach the bill on the outside of the package, or this bill gets torn of in transport, or the sender makes a mistake in writing that bill (e. g. not declaring shipping cost) it'll delay things further. In Germany, for example, they might decide they want to open your package to check what's inside, but they can't do that without you being present, so you have to go there during opening hours and explain yourself to the officer. Other countries might have different processes. The customs officer might decide that this package seems suspicious even if the paperwork is clearly visible, e. g. because he doesn't understand someone ordering multiple hundreds of dollars worth of plastic toys in a giant box and might think I'm planning on reselling them.

- The package carrier will charge you extra. They'll have to pay VAT and duties upfront to be able to "free" your package and will charge you for that service. That service is opt-out, so if you'd rather pick the package up yourself, better take care of that beforehand. They'll also want money in cash at your doorstep, and won't be able to give you change (at least that's what always happend to me). Ofc there's no way to see what they'll charge beforehand, e. g. on the tracking site. Lots of fun.

So yeah, in closing, lots of hassle with lots of people, delays, surprise fees, all the fun ^^

In the interests of stirring enthusiasm I was thinking of sharing pics of the Bones 5 Core Set that I won on Reaper Live last week. It's due to arrive Wed.  What do you want to see first?  What should I paint first?  Will the box be big enough for the cat? Which cat will try it first?

I for one would be heartily disappointed if you didn't post a cat-box picture!

If you don't have a preference, then I suggest just tipping the contents of the box into a bigger box, swirling the contents around, sticking your hand in and grabbing a random mini.

(Then again, I'd go for the Catobeplas because I love that mini sooo much )
