funded Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

The KS comments are full of angry complaints about VAT.  The facebook page is flooded with Bones 6 memes.  And I'm just here waiting for my Bones V.

Think the wraiths just moved up on my paint-first list.  Started a campaign where they'd make great recurring antagonists.  Murkilor may just be the Big-Bad.

Though I must admit, the previews for a "future project" that were shown in Reaper Live definitely have me a little excited for a future project.  But we can save that discussion until there's a new "Enthusiasm" thread.

I was planning to paint up the Fan Favorites Axolotl-folk as Firenewts. Then they went and showed those “future project” Firenewts...

I had purchased a set of AoS Skinks to paint as firenewts.  Will likely still paint them that way since i have them already.

But i'm also excited for all of the Bones V stuff on their way.  Can't wait to look at them all then stick them back in boxes until Bones VI happens and it repeats...

I think I'm going to paint one of the expansions first, or one of the terrain sets. Im toying with getting an airbrush just to get done priming done quickly.

Is there a place to collect and look up the "future project" things from streams and such? If not, maybe a preview thread is in order (there was one for Bones V)

I'd love to see them, but not enough to go through hours of Reaper Live ^^

That is exactly what I just did. I got everything set up yesterday. Now, priming and base coating will be much easier

The "keep Bones in the box" has been more and more true now that my gaming has to be online :(

I might be able to look at, double check, and assemble everything in my box in one go... 

 

Although I suspect the dragons will take longer than that...

In all honesty, as much as I like Bones:

- I have A LOT of them now (20+)

- I have "graduated" to metal and resin miniatures for certain uses and even some boardgame miniatures rival Bones when it comes to detail

- Reaper has not communicated well, other companies provide clearer information in time, so concerning quality and information (and shipping costs and customs) competition is fierce.

 

So I doubt I'll be backing Bones 6 if Reaper cannot offer an EU hub that works.

Hopefully that’ll end soon for you. With my groups getting vaccinated i have found more motivation to paint more in anticipation of the return to the physical table.

for me, bones is the only way to get large, affordable miniatures that aren't going to break on their way to me

 

i don't' like resin, because i always end up getting one damaged when it arrives, so i'm tired of wasting money on them

i don't like 3D printing STL files, because i don't' have a 3D printer that can actually print them at any decent quality to make it worth spending money on the STLs

 

i don't like metal because  it's heavy, fragile, and just annoying to handle or store

 

so at least for me, bones is really the only thing i enjoy painting and working with, especially when it comes to the really large miniatures

 

now with that said, i definitely agree Reaper's communication can be better, and i acknowledged i don't have international shipping / VAT to worry about, so my situation is a bit less uncertain and stressful than it is for non-USA backers

I agree ... If I were after big miniatures, I could see the advantages of Bones. But ... for whatever reason, I am not that much a friend of dragons or other big creatures. I like painting human to ettin-sized creatures. I also agree that resin and metal have their drawbacks (just recently I had two metal swords break off ... which had never happened to me before), but for small miniatures, Bones is often quite weak when it comes to sharpness of detail.

Admittedly my time painting minis, at least since I picked it back up in June last year, is far from the experience many of you have.  I started on Wiz Kids and some of the Nozlur's stuff.  It felt like getting all the mold lines off of them was difficult.  Then I was testing a few metal minis that I kept having paint adhesion problems.  Then I discovered Bones and it was like, 'oh hello!'  It took me a bit to figure out how to trim the mold lines, as each company has its own little nuance for how to go about getting good results, but Bones were less expensive, easier to bend back into place if it got warped in packaging, and they were easier to cut away to base.  

 

I mean, each company has their own ups and downs, but ideally Reaper has been a great way for me to try MANY different sizes, types, and forms of minis without killing my pocket.  

 

With this being my first Bones KS, I'm stoked.  Like seriously stoked!  The amount of bang for buck I'm getting on this comparatively to any other company I can buy from is insane.  I even joined in late on this KS and still feel it's worth every cent.  (Doesn't hurt that the stimulus basically went straight to Reaper...)  

 

What I saw immediately as a great opportunity, cost aside, was a way to get a BUNCH of models of varying types that would challenge my painting.  It's easy to fall into a type of model one likes to paint, so getting a collection of them that are vastly different is a fun chance to try something new and on a very big scale.  I'm not a gamer or anyone who uses any of these minis.  I generally paint them for holidays and give them away to my friends' kids who love them.  So, I can't really say I have any practical use with minis since it's just a way for me to burn time and have a hobby.  However, the Bones KS is something that I can't find with any other company.  The value is tremendous for price per mini.  And obviously the community here kicks butt.  

 

As I said, I'm new to this, but I got bought in sometime around August to Bones.  To be this close to delivery is killing me.  WHEN IS SHIPPING GOING TO START!??  I'm going out of my mind waiting for these gigantic boxes people like @Ratmaster2000 have told me about.  I'm wave 23, so I'll be at the back end of this shipment party, but I'm big-time ready to see tracking.
