I'm wondering about Canadian PO box shipments. It is possible to ship via USPS or Canada Post for those of us who only have rural addresses? Getting the courier to deliver can be a nightmare, depending on who it is. 

 

I can now confirm that the system should flag P.O. Boxes and those will be sent via USPS instead of UPS.

@Cyradis  You're probably going to check in on this thread anyway, but to be 100% sure you don't miss it then the chart Jon provided supercedes the information I gave and everyone should use those values to calculate expected fees and taxes owed.  That information was not available to me earlier, and I will now make corrections to those previous posts with links to the posted info so (hopefully) everybody gets caught up to current.  So it does look like you will be 12%.

IIRC, somewhere between B1 & B2, Ed shared a pie charge of generally how the money from B1 was spent, and one of the slices was for exactly that.

Thanks for the heads up, Bugs. 12% will stink, but eh, we weren't guaranteed no shipping fees signing up for this. A bit of a buzzkill on the big box of loot though. More satisfying to not be reminded about just how much you spent over a year ago :)

I detest UPS because of their robbery, I mean fees for cross border shipping. I've been charged as much in fees as the item+shipping cost. Plus because we live in a small town they ship things to Regina and then the UPS Depot there puts them in the mail for delivery. So I pick it up at the local post office anyhow. Glad to hear it will be USPS because it's always been the most reliable and cheapest for me.

.... Not going to lie, this change with the Canadian shipping leaves me feeling kinda iffy on all this. I checked multiple places and with multiple people about the Canada-friendly shipping before backing and okay - things changed, I get that. But I feel like I'd have liked to have known that like.... before the PM closed, ideally? I had a big order in the end and this looks like it's going to be a $45 (wasn't this quoted as being $5 yesterday?) fee plus 12%... That's over $150 in import fees I'd have liked to have had a heads up on prior to a week before fulfillment starts. 😕

this is what my Pledge manager said:

Shipping:35.67 (for buffalo, NY) but i have since changed my address for shipping to Markham (near Toronto, Canada).

Pledge Applied:-650.00

Total:$3.66 <-- left over

Paid11-12-2019

 

so that 35.67 goes to cover UPS costs?   Also that canadian example screenshot in the other thread doesnt seem to add up (the examples).

 

If im reading it right for my stuff above:

 

UPS extra charge: $15 due to (price being between 150.01-750.00)

Duty (13% Ontario): 80.34

 

so 95.34 total.

 

is that right? so where is that $35.67 going...

The 35 are shipping (paying for the core business of moving your package to you).

The 13% are taxes (the same as if you'd buy the product in your own country and pay sales tax I guess. Duties would be added on to that depending on item type to protect the local economy, but this doesn't apply for many borders and apparently not here)

The 15$ are the service charge to deal with your taxes at the border and prepay them (or else they couldn't continue carrying the package and you'd have to pick it up at some office personally). The 15$ or even 45$ are a bit expensive though, I'd agree.

Sure hope it's being shipped Expedited at minimum then, because otherwise fees get painful fast.  Would be nice to get UPS shipping as a choice for regular orders too...

Well, I was excited about the idea of PM reopening, but I'd rather not get hit by brokerage fees twice.  I'll have to think. 

 

Yeah, in my case it's relatively low, but given how there was so much talk and inquiries about shipping (especially after the surprise Europeans were given), I'm wondering if this will be my only Reaper Kickstarter.  If I had gone in a lot heavier, I'd be rather annoyed at the prospect of a hefty bill to pay, and being informed of this not even a week before fulfilment is expected to begin.

Yeah, FedEx is weird.  Let's just say I have a three page rant about their payment processing.  Let's autodial someone in an age of Call Control (aka anti-auto dialer things you can enable with several mobile phone carriers) and y'know, most not answering if it's someone they don't know (especially at 18:30),and then best of all, I can't even pay through the online portal, I literally have to either give the driver my card, or talk to a customer care rep.  Oh, and just having the confirmation number isn't enough, you need to also have an actual email to prove you paid (thankfully my driver just wrote the number down, and kept moving after) 

 

UPS?  There's a notice in your email, on the tracking itself, AND in your MyUPS, and it takes thirty seconds to pay.  Okay, maybe a minute to a minute and a half.  If they're able, they also send you the bill a day in advance, so clearance isn't affected...

friend had one of those rental boxes in niagara on the usa side where we'd send packages to and then he'd drive over every 2 months to bring them all here but due to covid he stopped paying for it, so i had to switch package to canada :D

But apparently dpd (one of the carriers according to the FAQ) imports stuff to Germany from the UK via the Netherlands and then it's 21% instead of 19%. But it should be under 200 Euros for your order anyway.

Yeah, had a friend here doing that too. And sometimes my mom in Oregon would get packages for me, on the assumption that she'd drive up to visit in "near future". But border closed and Oregon went on mega-fire a few too many times, so she moved to New Jersey. No more spur of the moment weekend visits, for two reasons :(
