Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

So I really haven't gone through my stuff, just been busy over the weekend. I did find the 2 minis I wanted to use out of everything I got & I really like those. I did find Murkillor the Wraith King & I'll be tossing that one into a BoGW at a future date. The resin one has allot clearer detail on it vs the Bones material. What I have been through, I really wish the Spikeshell Antipaladin wasn't attached to it's base. As I wanted to use this guy as a tortle, it's too big + it's on a lipped base (I'm not a fan of that style). I'll keep this guy, but I doubt I'll ever use it in a game...

More to come!

- 'black' dragon (lots of ill fitting pieces, many gaps to fill )

I gave pretty much all the dragons boiling water baths this time to improve the fit of the pieces.  The terrain from the encounter sets also needed the hot water.  I did a lot more boiling this time than in previous Bones kickstarters, but that might be because there's just more assembly.  In any case, I would recommend being prepared to boil up a lot of these models.

The hair, fur, and scales, seems more like a feature of the sculptor than the medium right now. The sculptors who are more comfortable with digital I think are getting more detail into the fur and scales, and are more consistent. Digital sculpting doesn't prevent some really amazing detail on those necessarily.

I agree that it's different sculpting approaches.  I don't want to name names here, seems rude.  But some sculptors have an approach to digitally sculpting fur that I like more than some others.  I suppose that there are arguments for smoother fur textures.  That way you can do more to add texture with shading techniques during painting.   But if you don't do that, the model looks flat.

Also  - I know about mould release and washing, but it that a factor when assembling with CA glue?

FWIW, I've never had a problem with gluing unwashed Bones models.  I didn't wash any of these before gluing them, and had no problems getting the glue to stick.

I do go back and wash thoroughly before painting.  I have had plenty of problems getting paint to stick.  Don't use spray primers though.  I have had the experience with tacky models, it's not worth it. 😛

I'm still waiting as well. No shipping note yet!

I hereby initiate you into the "No notice" club. It's an exclusive membership that's getting smaller by the day (apparently!). Still nothing here, but I got a notification that my Signum Kickstarter rewards were on their way from Ukraine. I wonder which will arrive first?

Still waiting for mine too Kuroneko, it is frustrating.

Even worse I've had a whole slew of phishing emails saying; "You owe customs duty on a parcel, just send us your bank dtails..."

Argh, that's got to be annoying. At least with the phone calls you can have fun stringing them along! Welcome to the club!

The update saying UK/EU fulfillment is just 25% complete is just a bit of a bummer. They've been on it for 2 weeks now and are, apperantly, also not going by (strictly) wave order, as many wave 1 backers still wait while later waves have their stuff.

Well you seem a nice sort with a suitably adorable cat avatar, so you can be in the No Email club too. @Cicciopiuisn't allowed anymore, even if his order is going to take a few months to get to his island. Rules are rules ::P:

Got everything inventoried and assembled, only missing the head of the (not a warforged) construct mage. Got that emailed to Reaper and know there will be a wait as they process everything coming in.

The Dragons are incredible and I can't wait to get paint on them. The Brinewind Inn Keeper and Brinewind Orc doxie are amazing models and I really love the body shapes and details. As a dad of three young ladies, having representation of so many body types, races, classes, and looks means a lot. I feel Reaper and the sculptors are doing great on this front overall, so thank you.

Getting the ship together and already mapped out the gun deck to have cannon ball racks and the likes. Wanting to do magnetized rigging for display and removable for gaming as needed.

Overall the quality is solid with only the minor issues here and there which are the same as others in the thread, but definitely seeing the detail and improvements between the kickstarters getting better. I even don't mind having to hot water reshape things knowing they had to sit in the heat of sitting containers during the logistical nightmare scape of the past year.

Finished the rest of my inventory, meaning the pirate ship and the new MSP paints.

The ship is complete and unwarped and everything fits well enough. I forgot that the main body was made of the Bones material and expected the firmer plastic, so handling the softer material felt really weird. I was surprised at how powerful the mast magnets were, enough to lift the ship parts.

As for the paints, the Carnival Purple really reminds me of raisin flavored candy, and the Rich Indigo is strangely alluring.

Has anyone heard back outside of the auto-reply for missing items yet?

Not being impatient, just trying to gauge if I need to resubmit.

Yeah, I don't think it is quite an auto-reply as much as a copy-paste. Someone is there. Had brief email back and forth about missing items.

Inventory done as well, but it was rather quick. I limited myself but kinda didn't get what I ordered.

Besides the few tidbits here and there, I also ordered a paint set, the Learn to Paint kit and Ravenhome. Instead of receiving these, I got a Core Set (!!). E-mail sent to Reaper, set standing by in case I need to send it back.

Why, thank you! 😂

And I continue to be in the "No Notice" club, despite being the eighth person to back the KS. 😂

Hehe, thanks! And happy you're getting yours! 😄

I'm patient, though. It'll get here when it gets here. 😊
