This little gnome, male or female?

Recommended Posts

So here’s my question, got this little person with my last Reaper order, and I just wonder a little.  The miniature is a little bit heavier set or “thicker” than the concept art, and I’m just wondering, does everything think this is a gnome lass and not a young gnome beardless gentleman?

She’s kind of similar to the other set that has a very obvious gnomish lady:

Just wondering if everybody else has painted this little hooded gnome as a lass?

I have the figure on my painting desk right now and I did not see it as female. But then I'm not sure exactly how I would know.

I asked, but the figure was remarkably unwilling to answer. ::D:

You need to paint an open mouth to get an answer...-_-

Seriously, could you not paint it any gender you (or it) chooses?

Very tight lipped sometimes these minis, very little help.  I see her face kind of similar as the other female gnome but she has no curves whatsoever to her body whereas the other little lady had a bit of bosom going for her. But on the other hand the hooded figure is kind of swaddled in the cloak and armor so maybe it’s not a surprise these details aren’t evident.

The face looks more male than female to me (heavy brows more than anything else), and a bit African in facial features as well (though the hair is more European). It's a fun figure that I'm looking forward to putting up on Show Off when I finish it.

Yes of course and I’m pretty sure I’ll paint her as a gal, but I’m just wondering what the sculptor had in mind after seeing the concept art. I think had I not seen the drawing of the original concept I’d assume he was a guy.

The concept art looks slightly female, at least in the face, but the actual mini reads male to me.  But with gnomes, as with dwarves, it can sometimes be hard to tell.  ;-)
