Citrine
So I have started prepping this baby for painting: And I am disappointed with the quality, the mold lines are sooo bad, and the vents are right in the middle of details, and some places the vents were cut in such a way that adjacent details were lost. Just a few of the many pieces, black knife for scale. Nasty mold line, with my first pass at it Vents in detail, there were worse ones that I already mostly fixed on another piece: For as much as this thing cost, even at Kickstarter pricing, I guess I expected better. Inarah
I went in on that, but not for the big dragon. I started on the baby axolotls. I might as well be carving them myself, there is so much flash and they are soo tiny and delicate I'm afraid of ruining them. Will be watching to see how your project comes along. It's an amazing concept sculpt.
Kuroneko
Ah heck, the renders were so nice too Your third picture looks as if there's been some mold shift too. Hopefully you can fix it and give it the paint job it deserves.
Glitterwolf
I have everything instead of that one. Currently working on the Tlemiahuatl and that one looked great, a little flash but nothing serious. Looking forward to see how this turns out.
Talae
I was so close to buying this mini. I even emailed the creator at one point after the campaign and never got a response. Looks like it might be a good think to wait for them to up their game. Either way I am excited to see what you do with it.
Citrine
We got a new refrigerator recently and had to move a cabinet out of the way, and the content of said cabinet ended up on our main table aka, my work surface. We took the opportunity to fix the floor in the little hallway while the cabinet was not there, finally got that done yesterday, so now the table is freed up. So I am finally able to keep struggling with this beastly again. Today's progress, I am 90% done with the removing mold lines on that body piece in the back and maybe 30% done with the wing. I guess I will have to green stuff that missing claw tip.
Glitterwolf
@Citrine have you tried contacting the creator? I have everything else but this one, and I have no miscasts. During the Halfling Campaign there were some people who had miscasts etc and they were replaced. Maybe it's worth trying?
Citrine
@Glitterwolf, I have not contacted them. I will think about it.
Citrine
Opened up another piece, it has a few issues: Stress fractures in the resin? 1
Glitterwolf
I would definitely contact the creator. I have a lot of their stuff without problems, during the KS the communication was good, so I hope they can help you out.
GodOfCheese
The scales near the stress fractures look kind of voxelated too, which is weird. I wonder if they 3d-printed the master but didn't antialias (or whatever the 3d equivalent is)...? I almost backed that KS because the models were so gorgeous (especially this one), but I really balked at the price. I hope they fix it for you!
Members SamuraiJack
Definitely glad I'll have this as an STL for printing so I dont have to worry about those imperfections.. I'll be curious to know what they say about it once you contact them
Glitterwolf
I backed the new STL KS as well. Getting it as a file works better for me, since the last time I skipped it because it's so huge. I will scale it down to a reasonable size.
Citrine
I have put this on hold, since the workspace i was using to work on this is now occupied by my work laptop for the foreseeable future.
Peithetairos
Hope you get back into it. Great miniature, but I feel your pain when it comes to excessive flash. 1
