Question for 11 January, 2020, Today is @TheAuldGrump!

Have you met someone in this hobby who you became good friends with?

And the Question for 12 January, is for @PaganMegan

Are you still friends with that person, and if so, for how long?

I met my last two relationships in the hobby, in 2003.

One was my ex-fiance who I elfed off from for my own safety. That was... awhile ago now

The other is my current partner of 11 years :B):

Question for 8 January 2020. Today is dedicated to @Talae

How many different games do you play?

Not as many as I'd like. Last year was rough so our game play plummeted. But we have a ton of board games and RPG's that we've made a resolution to play more of.

What threads do you enjoy participating in on the forums?

All of the one's that I post in. I lurk around the Craft Corner section a lot and enjoy those even if I'm not terribly active in them.

Jan. 11: My Husband. And I like to think that y'all are my friends too.

Jan. 12: I've known my Husband for just over 10 years as of December last year. So yes. I've been on the forums since 20...15? but only active a few years now.

Back in the mid 70's I got together with a college Gaming group.  I still game with four of them still. One more has joined and another is taking a break from our group but I still have Holiday Greetings from him, even though he now is a Texican.

The longest (three of them ) have been 44 years.

Yes, I've made hobby friends.

No, I'm not great at the whole 'being sociable' thing, so I have trouble maintaining friendships.

Coffee...  not going to happen ever...  I anticipate I will continue to drink it after death.

COFFEE!!  Obviously.

Also, WATER isn't a drink. It's a core ingredient that makes basically every other drink, but by itself, not a drink. You can drink it, but because it's in literally everything, it doesn't count as it's own thing. ::P:

Hmm. Could be I need to revise and extend my remarks.

Edit: I ate fast food today.

They asked: what do you want for a drink with your combo?

Me: Water

There is an enormous industry that acts as if water is a beverage choice :upside:

I can't say I've met any of my friends through the hobby, so much as met them in some environment and bonded over the hobby or developed our interest in it together. For example, I met my wife through work, but got closer to her by asking her to join my D&D campaign, and eventually we started dating and then getting married. So, while we both share a love of gaming, and she likes my miniatures painting, it wasn't what initially lead to our introductions and association.

I’m not really hooked on any particular beverage, so giving up tea or soda or whatnot is quite easy for me. So, water.

Q11: Yes, many times.

Q12: Some of them.  I make friends pretty easily, even if none of them are lifelong arrangements.  Though one of the friendships is going on 16 or 17 years now, even though we live across the country from each other.

In terms of just miniature painting? No. In fact I do not really know any real life people who also paint minis. I know plenty of gamers, across all manner of platforms and genres. Some of them I met through gaming. Some of them I've known since we were kids. Some I have dragged into the hobby kicking and screaming.

Of those I've met specifically because of gaming I'd say the oldest friendship there is going on 25 years. He's the nephew of one of my oldest friends and he used to come by and play in our Sunday games when he was 10 or so. When he was in high school he was in my mom's biology class. We all worked second shift back then so our games ran late. My mom would always remark to me about how tired he was on Mondays. He recently started hosting our monthly-ish game because he had his first kid last year and it's just easier if we all go to him.

There's other good friends with good stories. Some of which we only ever see at conventions. But that one is probably the oldest.

I've got friends that I've known for over a decade, all due to gaming. I was ridiculously shy when I was younger and I was actively encouraged by my parents to go out and be social at our local games club.

One particularly eccentric friend still sends me a Christmas card addressed to a character I played for 5 years in our old D&D game. Goodness knows what my postman thinks of it ^_^
