It is a time of unrest among the 28mm miniatures. All of Jasper's WIPs seem to focus on 10mm BSRs and 3D printing.  Rumor is rampant. Has Jasper forsaken his hordes of unpainted 28

Rule changes are always fun.

I checked my 800 point Imperial army from Tuesday and the changes to unit costs saved me 30 points.

I knew this change was coming, and at least it was all planned out with the original game designers before Legion got moved Atomic Mass (and the original designer was let go) this week.

Adjustments to get people more likely to use older stuff isn't a bad idea, especially since that's most of what I have painted ::D:

Well, I haven't got a lot of printing done the last few days, just other things going on. But I did some.

Saturday started the weekend off poorly:

20201126_IMG_1319.jpg.c689f041054ba62ab23ca84680d4dc39.jpg

That's about half a bottle of Scale 75 Black Metal.  The tip stuck in the lid and I didn't notice as I went to put one small drop in the palette.....sigh.

I really need to get some big syringes to rescue paint when that happens (it only happens when I only have one bottle of the colour and it is really hard to get a replacement btw).

So I switched my plans to painting as much that needed Black Metal as possible.

20201126_IMG_1316.jpg.b79774a0a22e0d3afb9397fe9eb42a54.jpg

So I did all the guns, then cleaned, primed, black base coated and Black Metal'd the E-Web .

Since then I've just had some time to do touchups, and the red lights on the chest plates.

20201126_IMG_1332.jpg.8a48ffd762b2820a3a08599c6f86c796.jpg

And I grabbed a set of bases.

Since we're back to a more locked down state I won't be playing in person for a little bit so that may have lowered my motivation a bit this week....

But I did install TTS and will hopefully be trying out a virtual game with my usual opponent from the LFGS sometime soon.

I've also been a bit distracted with the 3D printers as I'm printing out something to use as terrain for Legion.  It is almost done printing so we might be seeing that worked on fairly soon.

Didn't have a lot of time or motivation last night so I started on the bases.

20201130_IMG_1343.jpg.b46b67656f86cba0226e1ff7838310d5.jpg

Yes there are 8 bases and only 7 figures (the 2 e-Web guys go on the big base with the gun).  I'll decide which 7 I'm going to use for this unit before I change the markers to blue(second unit) and leave the other base aside at that point for a commander or add-on character later. Those bases come in 8 types so I figure I'll just do that with each unit as I go, and end up with some nearly done bases at the ready for when I need them.

And I think these guys are done.

Might try spray sealing them out in the garage after lunch, before the temp drops.  Hopefully no frosting, not that I'm sure you could tell with snowtroopers ::D:.

Still have to finish up the bases and will hopefully get the unit of snows at least finished up tomorrow (I have the day off).  Might take a bit longer to get the e-Web finished, but not too much.

Well my back decided it should take a little longer to get the bases done, but they are now.

I usually seal the bases before final assembly, and the weather outside is not sealer friendly, so I'll probably finish up the e-Web base first, then seal them al at once so I only stick up the place once.

But other than that these are done.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was planning to finish assembly on my eWeb last night, but figured I'd start prepping a 2nd unit of Rebel Veterans for my wife first.

I'm not sure exactly why I got a second unit for her...she rolls ridiculously well with them:

20201223_IMG_1314.thumb.jpg.8c7ff7423b9583f90d446b94ec094a92.jpg

That is an actual shot from a game we played a bit ago.  The blast with a circle in it is the crit symbol...there is a 1 in 8 chance of getting a crit on any colour die.....so yes that is 10 crits and a hit (she did use one Aim, which allowed a reroll of two dice, but still.....).  This attack resulted in the deletion of a full, untouched Stormtrooper unit, even after my armor saves.....

Anyway, I got carried away, so the new box is almost fully assembled now.

Just have to finish up mounting the Mark II and they'll be good to go (for now, they'll get painted eventually).

Had some time over the last two days for some prep and gluing.

20201226_IMG_1438.jpg.0c8e7333e7a688a11a5afdc23fe7e065.jpg

Not pictured, I finished gluing the Mark II on the base for the Rebel Veterans.  Didn't take a pic but they are now packed away in the case.

Then I sorted through my Inferno Squad/Imperial Special Forces to figure out what I needed before assembling the last box.  It is kind of a weird box as it doesn't break down quite right for the card.

A box contains 7 minis: 4 regular ISF, 1 heavy, and models for Gideon Hask and Del Meeko, who are unique characters.  BUT, the two cards provided are for Inferno Squad, which has one standard member plus has to have Gideon Hask and Del Meeko, and one standard ISF, which needs 4 standard guys plus you can add a heavy (either the standard one or both the unique guys count as heavies.
So, if they'd been nice, they'd have provided one regular for Inferno Squad and 4 regulars for the ISF.  They were not nice......
So, with 3 boxes and the fact I can only have one Inferno Squad, I end up with: on the right in black, and standard ISF with heavy, in the middle in black, a standard ISF with heavy, but with a Del Meeko fig (with standard gun and helmet on) as one of the regulars, on the left in black I have the Inferno Squad, one regular, and the two named guys without helmets, plus an additional Gideon with the Helmet on who will be painted as Inferno Squad in case I feel like running the helmeted version (this also means I can field one quicker, since painting faces takes longer than painting helmets :poke:), and in the center unpainted I have one standard ISF with heavy, and an extra Del with sniper rifle and helmet on, for the same reasons and the extra Gideon.
Inferno Squad will get painted in black with red.  One ISF will be pretty much black on black.  The unprimed ones will be done in white and grey (once I find the pic I saw....they looked sharp).  And the last I'm not sure of yet....black but maybe with grey or something else.

And the eWeb is assembled and just needs a little detail work on the hose and gun to finish up.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....

No, a longer time ago.....in continuation of a "fine" tradition, we will now move backwards in time to the era of The Clone Wars.
(Hey hey, relax, don't leave.  No no, we aren't going to talk about THAT movie.  There will be no mention of trade embargos or senate politics.  Well, no other mention.....
To be completely honest, there may be references to it though....sorry.  But they did just come out with a Maul fig, and it is the version from THAT movie.....)

So, this will be a continuation of the previous WIP on Star Wars Legion.  New year, new WIP, oh and new core box.  My wife got me the Clone Wars core for Christmas (I MIGHT have hinted a few.....hundred.......times).
As I'm already painting way too much white armor (which I'll still be painting (forever)), I'm focusing on the Droids.  Yes I know they are called the Separatists Alliance, but Droids is easier to spell and you all know what I mean.
(Note, if you do not know what I'm referring to then we can wait while you pop off and watch Star Wars Episodes II and III.  Oh and the 7 seasons of the animated Clone Wars series (not to be confused with Star Wars: Clone Wars, which was a 3 season animated series and is now considered non-canonical).  All are available on Disney+ btw.  While there you might as well watch the 4 seasons of Rebels, as Sabine, Clan Wren and Kallus will be showing up at some point. You should probably watch the 2 seasons of The Mandalorian too if you haven't yet too.  Not that I'll probably be painting anything from there, well I do have some stls....but the reason to watch it is because it is awesome!!!)

I'll be continuing to work on my Imperials, but I'll also be starting on my Droid army, which I'll be painting primarily with contrast paint, doing some wear and damage (unlike my pristine Imps) and basing fairly simply with just some sand or gravel or something on the standard bases (we'll see for sure when I get the first unit done).
      So starting out:

I assembled 2 B1s, and glued together two units of Imperial Royal Guard, which I'd prepped quite a while ago.  The Guards are the old plastic so were quickly superglued together. They are only 3 pieces each. They'll get pins for their feet soon.
The droids are the new hard plastic so they recommend plastic glue.  FYI they still need to superglued to the bases apparently. as the bases are a different plastic.
The droids come in 8 parts...each.  Yep that's a lot of very small, very skinny parts.  I only dropped a couple. At least I found them all. (parts are 2 legs, 2 arms (one with the gun attached), body, backpack, and two pieces of head.  Somehow they needed to make the head 2 pieces.....)
Since I hadn't put them together before I took my time trying not to mess up.  I still managed to, a bit.

Crouching guy took some damage from a bit of plastic glue on my thumb while trying to align the arms.  As I'm planning to make these guys a little beat up and worn, not big deal.
It's late and these are fiddly, so that's as far as I got tonight.  I should be able to crank out most of a unit (note, the B1 unit comes with 9 figures....you start with 6 in the unit, then can optionally add an extra troop, and one of two heavy weapon options) tomorrow hopefully as long as the snow storm doesn't take out power or something equally annoying.

      Roger Roger.

So this is my year in review.  It was a strange year, what with working from home since early March.  I initially thought that would mean I'd paint more, but after spending 8+ hours every day sitting 3 feet from my painting desk but working, it really didn't work out that way. Eventually I was able to get some stuff painted so things are working better now.
At the start of the year I decided I wanted to not just pick up some random Star Wars Legion stuff to paint, but to actually play the game.  Unfortunately everything shut down before I could watch a game at the LFGS.
After I got enough prepped at home, my very patient and understanding wife agreed to play some small games so I could sort out the rules.  It must be reasonably fun for her, we just played a game on Monday....
Eventually the store opened up for play again and I got in about a half dozen games before the latest wave hit and put a stop to that.  If all goes well we should be back to playing in a couple weeks.

      As far as painting:

That was my output for the year.  I count it as 52 figures (51 bases but the e-Web has two Snowtroopers on the base.....). Not bad at all for me, especially considering it took me two months to paint the first unit of Stormtroopers and I had a big slump during the hot part of the summer where my output was nil.
As you can probably tell, I play Imperials. And, because I'm using the premium bases and painting them, I can only field what I've painted.  So I've been pushing on painting Imperials.  The only rebel unit I've painted is the Rebel Veterans.  The LFGS rain a painting contest online during the shutdown and I figured painting yet more white and black wasn't going to impress....

      Here is the breakdown:
      Rebels:
      1 box of Rebel Veterans

      Imperials
      2 units of Stromtroopers
      1 unit of Scout Troopers
      2 units of Snowtroopers
      1 e-WEB heavy blaster team
      2 units of Speederbikes
Darth Vader (the starter box edition)
      General Veers
and the Imperial Officer and FX-9 Medical Droid from the Imperial Specialists Personnel Expansion.

Looking forward to 2021 I still have a lot of Imperials left to paint. Luckily most are assembled, some are primed and a number of Stormtroopers already have a wash and drybrush done.
This is good because I got the Clone Wars starter for Christmas (awesome wife strikes again!) so I'll be starting to assemble Droids soon....

(Yes, the title is a throwback to a contest I ran years ago on here....no I'm not running another one, with today's shipping rates, ugh......)

This is where I'm going to work on 3D printed terrain pieces for Star Wars Legion, most of which currently are going to be spaceships.  Because why use generic terrain when you can be shooting Rebel Scum hiding behind X-wings and the like?

      Up first is this:

All the FDM bits are there, but most of the resin bits (guns, ramp, interior) are still in a bin waiting to have their supports removed and cured.
I figured I should get a thread started as maybe that will get me over that initial hurdle of actually starting.  This has all been printed for a week or two and just sitting there....plus I'm gonna need that airbrush booth for other things sooner or later....

I will, of course, be attempting to make this look somewhat like the original episode 5 version, not some retconned prequel sillyness.

Now to go listen to some Prism.

This morning I started on one of my Mandalorians.
Started with base coats on the grey and green and then a dark wash. Then picked out the leather items and washed them as well. Then a first coat on the cape and base. Oh, and base coated and washed the metal too.

Up next is Cad Bane. However, first some bonus Battle Droids. These guys painted up very quickly.
