From the BGG comments and reviews, I got the impression that Restoration Games didn't do a good job with Fireball Island, both from game design and game component quality.

OTOH, Dark Tower doesn't have all those marbles and Isaac Childress of Gloomhaven fame is involved?

Fireball Island was at least a good game.  Dark Tower really isn't.  It was a cool gimic and not much more.  Nostalgia will power this one.  And they price they put on Fireball Island was way too much.  I would have gotten it, but Fireball Island is not a $100 game.

I did get the game.  It is well put together.  The board is solid and structurally sound, the marbles roll well, the spaces are big enough to hold the pieces you can jar the board without knocking everything out.  It is really high in chance but that is the idea of the game.  the whole thing does fit well in the main box and it is significantly beefier than the original game (which I have as well).

Does the game need that level of quality?  No, it could have been done a lot lower quality production and you would still have fun with it,  Does the better quality make a better game, maybe.  We have had a lot of fun with this in our group and its quick to set up and knockdown so it falls right into starter category.

As for price, it is what you want to pay for it.  There are a lot of games that don't deserve their pricepoints. ($50 boxes for werewolf:  I'm looking at you!)  but there were a lot people who wanted it and they got a quality product.  Would I do it again?  Yes.  Will I be backing dark tower?  No.  I never did like the game

OTOH:  its the game I don't like.  if they were to do other games I would consider them.

Eh, it caps at $275 US (if you get the neoprene mat and coin)..Not cheap by any stretch, but there's a limit and quite a bit of content.

I'm having trouble with this one.  I don't know why they needed the "Dark Tower" name with all these changes.  Yes, they're talking about adding a "classic" version that plays in the same way as the original (gather the keys, storm the tower), but I'm not sold.  The game being app-driven is also a drawback.  It just seems wrong to have the tower AND another device.

That's still $360 CAD, or a good chunk of paint, or two thirds of the airbrush setup I want, etc etc.

Or a third of the Bones V that I want...

The more I think about it, the more inclined I am to pass on this one.

      Story

Eerie in the contrast of their lethal size and silent movement, ScorpionMechs are deployed on the orbital and planetside battlefield when no quarter is to be given to the enemy, and none expected.
                  They're colony killers.

You send them in when you want the enemy base and any feeble defenders protecting it razed to the ground.
These scuttling terrors can chop enemy armors in half in close quarters or pound them to pieces from a distance.  Using a variety of modular payloads, the ScorpionMech can tailor its weapons suite to the mission, whether it be cold, quiet up-close killing, napalm and gatling cascades at ballistic distances, or missiles beyond the horizon.
(Pre-production 28mm ScorpionMech sample shown with additional Viper Suit weaponry.  Waldo and PugBots shown for size ref)

Though they usually make their way overland to the target, there are rumors of ScorpionMechs deploying from orbit with bolted-on belly packs containing fuel and maneuvering thrusters.  The thought of an orbital insertion of these lethal machines is terrifying, but not beyond reason.  There is even a confirmed case of a jetpack-equipped ScorpionMech being used to rip a pirate raider's ship to pieces during an attempted boarding action.  Needless to say, scratch one pirate ship.
Viper suit pilots may try and put a brave face on it, but when faced with a ScorpionMech, they know that the best place to be is somewhere else.

Just launched a Kickstarter for a comprehensive line of 6mm Chinese Warring States miniatures.  There are 16 different packs to choose from, with all miniatures sculpted by Chris Smith of Wakes Emporium.

The sculptor also has a Patreon focused on small scale miniatures, and is definitely worth a look for any 3D printing hobbyists with an interest in the smaller scales:

Due to my inability to collect VAT, the KS is closed to pledges in the UK, but all miniatures will be made available to UK customers after the campaign via my Etsy store which remits the VAT for me.
