Snitchies Terrain Emporium Updated 29 January

Some in game photos of last nights game.  We played the Left Hand and Right Hand scenario.  The narrow streets and clutter played merry havoc with the statues line of site so it was attacking models that were much farther away than you might expect.

The streets in many cases were narrow enough to jump over and only allowed fleeting glimpses of distant targets.

Here is my entry for the LAF Build Something Competition.  This years theme was a place of worship.  I built a chronomancers shrine in the form of a clock tower for Frostgrave.  I also incorporated a dice tower into the build.  Lots of scratch built and 10mm 3dprinted skeletons regiments details.  Hope you like.

Mechanical clock.  Not happy with how this face came out but was unable to strip it.

I have been working on some 3d printed impaled victims.  They still need ground work and a bit more paint but I am happy so far with how they are turning out.  I had the fifteen victims printed twice and spread them among ten bases with skewers to flesh out the posts.  I had them printed through Protius 3D Modeling.  If you are in the UK and have the need I would highly recommend them.

Photos of the bases.

My test base is mixed in these to show what the finished product would look like.

Lastly with some terrain.

I don't think they will every be more than background scatter to set the scene but I am happy so far.

Finished up with the Forest of Sorrow.

Darkened the rotting flesh and used lower foliage to accentuate the poles.

Photographed on a neutral background so they show up better.

Two projects, one old and one new.

As the club is getting into old west gaming I am working up some terrain starting with vegetation.  These are a mix of Pegasus Hobbies prickly pears and organ pipe cactus, plastic plant blue agaves, and wire covered in sand ocotillos.  The plastic adhering spray paint is chipping a bit on the plastic plants so I do not know how long they will last but overall I am happy with how these came out.  I am waiting for some grass tufts to arrive so have not done lesser vegetation yet.  Painted in thin washes of acrylics to build up the color.  There are a total of fourteen stands so there are more photos on my blog if you are interested.   I am particularly chuffed with the bases.  Having grown up in Southern Arizona, I can say I did too many blue agaves and too few ocotillos but I am pleased with the results.

Next is I finished the last two tiles in my modular cave system.  Now I just have to play with some highlights and washes to even out the tones.

Took a week off work since I have not had any real time off since December.  Figured I would kick out a quick build for my fantasy setting.  As I have tonnes of medieval weapons an armory fit the bill.  In the real world this would be tucked in a castle or fortified building but as this is for fantasy I took some liberties.  Still needs some weathering.

I got a deal on the Amazon for 300 mils of UV resin and decided to see what I could do with it.

The first thing was to try a clear skull coming out of a pool or gateway.  I used Oyumaru to make a press mold of a GW giant skull, cast it in clear resin.  I textured a ring of foamex as stone and made a backing of crumpled up foil on mount-board.

IMG_3482.jpg

Once I assembled it I set the skull in the center and then filled around with more resin.  This was tinted with a GW ink.

Did another with tinted resin on a white background.

I also tried some clear Shrinky Dink to make a dark menacing shadow.
Here it is in the original size.

Here it is after baking.

This was mounted on clear plastic and set in a doorway.  I used inks to add tinting to the plastic, set in resin front and back then textured with Modge Podge.

Hope that gives everyone some ideas of things to try.

Starting a new building.  At this point I am calling it the house of the chattering skulls.  It will be a necromancer's workshop.  First bits are some of the interior details. The work table is made with foamex with a Reaper bones zombie.  The shelves are made of mount board with stencil board edging.  3D, GW plastic skulls and scratch built details were added.  The symbol is Fimo rolled with a GSW roller.  Hope you like.
