Lady Tam
If they kept it real general with a fantasy theme, then they will be happy with what ever they get. I know I specified "fantasy" and left it at that, that way the person doing my mini could work on something that really "talked" to them rather than being forced into doing something they normally don't like to paint. If they wanted something specific they would have told Steven, "by the way I really like dwarves" (Or elves, or mages what ever the case may be), and Steven would have passed it on to you. So, if you got a general one, then keep working on what you are doing. And enjoy! LT
Qwyksilver
I just had an excuse to run to my FLGS last night so I could get the mini I wanted to paint for my exchange. I already had him, but, I wanted to make sure I had one to paint and keep for myself So, he's mounted, and hoping for a not so humid day to prime. pae
Of course, Lady Tam said that she really likes elves for the exchange I ran. I painted a dancer instead. Still haven't received my assignment, but I wouldn't be able to start on it right away anyway, so I'm not concerned about it. I probably won't even have to buy anything, since I have something like 200 unpainted Reaper minis still in blisters here.
battleMountainminis
Thanks LT I'm really happy about this fig. but don't want to disapoint the receiver I feel better about the choice I made now. B PS> Do we ship them when they're finished, or do we wait till closer to the final date indicated in the original post? I should have it done in the next couple of days..I've been working on it off and on for simply weeks and I'm a bit overzealous at times. Also this way if additional figures are needed so everyone can play I can help out with some. OK, I'm weird but being "grounded" from my current job hunt cuz of surgery I'm getting stir crazy and this is great rehab. ALSO..Is it proper to only post pics after the receiver has gotten it or can it be posted somewhere other than the forum for feedback? I KNOW NEWBIES AND THEIR DUMB QUESTIONS>>>> But, momma always told me the only dumb question is the unasked one..this is the same momma that told me everything after "but" is BullSh*t ..who can you believe except ones momma
Qwyksilver
I just needed an excuse to get to the FLGS Flynn One that would be plausible and sufficient to convince my wife. Well, and the mini I wanted to paint, I only had one of, so I needed to get an extra for my personal collection. Unfortunately, she's catching on to how many I have I think, and I may need to be more stealthy in my approach "They won't listen to reason". While I was opening and cleaning off a few of my new purchases, she was like, "How many of these things do you exactly have that you still need to paint?" All I could think was "Oh Sh**, she's on to you. Think. Think. Okay, this will work. Ummmm I have a few, but these were ones I didn't have that I specifically needed for the exchange." I got a look that said "I'm not buying that crap, you bought 15 miniatures and only need to exchange one. But I love you so I will just kind of smile and let you think you are smarter than me and getting one by me. I know you love this hobby." ixminis
Thank goodness my wife is supportive of this habit... er... hobby... but for those who's significant others are unsupportive... Combative & Smart-Aleck Approach: Even if you don't like my hobby, I'd appreciate it if you could be supportive. The hobby is miniature collecting not miniature painting. Smart Aleck: My goal is to line at least one room with lead in case of nuclear fallout / evil gamma rays, etc. Combative: How many <insert vice here> do you have that you've never used? (Shoes, purses, make-up, skimpy outfits) Reasoning: If my hobby budget was reasonable I could stick to it (collector, not a painter) Sympathy: I thought you married me for who I am, and this is a part of me... Sneaky: Store 'em at a friends house until you are ready to paint 'em... Get orders shipped to a buddies house until you are ready for 'em... make them "gifts" from friends... When I worked at a hobby store there was one thing that I always told the wives/girlfriends (and a few husband/boyfriends) that always got an agreeable smile. "There are certainly worse hobbies out there. He could be spending the same amount on beers at some bar. This way, even though he's got his face stuck in a pile of miniatures and paints...he's staying home with you." Works every time ;)
Qwyksilver
Not if you like having a pint while you paint <grin>

Lady Tam
ALSO..Is it proper to only post pics after the receiver has gotten it or can it be posted somewhere other than the forum for feedback? So as not to ruin the suprise, it is n=best to wait til they get the mini. And after all you only have to wait a couple of days, POst office is rather fast. And Flynn, here I thought you picked the dancer becaise of my "other" hobby! LT
pae
LT -- I did. In fact, if I could have found a dancing elf, that would have been even better.
Lady Tam
LOL! You know, the old Unicorn Dragon put out by Grenadier had a dancing elf in it! But, yes, I am an elf fanatic, can't help it. Always will be one too I think. But I like all the minis put out by Reaper, so no matter what I get I will like it and enjoy it. LT
