Do you see what I see? A temple? A factory? A mech base? Corporate office?

Recommended Posts

I was cleaning up behind my barn and found this half-buried in the dirt.  Was just on the way to throwing it out when I just couldn't.  So I washed most of the dirt off, and cut a base from scrap plywood I had, and away I go!  I actually have a semi-solid plan.  I want to knock this one out fast, first of all, so maybe it'll get done this year (ideally before spring or even March, but I know how things go).  I want it to evoke a few things without quite indicating any of them.  The Tyrell building from Blade Runner is a big one.  The magitek factory from Final Fantasy VI is another.  But I also want to maintain that primitive temple look--like a Mayan or Aztek pyramid--which the shape itself lends to.  I also want it to appear as though it's either been abandoned or nearly so, and nature has started to retake it.  So lots of pipes and vines and gears (see my initial bits pile) and maybe a surprise if I can keep motivated...  Let me know what you think!

Ha, also noticed my little Narshe cottage in the background--it's nearly complete as far as building.  That'll be for another topic though!

Kinda reminds me of the Endor Bunker, though I can definitely see it being some sort of hanger, for mechs or aircraft.

Subtle notes of a Hoth snowspeeder bay there as well....nice haul!

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing. Some kind of hangar bay and a variety of pieces for a communications array.

A little progress.  Mainly a zoom-in to see the joints between the metal plates of the structure.  I messed with a few tricks to get thin, STRAIGHT lines--dragging a square, round, or triangular file, a hacksaw blade, a jeweler's saw...  Ended up using a metal ruler as a guide and an xacto knife--the trick is to drag it ever-so lightly, else the blade will veer off course even with a guide.  I've also attached a few pieces at this point--some in the pic.  More to come soon!

Definitely those.  Been trying to find bits to accommodate those.  May end up furbishing them myself.

Presenting Little Dorothy, the fourth member and leader of the Oz gang from Twisted by Demented games.
Wasn't as fun to paint as some of the others, but I think she turned out okay.

As a bonus, here she is with Big Dorothy (The original version I painted a while ago):-

Weirdly, they both ended up in the same colour dress despite not looking at Big Dorothy until I dug her out to take this piccy.

It has been a while since my last post, I'm am just struggling to find the free time to sit down and paint or build at the moment.

Anyway, this week I got the opportunity to run some run some 'build along' model making workshops with the kids at the Youth Centre where I work, and we have been putting together little X-mas themed display pieces.  It was actually pretty fun being able to share and introduce a new generation to the joys of my nerdy hobby.  I was pretty pleased with how they turned out so I figured I would share.

The base is just a piece of log, and the moose is a very cheap plastic toy (I repainted mine), which I managed to find at a local discount store in big buckets of 50 animals for £2, they really cheap and nasty, but actually paint up nicely.  Everything else is just standard modeling stuff, sculptamold, static grasses, clump foliage etc.

On another note I have not forgotten about or abandoned my Apocalyptic Suburbia Journal, it is still sat on my desk gathering dust.  I plan to get back to it in the new year.

(Yes, the title is a throwback to a contest I ran years ago on here....no I'm not running another one, with today's shipping rates, ugh......)

This is where I'm going to work on 3D printed terrain pieces for Star Wars Legion, most of which currently are going to be spaceships.  Because why use generic terrain when you can be shooting Rebel Scum hiding behind X-wings and the like?

      Up first is this:

All the FDM bits are there, but most of the resin bits (guns, ramp, interior) are still in a bin waiting to have their supports removed and cured.
I figured I should get a thread started as maybe that will get me over that initial hurdle of actually starting.  This has all been printed for a week or two and just sitting there....plus I'm gonna need that airbrush booth for other things sooner or later....

I will, of course, be attempting to make this look somewhat like the original episode 5 version, not some retconned prequel sillyness.

Now to go listen to some Prism.

Every year I put together a village using as many of my noncombative miniatures along with my Dwarven forge village a few pieces from my parents ceramic village and my old shops from the fire as she bears campaign

It may not be finished yet but its a good start to the holiday!
