What are Reaper Bucks?

Currency used in the auction on Sunday. You earn Reaper bucks through various activities throughout the weekend. Play a game, earn bucks, take a class, earn bucks, etc etc.

Wow, I see a VIP bag in my future...

It's Scrip [Monopoly Money] that is redemable on a dollar per Reaper Buck basis for the auction.

Also, you need Reaper Bucks [Lots of Reaper Bucks!] for the Auction on Sunday.

You get Reaper Bucks for participation.  Register, you get some bucks.  Take a Class, get some bucks. Wear a costume, get bucks.  Wear a Reaper Shirt with this years art, get bucks.  Etc.

For the auction on Sunday people usually pool their Bucks in order to bid on things like the paint sets, which are all the remainders from the paints used for the classes and things like Paint and Take and Ludo Says games, packaged in a plastic carrier and sold to the highest bidder for each lot.  There is also mucho other swag up for auction , not just from Reaper but from the other participating Vendors and Sponsoring Businesses as well.

Notably, ReaperBucks are the only currency accepted at the auction. Internationally recognized national bank notes need not apply.

As @Heisler likes to point out, the only real price at the auction is 'free'.

This is how crazy the auction is these days, back in '06 or '07 I won the first Dragons Don't Share for 457 Reaperbucks. These days that won't even get a themed Reaper coffee cup or mousepad.

There has definitely been a lot of inflation, but Part of it is that Reaper is simply handing out bigger denominations to start. I don’t think I’ve ever won something purely on the strength of the Reaper bucks I earned during the con.

These days, VIPs get 500 Reaper bucks just for showing up, and the one Reaper buck chip is a thing of the past.

I also think it’s hard to put enough items into the auction to keep up with the number of attendees, while still keeping the auction to a reasonable amount of time.

Oh definitely. I think back then it was just games (whether it be rpg or miniature games) & classes. Thou, there was a deal you could turn in swag points (remember those!!!) into Rbucks as well & that got screwed up as the exchange rate got mixed up (you got more bucks then you should have per swag point). I know there was a couple of people that had a lot of bucks but that is because they camped out at the dungeon crawl table & played that most of the weekend. There really wasn't allot of pooling, so called "families of bidders" either. If you had a decent amount of bucks, you were bound to get something. I got my bucks off the exchange + I'm sure that was year I spent Friday 9 am to 9 pm in classes solid (I don't recommend doing that.....::D:).

New this year will be a new program to use your ReaperBucks and not just at the Auction. More details to come. We are still ironing out details on this new program so we can't report anything just yet....but just wanted to let you know that ReaperBucks will have more uses than before.

i look forward to it! all the years i've gone, i've just given every reaperbuck i got to Pcktlnt for the auction and occasionally he'll get me something with them, otherwise i know it goes to help someone else get something, but it 'd be fun to spend them myself too haha

Since I don't participate in the auction anymore (I got what I wanted out of it, one year) so I tend to use the bucks I get as bonus rewards in my games that I run. It's more or less 5e inspiration but for Reaperbucks instead! Looking forward to the new plan for Rbucks!

Actually not quite true. There are usually plenty of things that do go for less than 500 reaper bucks. It just depends on what people want.
