Question for March 23rd:

When you watch comedy (in whatever form, tv programs/movies or stand-up, etc) what type attracts your attention more?

I don’t know.

None of the above....

A clever premise... Good writing... Being a BritCom helps...  Except when it doesn’t...

There is no pattern that explains the comedy shows I can tolerate. There are many that get a hard pass.

I like (and laugh) at pretty much anything, Peter Sellars and Laurel and Hardy probably top the bill.

The one thing that nearly always falls flat for me is stand-up. So much of it is politically motivated and cheap rubbish. I used to enjoy it more when I was... a lot younger. Being blind drunk at the time probably helped.

I don't watch a lot of comedy, but I guess I prefer things a bit absurd maybe?  Python, Mr. Bean, Blackadder, that sort of thing.

I mostly tend to watch more serious shows that have a humorous streak running through them. Buffy, Firefly, The Rookie...

I probably like stand-up the best and, with that, irreverence or incisive commentary tends to be pretty appealing (e.g. George Carlin).  I sometimes like comedic movies or shows that incorporate humor, but I don't generally get into sitcoms.

What’s on mine, at the moment, is a disastrous mess, and my task today is to see if I can clean it up enough to actually work on it.

If I actually get that far, I expect that I will be working on one of the three 12-figure units in the black primer (clockwise from top left Ral Partha medieval spearmen, Ral Partha medieval crossbowmen, ancient Minifig Mythic Earth true orc archers) or a group of Ral Partha personalities, exemplified by the thief with the big hat, with a quick black wash over white primer.

But now it’s time to stop talking about it and go put some things away. :upside:

Happy to see another thief in the works Rob!

Truthfully, I honestly have no idea, since I can't really even say what genres of movie I prefer the most.  Twenty years ago me would have said Schwarzenegger...  So action, maybe? Ah unno.

Most Mel Brooks movies are good, especially Spaceballs...

I find stand-up can be either hit or miss. Work had our yearly holiday thingy at some stand up place, and the guy that was there was fairly well known for his prank stories as well as pot related ones, so we didn't go.  On the flipside, I did used to enjoy Royal Canadian Air Farce back in the '90's, as well as This Hour Has 22 Minutes (also back in the nineties).

It's extremely situational.  Depends on my mood, who I'm with, what else has been going on. I enjoy subtle humor and satire, among others. I like political jokes, unless they get elected.

Depends on my mood, but action is a frequent choice. I enjoy Marvel's movies, I like the Matrix, etc. I occasionally enjoy something with romance, horror, drama, etc, but the primary go-to is probably action overall.

I like most comedy, as long as it's written intelligently. Even good dumb movies are well-written and cast, something like Friday or Airplane, for example. Lots of bad dumb comedy. But I love everything from the Stooges to Looney Tunes to Carlin to Brookes to Seinfeld to Always Sunny.

I do like some cleverness to my humour. Be it observational humour that reveals the silliness of everything we do; the surreal situations of a Monty Python sketch; the obliviousness to the puns of Abbot and Costello's "Who's on first."; nearly every one of Rowan Atkinson's characters by their facial expressions.

I'm less a fan of toilet humour, or mean spirited humour, with no seemingly redeeming value outside of a cheap laugh. The reason why I tend to dislike Family Guy, while I love South Park.

Sketch comedy is always a toss up. Saturday Night Live has produced some of the best and worst sketches and characters I've ever seen.

I can appreciate parodies and satire if I'm familiar with the source.

Fail or blooper videos are a mixed bag. I can laugh at "Oopsies!". But I don't laugh when people genuinely seem like they injured themselves. And don't get me started on the amount of idiotic challenges online.

I place puns in the "high risk - high reward" category. They can be winners or groaners.

Dad jokes. Just... don't.

It honestly depends on my mood. Most of the time I like clever puns (or not so clever), dad jokes, absurdities, and such. I have an abiding fondness for a good clown (Lucille Ball, for example). I even like potty humor when I’m feeling juvenile enough.

What I never like is destructive, racist, sexist, or ablest attempts at humor. Those are just gross.

I like the darker humor and the bizarre, my favorites are Blackadder, Monty Pyhton, Fawlty Towers and such shows.
