His name is Rollo the Viking or Rollo the Dane, depends on who you ask. So, if I signed up for your class I would probably try to do some work on him, while listening in for tips that might be applicable. Voting for which to do would need to happen ahead of the event (?) to give people time to acquire the chosen sculpt. While you can paint along, I'm not structuring it as a paint-along. I will be moving very quickly to try to get as much work on the bust as possible. It takes me at least 20-30 hours to finish a bust, so I'm going to be using all my sneaky tricks to paint as fast as I can. I will explain them, I promise! So, yes, plan on Sarah Kilmister. TGP- I have a few male busts in process, so I can show you the differences in how I paint them versus the female figures. As a general rule, the transitions are sharper. SamuaiJack- Would printing something be legal? Most of those files would stipulate no commercial use, correct? Clearman- I'll have to look into heads. cool! I'm getting excited!!! yay reapercon! From what I understand on the class kits, they're coming. Reaper asked me what colors and models I was going to use for my other classes, so I know they're planning to have them available. I listed materials for the other classes in the description I think, though they were almost out of the cloud giantess so I'm using the frost giant queen instead. I'll preface with I Am Not A Lawyer, but digital rights is something I've been paying a bit of attention to for a few years now. Most busts you have purchased will have a variation of a "non-commercial, personal use only" license that means you can only print it for personal use. Technically that means you can only print it for yourself to use, or for a one off gift. If you're using it for a class, that is technically not Personal Use. Now there are some classifications and rules that allow for specific copying for non commercial education in the absence of an available educational license, but those traditionally apply to written materials, and 3d printing is kind of a fuzzy area where copyright is concerned right now. However, if you're doing it as part of a convention that the attendees have paid to attend, that technically pushes it into commercial territory, even if there's no additional charge for that specific class. All that being said though, is that if you purchased something under a personal use only license, you can always try to reach out to the rights holder and request an exception. Since this is for a class and for a limited distribution, I have a feeling that many would probably be enthusiastic about it, but some might only ask for a nominal fee. There would be outliers that would require you to purchase the commercial license however. All of this is moot if you already have a commercial license. Most of those may prohibit distributing the digital file, but the printed versions of it you can usually sell or give away how you see fit (the license may have some specific distribution requirements that you'll need to be aware of but that can vary quite a bit) Interestingly, that Bella Nacht bust, I can't find a specific license on GumRoad, but on his MyMiniFactory page she specifies a Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial license, which basically means you can share it for free and you can alter it and distribute it as long as whatever you make from it keeps the same license terms, however you cannot use it for anything commercial. That said, there ARE lots of items with appropriate license that can be used. Thingiverse makes it really easy to see what kind of license you're dealing with and does allow designers several choices. For example, I just looked up the "Elf Archer Bust" by Midost that I've seen many others print, and it is licensed under a Creative Commons - Attribution 4.0 license. (details in link) There's no prohibition against commercial use, only that you have to give credit to the original artist. If there were a handout with the class that says "We will be painting the Elf Archer bust sculpted by Midost on Thingiverse, found at >link here<" That actually meets the terms of the license.
