Darcstaar vs. Bones I, Ep. 7 Kagunk

Recommended Posts

Well, while I let Devona dry, I’ll switch gears to a mini off the shelf of waiting...

I started Kagunk, Ofre Chieftain a year or two ago.

The plan is for an ice ogre, with blue-gray skin.

Managed to get a suitably intense stare-down with the eyes.  His eyes are surprisingly small for a big head.

Khaki Shadow, Dirty Bone, Splintered Bone on the teeth.  Went with a hit of Linen White for one last highlight, not pictured.

Experimenting with a different hue shadow color.  This is Burgundy Wine.  I worry that Twilight Blue/Snow Shadow/Ghost White will come off a little lifeless, and this is my attempt to change that.

Snow Shadow.  It seems Sooo White.  Have to take a leap of faith to keep going with Ghost White and Dragon White...

Ghost White.  Some of the shadows are so deep as to look like tattoos.  They are supposed to be shadows next to bulging veins.

Thanks!  Yeah, I think he has a little bit of an undead vibe.

Either Undead or a bit like Oni from Japanese folklore, a bit Demon like.

Who knows?

Anyway, I like it!

Skulls and pouch.  Took 4 coats, but this is 1:1 Ruddy Flesh:Desert Stone.

So, I recently purchased the "Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments Monsters Paint Set". Came with a bunch of Army Painter washes and paints and yadda yadda yadda...

But it also came with this neat Owlbear mini, which is what I have to share with you guys today!

First eyes I ever successfully painted. But in my defense, I'd only ever tried on minis with smallish eyes, which was NOT the brightest idea I'd ever had. The left eye turned out really good in my opinion, but the right one was a bit messy.

I also need to do so me touch-up work on the base. I got a bit careless with the wash, and uh... Yeeeeah.

Lastly and leastly, I didn't upload an outdoor picture as I usually do. That'll probably come later, provided I don't forget.

The dire crocodile, dire boar, and dire crab were one of the Bones 4 addons, and it doesn't look like they've hit retail just yet. Which is a shame, because we need more giant crabs.

The mud on the dire crocodile's base is just some water effect goo dribbled on that half of the base. The barnacles attached to the rocks on the dire crab's base were sculpted with green stuff. The rocks... those are just rocks.

I'm looking for something to stick Bones, specifically Ma'al Drakar's terrain, to a wooden base. It's not thick enough, at the area I want to place it, to pin effectively.

What kind of adhesives would work? I'm thinking epoxy, maybe? I just /really/ don't want to melt it accidentally and have to buy a new one.

I just like the way the blue/black wings look.  - I did the same with the Librarian Sophie. (last month)
I really need to paint up one of the metal versions for contrast.
I'm not sure what she is serving - Meat, bread and salad is the way I painted it, but that could be cake instead.

Been wanting to paint this one for awhile. Love the dynamic pose! Really happy with this one.
