And the rest is primed. I'm especially proud of that roof base - 1 teal craft paint,  1 brown primer, 1 gray primer.

I had more time than expected and got all my drybrush done for this stage at noon. Then tonight  I did my first wash. I'm pretty happy with how things look now. May decide to do finishing on saturday

Stuff dried nicely. Nice to know I can do this Will most often have crypt on hill "old" cemetery fenced off.

Things have been painted.

Metal bars got a black wash. Still a few gray bits I need to decide what to do with. Toppers have been filed and painted.one seems to be stuck in the post, so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to glue it?

I had to file a bunch of bits to fit: the roof spine, and the tabs for the walls.

I need to decide if I want the crypt to be able to disassemble for storage or be standing for ease of play. If I want to remove the roof, then I'll need to either not glue things or figure out where to file it,  then touch up.

I found the tongue depressors. Here's a sample layout.  1 post, 1 fence, flush to either side,  room at front and back for flock etc

Turns out I'm short 2 posts. 12 posts 14 bits of fence. That means I can choose to go full modular, and do the posts separate, or do all but leave 2 sections without. I might do that, because I think I can fake a few broken posts in foamcore.

  • 2 weeks later...

So over the past few weeks I've been trying to think of what to do... then trying to find the time to do it

All fences and crypt pieces have been varnished (2 gloss, 1 matte) and had a coat of matte medium applied too, though I'll probably have to do 1 more coat. Things are play protected.

I'll be assembling the crypt WITHOUT glue so that I can take the roof off if wanted. It's super tight and I still filed off a  bunch from connector pieces.

I will be gluing the spikes on the roof and the door, but otherwise all a tight fit.

Currently my fence bases have a coat of clear modgepodge on one side and a coat mixed with brown craggy paint on the other (it'll be the top). Once I've done tracing the squares for the extra broken posts,  I'll glue them all to the tongue depressors and flock. The clear side allows me to measure stuff out and cut accordingly.

Got my gluing done -  all posts, the roof, the door, the... spire? Seriously what do you call the little pointy bit? The toppers are on but I  didn't take photos of them or the roof.

I made my homemade posts. They look ok.20200506_221312.jpg.5bf7a23b019129476cde2a08701413b8.jpg20200506_221356.thumb.jpg.1208978ea8a2b6ae087b069bd6951927.jpg20200506_213924.thumb.jpg.e1543a68bcdd1749ec5906de985f22d7.jpg

I had a minute and rolled out foam bits for elevated sections and glued them to wood. And tested the cobble path. Debating full width or using it as a stamp. Kinda inspired by Pere Lachaise but in a MUCH smaller scale.

Here's a sample layout.

Needs another coat of matte.20200516_213040.thumb.jpg.586bdc033d2edabe4985a91e8855d718.jpg20200516_212939.thumb.jpg.11e83fdd9fd23d7051dd981c60e30253.jpg20200516_213014.thumb.jpg.f41a179d5c444605f8c8651352727448.jpg

Nice.

Remember that there are supposed to be graves at those headstones, so keep a little space between those to give that impression.

Have you seen Paris graveyards? Right on top of each other in some places. Also those areas are paved. It's a monument. I'm likely to put mini crypts in that area and have more space outside the fencing or in the secondary fence area. I'll be posting a pic when I set it all up (maybe for a game of Night of the Living Deadicide).

Normally, I'd agree.  But this small graveyard strikes me as a place where the departed slowly lose their flesh and then the bones are placed in an ossuary afterward.   Important family rests in the "big house" while distant cousins, proverbial black sheep, and mothers-in-law go outside to "wait" until ready for burial.

i stumbled across this neat article on social media. It seems doable enough - balsa, hydrogen peroxide +sun light, and marine epoxy?
Not huge application, but I suppose it would allow glass skyscrapers, greenhouses, and... mostly windows? Will post if I try. Please share if you try.

This year I'll be spending the week between Dec 25 and Jan 1 at home... like a lot of folks.   I'm using the time to finish up a few figures languishing on my paint table and prepare for a clean(er) start in 2021.

I'll get some photos up as I prep.  Right now I am planning to finish:

      1640 Cat dragon in tree
      3893 Mal, catfolk warrior
      3894 catfolk rogue
      3977 Mercurix, winged cat
      77576 female sphinx
      several Cats and Catacombs figures
a trio of Alkemy Khaliman Republic figures
some 3d printed tressym (winged cats)
whatever else strikes my fancy at the time

Paint along, or not, as it suits you.

I'm building my kid a shuttle from a page in the Young Scientist Book of Spaceflight that used to be mine.

The kid likes planes, and this is the closest I can get to that now.
I've already traced things out and have some foamcore. Will cut things out and maybe glue and prime tomorrow

Here is the extent of my Christmas decoration for this year. One festive dragon.
