Ever since the Reaper MSP Bones colors came out, I've wanted to do a mini using one of the blues as a basecoat.  Now that time has come!

I've mostly worked on her face and blocked in other colors to give a better idea of how her face will look.  And the answer for that is... not good.

The colors on her face are using a triad Anne mentioned on one of her streams in December (I think): Bright Skin Shadow, Rosy Skin, and Peppermint White.  The darker shadows are Violet Red and then Walnut Brown.  The Rosy Skin on her face looks awfully pale, especially when compared to her hands.  I have a lot more work ahead of me.  I'm beginning to dislike faces.

She also has tiny eyes.  I'm not happy with how I have painted them.  I'm really tempted to redo her eyes (or just strip the paint and start over) but I think I need to wait for a time when I am more... zen.  Stressed painting will not be helpful.

The current colors for everything else are:

  • Hair: 09136 Walnut Brown
  • Robe: 09419 Tropical Blue
  • Robe trim and cords: 09143 Yellowed Bone
  • Cloak: 09199 Russet Brown

I paint hair by starting at the deepest shadow and working up.  The planned midtone for her hair will be 09071 Chestnut Brown, although I may switch for a more golden or tawny shade of brown instead for hue contrast.  (Both Russet Brown and Chestnut Brown are red-orange in hue.)

Well, here we go.  Wish me luck!

After another two days of work, mostly on her face and eyes, here we are:

I spent some time last night working on her hair.  I think it still needs a little work but it's roughed in, if nothing else.

Next up will be either her dress or her cloak.

More contrast on the front-facing browns of the cloak might be good, but the dress and the rear-facing browns are splendid.

Thanks!  I think I improved them:

The head of the staff is supposed to be gold NMM but I don't think I've managed it.  I'm going to leave it for now.

I know the gem on the front side of her staff needs work.  The back side is better but still needs a little work.  I'm not sure if the gem on her dress is fine or if it needs work.  It looks fine in hand but it's not very distinct in these pictures.  (On the other hand, it's so small, will it show up if I make it brighter?)

What do you think?

I think due to the size it will be very difficult to make the gem on the dress stand out more.

If you really want that I would choose a contrasting colour like a bright red gem.

But I think it looks fine and it complements then dress.

I wouldn't touch it actually.
