You put your heads together.  The time is just after dawn.  Your beached group is at A.  The Jenivere is at B.   It is currently low tide.  You can tell there is a rocky cliff that it has come to rest at, wedged between the rocks and reef.  Each wave bashes the ship against the cliffs and reef in turn.  You think given enough time, maybe a few days to a week, the ship will be pulverized.

It is about 150 feet to the ship.  You could swim with a DC 20 swim check difficulty.  You can also climb along the rocks, all the way up to the ship then jump down onto the upper deck.  The rocks are jagged but wet, so the difficulty is DC 15.  As long as you are out of combat you can take 10 on these rolls.  If you have rope you could all tie on together if you choose to climb.   If you have a grappling hook, you’d be able to set it once you get to the area overlooking the upper deck, so that you can climb back out.

Before you go, you may want to speak to the other castaways for their advice or if they know anything about the contents or layout of the ship.

If you wait till high tide, the cliff part isn’t an option, and the swim is more dangerous.  There is another low tide in the early afternoon.

(Not as far out, or hard to reach as I had thought then. dc 20 is doable but risky, DC15 much more likely)
"I think we should make the effort as soon as possible, before the things we might be able to salvage is lost to the waves." (12 know nature for how long the low tide will last) "Lorak? Can you think of anything we might want to look for especially on board?"

While the group is discussing what to do, his mental timer goes off and he cautiously unburies the first of the crab creatures (11+4 acrobatics?) and goes to dole some of the food to the other survivors.  while dishing out the food, he asks about their skills and what they know of the ship.  "We're going to attempt a rescue and if there is anything important in the ship, we will try to recover it!" (diplomacy roll 4+1... guess they remember Arune's singing :poke:)

"Hmm, well, we have to see what the condition of the ship is. If we can make repairs and get her seaworthy and off the rocks that would be best. If not, well we might be here for quite some time, so anything that we can use to build shelter with; tools, rope, sailcloth and the like. The ship's dinghy if it survived would be useful. Also, while it's not much use here I suppose, the chest with the crew's payroll would be worthwhile, if for no other reason than if we are able to signal another ship, we could use it to purchase berth aboard it, if the captain is a mercenary type that is. And lastly, I'd like to find the captain's log, to see if it can help explain what got us here."

Aerys is a trim, athletic half-elf woman with short dark hair, tanned skin, and fierce blue eyes.  She dresses in tightly fitted black studded leather armor, and favors dark clothing and tricorn hats.

Gelik is a spry, energetic gnome with blond hair and a neat goatee.  He dresses in a noble fashion, but the ink stains on his fingers belie he is not of the nobility.

Ishirou is a rugged Tian man who is most likely younger than his weathered body and face would suggest.  He has graying hair worn back in a ponytail, and a scruffy beard.  His armor and clothing are well maintained, but of relatively low quality.  He wears a beautiful (not in the picture here) katana strapped to his back.

Perhaps the most peculiar castaway is Jask.  A middle aged plain looking Garundi man with hair starting to gray and watery eyes.  He is in ragged clothes, and his hands are manacled behind his back.  He has a sullen downcast look.

Sasha is a tall lithe red haired human with mischievous green eyes.  She has a Red Mantis tattoo on her back, and is missing her pinky finger of her left hand.

I'm pretty uncomfortable leaving folks out here to fend for themselves with only 1 weapon between them.  what do you say we all get closer to the wreck at low tide so no one is too far away.  there are two separate rumors of cannibals around here.  once can be coincidence, two or more usually means that people are disappearing and bones are showing up...

"We need to find out what happened to the ship and recover supplies but lets do it as close as we can to each other.  That said.."  and he dives into the pile of boxes and cloth the equipment was in.

with a perception check of 14+3=17 he starts looking and cataloging, as he puts it: useful vs firewood.

"Cannibals too?" The next words out of his mouth where not the fluid elven he uses when thinking out loud, but a more guttural orcish, and not fit for translation but he swiftly switches back to common "it seems we need to get ourselves some better form of shelter and safety then we will find on the beach. Something we can defend if we must."

Arune stops rooting around the boxes grabs a rock near the fire "From what Lorac and the other sailors tell this little island is a little taste of hell.  If we want any form or structure, we'll need to get to the southern point of the island where a lighthouse is said to exist" he sort of scratches his foot in the sand  "though that's also where the tales say one of the cannibal tribes live.  But staying on the shore is not a good option I heard the crew tell tales of ghosts and other restless dead who roam the beaches looking to take revenge for their loss on any living being that strays too close."  He brightens up a bit "how much is true, I don't know and I've never seen anything meaner then a bog zombie at home but we always had godhopper to chase them away.  Either way I would like to be off the beach before darkness falls of that's agreeable"  he looks hopefully at everyone.

5 hours ago, Dilvish the Deliverer said:

"I agree that following the rocks during low tide may be the best option.  I will try and keep up as best as I can."

"My concern is what happens to the rest of the castaways.  And Jask, why is it that you are in chains?"

The group of castaways seem uneasy about what to do.  No one knows each other well enough to really trust one another.  They warm up a bit at the cooked sea scorpion lobster meat.

You humbly help Jask to eat, which gets him to warm up a bit.  “I am a prisoner.  I was a fugitive from Sargava hiding in Corentyn.  My past finally caught up with me there.  The Jenivere’s captain accepted payment to bring me to Sargava.  But, I am an innocent man.  Now, I’m surely doomed.  They key to these damnable manacles is probably at the bottom of the sea.”  He looks down and gets quiet again.

After getting some food in them, the other four head to the gear pile to gather up their weapons and gear.  There are two bows, a small longsword, a rapier and kukri between them.

”We are not unarmed and not helpless,” says Sasha.  She gives a curious glance to Jask, then continues.  “But I agree we should seek shelter as soon as we can.  I can’t speak for the others, but I will stay here on guard while you try to get to our shipwreck.  Oh, and thanks for the hot meal” she adds almost as an afterthought.

"if the keys are gone, then we will find another way to get those manacles off you" He said to Jask. "I've already decided, I shall leave none behind on this island while I still draw breath to do something about it."  With those words he turned and followed after Lorak.
