Glitterwolf's 3D Printing Adventures

Aaannnddd It's not printing.

Will have to see if I can fix it.

Thinking of it...last time with the troubles after I fixed it all, I also changed the retraction speed to 100.

Today I reset that to 150 as I always had that setting.

But...I usually print with elegoo grey and now with Wan Hao.

Maybe I need to reset it to 100 again?

Last time the dolls printed well.

Dinner first.

Then cleaning the VAT.

Will test the screen and if that's okay then change settings and try again.

Might need to resupport though. Already sliced that file.

I know you're done with your vampire hunters build, but did you see that ogre vampire hunter one of the Patreons released? Wow.

If you mean 3Dartdigital...I'm guilty of acquiring it.

Also...the printer is now running and I can see that it prints.

Hopefully the prints will be complete and good.

I changed my settings back to my original ones..

What are we printing?

Well...

Witchunters actually, the Order needs more reinforcements.

I Won't print the base though, will make my own, I like square bases better.

The one in the weelchair and the dog are from Signum and the other one is from Dan Kelly

That's the one.

For me, that torch will be good practice for OSL.

I like that Signum mini.

The base for the wheelchair looks like a terrible place to be using a wheelchair, anyway. ::P:

But as a crazed, ancient Witchunter General, that figure is sweet! Maybe lose the arrow in the hat?

Trapped in the home office, and getting frothier with each breath. While his faithful dog sighs and snores. And chases rabbits in his dreams.

I don't mind round bases, but Grump hatez them, I think.

Signum also has this fellow -

image.png.a03efe929ccb96ae3445877a29ec0e5d.png

Which might be good as a younger version of the hunter in the wheelchair,  his son, or even his grandson.

Again with the round base - but I do like the clutter on the base.

That is a wonderful mini, you can expect to see several incarnations - he fits in booth the cops game and in The Blight.

@Glitterwolf I don't think that I had ever looked at Signum - but that hunter in a wheelchair has some great possibilities for games. (Again, both The Blight and the cops game. Thanks for this!

It might also be fun to do them as a warband in either Mordheim or Frostgrave.

I'm sure the old man tells himself that his faithful hound is chasing vampires in her sleep.

Thanks for letting me know about Glitterwolf's post.

Hate... is a strong word, but I am not overly fond of them - I have way too many on 1 inch ceramic floor tiles to switch to round bases.

The Auld Grump

I also have that mounted witchhunter.

With all the Witchhunters from Signum, Dan Kelly, Titanforge, EPIC, 3Dartdigital and the Paladins from heroes Infinite and the Rquiem Brotherhood from Artisan Guild I can actually build quite the army to counter the Undead.

@TheAuldGrump

There is also this great Wolfen Witchhunter from Signum

( do I have it?, yes I do..)

 On MMF.

This Witchhunter can be bought with several options.

That took some digging to find.

Not the model, the options.

I had to find a 3D image under Dan Kelly, not Lion's Tower.

On the other hand, the mercs by the same guy have a LOT of personality.

Yeah I used his name instead of the company's easier to find.

He has a lot of nice designs.

For my Lost World Project I build all sorts of Vampires/Werewolves/Witches and Demons etc. I figured I wanted a force to counter that.

The Order will battle all of these some are dedicated to hunt a certain type of monster others will take on anything.

Gives me an excuse to print/paint a lot of minis.

I got enough to choose from.

3Dartdigital also had a nice set in October:

And this guy from Great Grimoire also fits the bill

Plus the stuff in their welcome pack:

Managed to print Celine the Vampire and the Tomb from Great Grimoire.

Tomb came partly loose from the build plate, a little warped. But no big deal.

Also printed Dana the Vampire Hunter, however her dog, another version of her and her hand didn't print.

They came loose.

So another change in settings and now trying the Great Grimoire Presupported versions of those let's see.

I know one thing when I'm done with this bottle of Wan Hao I will return to Elegoo Grey.

I've had more failures and problems with this resin than I ever had with the Elegoo Grey.

Oh well.

Live and learn, try and try again, never give up, when the going gets tough the tough gets going etc etc...

Yep!

3DAD has that ogre.

Eight feet of vampire slaying muscle and bone.

With a scary assed 4 barrel scattergun.

Playing Mordheim tonight, so of anyone is playing witch hunters, we will let them know.

That doggo would make a good Scooby.

Hi, I want to start this to get me motivated to get some accountability and hopefully guilt myself into working. So here is the very first of hopefully many steps.

The first step is to prime the miniature, I've done that, the 2nd step? To photograph the miniature to capture the volumes of real light that shows where I want my light source. For this I want two light sources. So really that means I just used my computer screen and my ceiling light, adjust the miniature to taste and get the angle I want to set the light.

The screen light is whiter and will be the light from outside the window, the yellower ceiling light will be my tavern fire light and will be the primary light source.

The skin will be fairly shiny so this is pretty much a mandatory process to get those realistic sheens....because I'm literally stealing form reality it helps a lot. If I were a better painter I could fake the light sources with enough knowledge. Thankfully  I have some serious shadows on the model, and my mid tones will have a lot of room for blending.

The problem now? Picking my colors.

What do I know? I know the floor is wood colored and the axe/haft materials

I know that I'm going to want off white and pinks for eye whites and gums teeth etc.

The gold of the primer is actually a really beautiful color for a fantasy creature, so I might see if I can't keep that.

So Gold, pink, whites/off whites, and browns, I don't know if I want a two toned or patterned beholder. I think this is gonna be a challenge whatever I do. I think I want to go for a fleshy color

Wanted to try my hand at something a little different and bigger so I found something fun that I knew my daughter would appreciate.  I got a ton of hugs for it today, so I must have done alright.

Prime and initial zenithal was done by airbrush and in keeping with my current process a lot of acrylic mini paints (Vallejo, Reaper, WarColour and GW) glazed or dry brushed on followed by oil washes, then more acrylic dry brushes and then more oil washes.  I LOVE Nightmare Black!!

I wish I had kept it appart to paint it as the crossed legs made things complicated on more than a couple occasions.  Also should have painted the neck area the same colour as her leotard…. Not sure but I think it would have been better.   Base, cape, body and head were painted separately but I should have kept the hands, legs and boots to paint on their own.

close up of the books.  Doing the gold lettering AFTER I’d painted the rest of the base was not my best idea.. tried to give them a worn look.

lastly a quick shot of the base WIP with a Chaos Marine volunteer for scale.

      thanks for looking.

This is Miguel Zavala's redesigned Umber Hulk, printed on my Mars Pro and painted with Vallejo acrylics.

It's a monster I haven't used much, if at all, in my own campaign, but my favourite character of old, Sir Fnord the Pretty Neat died of them twice, both times by having his head ripped clean off.

I've got a dozen tiny minis to BUG you with today!

A few months ago I purchased these Hell Wasp prints for use as giant flies in Rangers of Shadow Deep.  The sculpts are from Rocket Pig Games and carefully printed at this delicate scale by K2C2 Creations.  The tiny size came in a set of 12 so I painted them all a little different to get some variety.

      Giant Flies

My original purpose for these guys was as flies in ROSD.  To give them some stability and variety I based them on 20mm bases. In each set of 3, one got based standing, one got based leaning, and a third was placed on higher ground.  This seemed to break up uniformity.  I also painted to different styles of flies.

The first was the House Fly

These guys are mostly grey with a bit of brown fuzz on their backs.
      More photos beneath spoiler:

The second set of flies was painted as Blow Flies

These guys are a bit more green.  Though having recently had an infestation of these guys, I wish I had made them more metallic.  Yuck.
      More photo below:

      Hellwasps/Stirges
Since I had so many of these guys, I decided to mix up the second half.

One set got painted Red to work as Red Paper Wasps, or as decent Stirge stand-ins.

I quite enjoy the little skull on the one base.
      More photos below:

And the final group got painted in classic Yellow Jacket stripes.

Bees?  BEES! Ready for a deadly stinging encounter.
      More photos below:

These guys were tiny and fragile and tedious.  I kept them simple to get through them all and they still used up all my painting time for a month.  Lost a few limbs while basing but hopefully the slightly larger bases will give me something easier to grab during games.  I wish I had stood back more while working on these and upped the contrast.  They're fine, but their details are so small that it would have been more worthwhile to get a stronger impact from arm's length.

What use would you have for these little critters?

Of the many busts I’ve printed/purchased lately, this one won out on the priority list.

Basecoats and metallics are a mix of acrylics (Reaper and Vallejo) and then a ton of layered oils with some subsequent acrylic highlights again.  Painted the eyes very faintly and then “washed them out” to give them that milky look but I feel I went too far as the iris/pupils are pretty much gone.    Otherwise, I’m quite happy with him other than the missed support nubs inside his “crown” that will taunt me forever.

      Thanks for looking.
