llamia medium for ... anything?

soooooo... here's the beginner-level question.

I do want to use more of the cheaty-technical paints like gloss paints, irridescent, metallics, etc.  buuuuuuuuut ... water doesn't behave ideally with them like other paints.  (lost some detail one one model I painted)

... would paint-grade thinners like llamia medium work?  or will i need other stuff for the special effects thick paints.

Thanks in advance

Using tools at your disposal is not cheaty. Use whatever gets the result you are looking for and you have available.

I haven't used lamian medium, but I do regularly use Vallejo Glaze Medium and Thinning Medium, and Reaper's Flow Improver. Experiment to see what works best for you. My thicker Vallejo, Kimera, and S75 paints behave well using mediums. Super thick, and I'll probably put a drop of flow improver in. I reach for Glaze Medium first for that purpose, and general thinning. More flowy paint often gets just water.

I don't think there is one thing that's going to work perfectly with every type of technical paint. I have airbrush medium, airbrush thinner, fluid matte medium, heavy gloss medium, and a selection of additives like flow aid and matting agent. If I had to pick just one for the paints you listed I'd probably say airbrush medium.

I usually use a mixture of flow improver and acrylic medium (I use the vallejo glaze medium still because i had a couple of bottles of it before I discovered reaper sells one too. When I run out I'll try reaper's.).  That said, usually I  use metallics straight, base coats and drybrushes, and then add color/shading with non-metallic glazes.
that being said, if you really want to try painting thinner with metallics... Vallejo also produces a metallic medium, which is an acrylic medium with mica already in it. It can be mixed with normal colors to impart some sheen, or used to thin paints that already have mica in them to preserve the sheen while making the paint more translucent.
