Cranky Dog 31457 Report post Posted May 27, 2020 5 hours ago, Inarah said: May 27 What is something about yourself you think most people don't know? Hmm, I already talk very little about myself, be it friends or family. Almost no one outside the forum, including my family, knows I collect and paint miniatures. None of them are really geeks or artistically inclined, and since I live pretty far away, when I do see them, my hobbies are never a conversation piece. Other little known things: I've visited over a dozen countries. I lived in France as a teenager for about a year. I'm a cousin two times removed of former Canadian prime minister Jean Chrétien (my maternal grandmother's cousin, she didn't like him). I've had open heart surgery, have a mechanical heart valve, and a pacemaker. None of it is apparent unless I'm bare chested and have my scar visible. For someone who is single with no kids, I am surprisingly good with children. I'm the one grownup children find approachable in gatherings.

I'm a man so I don't generally share that in addition to painting minis I also knit and crochet a little bit. Being gay helps, it tends to cut down on the stupid questions like "You knit? What are you, some kind of homo?" 13

Considering how many Getting To Know you threads, you'd think that there's little that people don't know about us. Well, I'll tell you: I've Liked every single Getting To Know You post ever since I came to the forums. 9 1

There may be evidence that this occurred to me at a similar age - Almost no-one knows this, and I'd forgotten myself until you mentioned you having this experience.
TGP 75112 Report post Posted May 28, 2020 22 hours ago, Inarah said: May 27 What is something about yourself you think most people don't know? I might have saved (or more accurately played a tiny part in saving) 192 people’s lives. A thing I am pretty sure most people do not know is that when someone donates blood, the blood bank splits that “Unit” up into three components: Red Blood Cells, Platelets, and Plasma. Potentially helping three different patients. I have donated so many times that they keep track of the Gallons I have donated. (One gallon is = eight Units/Pints.) I am up to 8 gallons, so 8 x 8 x 3 = 192 (potentially). Also, units of blood went universally metric some years ago. I think the standard is now 455ml or 450ml, but I know it went to being denominated in milliliters. But when I started donating it was still Pints. 21 hours ago, TripleH said: If they don't know by now, then they fail the "need to know" minimum standard. 19 hours ago, Glitterwolf said: Why, that's classified information citizen! And There’s ^ That. I try to always remember rule four. Rule 4: The best way to keep a secret? Keep it to yourself. Second best? Tell one other person - if you must. There is no third best.

Since we cosplay regularly here, that is hard to narrow down to the most fun. I enjoyed the week working at day camp in the nature lodge dressed as Mother Nature. The kids crafts and animal handling were a great compliment to my garb.
