Nemesis Lockdown is first standalone expansion to Board Game hit - Nemesis (BGG rating #35 overall, #9 thematic). Lockdown will bring the same cinematic, thematic Sci-Fi horror feel to totally new setting: Base on Mars. It will come with lot of new, fresh ideas and content while keeping some of the core Nemesis mechanics that makes every play an unforgettable story to be told.

Nemesis: Lockdown

I should have known when they asked us to prepare the landing platform. There are only two reasons to make a night sample transfer. It’s either too urgent to wait, or it’s a black op. Both spell trouble.

My survival instinct, honed by twenty years of work in the Sample-Return Receiving Facilities, was screaming, considering the rumours that reached even our remote site.

Maybe if I bailed right there, I wouldn’t be crouching in a dark lab, sweaty palms clutching a scalpel, and this damned soft voice repeating over my head: “Containment Breach, Containment Breach…”

Things only got bleaker when they told us there would be human BSL-5-ET subjects coming. Extra-terrestrial samples and living people don’t usually mix. They SHOULD NEVER mix. Something went really bad out there, and we got caught in it.

When Martinsen and Sovich processed the first sample, I only caught a peek from behind the armored glass. There was one word on the container.

“Nemesis.”

I wasn’t there when the actual breach happened. There were screams over the intercom. The main power went out. Soon, I saw Martinsen and one of the human subjects running to me from the isolation ward elevator, as if the devil himself chased them. I’ve seen it for a split second, before they were caught. I’d rather take my chances with the devil, than with the thing that took them.

Now, it’s been fifteen minutes since I last heard any shots. The pain in my mangled leg subsides. I get up and slowly make my way to one of the security stations. Am I the only one left? No, thank god! Sovich is still kicking. I have her on a live feed from the main terminal. She’s…

Changing the logs! Switching her name for mine. Frigging rat! When the board learns we had a containment breach, there will be hell to pay, and she wants to make sure the bill is on my name.

Now, she turns towards the main console. In the middle of it, under the protective glass, is the A3-5 button, a big chunk of red plastic. They told us it enables the “Code Red Emergency Protocol” but we had no clearance to know what the protocol actually is.

Don’t do it, Sovich. You might just nuke us. Don’t…

Of course she does. She wants to play the good girl, an upstanding citizen.

Well, there’s still time to fix everything. No one will call until morning. We’re on a dark side of the planet now, blocking all signals. I need to get topside, to the secondary console in the other building. Re-write the logs, access the classified procedures, and see what new trouble she got us into.

The only things between me and my salvation is a broken airlock, a long stretch of hellish surface, and enough gamma radiation to hard-boil an egg. I’m betting these things can’t walk outside.

That would be too frigging unfair...

I'd like to imagine the original Nemesis project is fully shipped. I've had my copy for ages now.

Not one of their last three projects. Checking the comments though it looks like some people are still reporting their games as just arriving within the past couple weeks.

If they are talking about Tainted Grail: I'm still waiting and probably will be waiting for quite some more time for the mounted heroes ... that's why I said "not fully shipped". Base game, maybe some other stuff, but not fully.

So people are still waiting for Tainted Grail (at least some of the things, estimated delivery was August 2019), Etherfields (not even remotely close to shipping as far as I can see) and Great Wall.

As I wrote I'd like to imagine. Every time I see an update about Nemesis delivery I think "haven't they managed to send them all yet?" I got my copy of Nemesis quickly but I'm still waiting for Tainted Grail because I was too poor at the time to afford split shipping.

How does the original game actually play?  I watched a video of a game and it seemed rather dull.  But maybe that was just the people I was watching.  Seemed like a lot of running away, and that just doesn't sound cinematic to me.

In my experience it plays quite fun. I took it down to my local club and we all were able to relax and enjoy playing it for an evening including players who usually baulk at anything someone got on kickstarter. Those same players even said they'd enjoy playing this one again at some point. Of course we could all tell it was inspired by the Alien franchise but it wasn't trying to hide that so we just enjoyed it. Kind of like watching a B movie that isn't trying to pretend it's something that it's not and is just embracing it's nature.

Now one player did get a lucky objective. He was able to just head straight to an escape pod and sit in it for most of the game. We had some hilarious stuff like ... there was a fire in one of the rooms on the ship. The fire began to spread and then the ship's fire station/fire control room caught fire. My crew member needed to walk through a burning room on very low health carrying a fire extinguisher to get to the second burning room which was the fire control station where I could extinguish four burning rooms at once if I managed to put out the flames there (which all involved me needing to survive the first burning room in the first place). I think at some point someone started the ship's self destruct sequence as well. There were also a few jokes about the scientist being in a wheelchair and needing his disabled access ramps to get through doors.

There is a lot of running away. There's a difference between cinematic and heroic. Think Alien or Alien 3. Not Aliens (the action movie one that wasn't really much of a horror film). You can fight the aliens but ammunition is limited so you want to be selective about when you fight and when you run away. As you move about the ship you generate noise tokens. These do not represent the sound of your movements. They represent the sounds the aliens are making as they roam the ship. Too much sound in one direction means there's an actual alien coming from that direction. The aliens can also use the vents as well. Alien stats vary as they're constantly changing and evolving. If an alien crawls back into the vents it's simply removed from the board. If you encounter another alien later on it could be the same one or another one entirely. It all depends on the kind of story you want to tell.

Which video did you watch? I know some are boring. The Beasts of War gameplay video was quite a funny one. They clearly enjoyed the game for what it was kind of like that whole B movie embracing it's true nature thing I mentioned earlier.

I think it's one of those games where you get out of it what you put into it. If the people playing get into it then it would be fun, but if they just play it it will fall flat. It's also a semi co-op, which means it can break fairly easy if people "don't play it right"
