Is it still hump day today if it's a shortened work week?

Yes.

Congrats @Morihalda!

@Kuroneko Keeping my fingers crossed that everything comes back with the best possible results.

There was a town hall at work this evening... With the cancellation of the NY Marathon, they announced that they will begin to lay off and furlough about 1/3 of staff come August 1. Notifications will go out July 20th. Being in finance, I don't *think* I'll be in the 1/3 that gets cut, but I'm also the newest member of the team, aside from the new VP, and I'm gone before she is. So... Fun weeks ahead. Even if I'm not picked, friends will be.

Spent a good chunk of today getting needles poked in me. And I didn't even get any shiny souvenirs! I went in to the neurologist for trigger point injections, which as far as I can tell is just lidocaine injected into areas that get painful and cause migraines. I was supposed to have this a month ago but the doctor's schedule was too full. We were able to do proper spacing this time. I go back Monday to get my Botox injections because insurance won't pay to have both done in one appointment which seems backwards to me buuuut whatever. Since I had a migraine when I came in they gave me a shot of anti-nausea meds and Torodol. It helped somewhat but I've still got a pretty bad headache.

Spending tomorrow making phone calls, painting, and D&D. I'm only excited for 2 out of the 3.

:grumble grumble:

So, I work at a daycare. I spend all day taking care of babies, observing their behaviour, and monitoring them for signs of distress.

Apparently, their parents trust me to do this.

Also apparently, they don’t trust me, because after I told one parent her son had diarrhea and seemed to be becoming lethargic, I got talked to. Because, apparently, saying he has diarrhea and seems to be becoming lethargic means I’m diagnosing him.

Of course, they can’t have the day care workings diagnosing their kids. That might mean we have brains or something.

It’s okay for us to watch and teach their kids, but if we show any kind of intelligence, then we’re freaking the parents out. <_<

WTF?

Observations aren't diagnosis.

I'm betting if you didn't mention the diarrhea, they would have been mad about that, too.

Well, I supposed to say things like “his tummy seems to be bothering him” or “he’s been pretty tired”. Stupid vague crap that doesn’t tell doctors anything.

I’m sorry, but as a mom, I want particulars. If my baby had a “runny BM” I was to know the color, consistency, and the smell. I want to know if she was just tired, or if she was listless and lacking energy in everything she did.

It’s obnoxious to me that we’re expected to use this dumbed down language. As though we’re all too stupid not to recognize symptoms and be able to communicate them accurately.

Haven't been able to find much hobbying motivation myself recently either.

On the plus side, at least I've been getting back into the writing the last few days. Got the outline refined for the second chapter, and have been making some progress getting that written out.

Currently the characters have wrapped up the first encounter with the entity, and while traveling to a local Denny's were almost run off the road by one vehicle being chased by another, a light foreshadowing of the gang war they're about to encounter in a few more chapters. One character, the shady dealer type has ditched the rest of them to make his meet, and the rest have decided to go to Lew's Drive Inn in Batavia, since the Denny's has a reputation as a gang joint, and they're not wanting to be where possible retaliation may take place for the guy who was being chased. (Of course they're going to have to go to the Denny's, to pick up their shady friend, so they'll be having an encounter anyway, but they don't know that yet...)

As of page 54, they're plotting to all skip from their schools in the morning the next Friday, to prepare for the second attempt at banishing the entity. The main character is planning this all out with the detail of a bank heist, which has been rather fun to write, showing his knack for organizing criminal activity in a rather harmless way so far, but also a nice foreshadowing of what he is going to be getting up to in later stories...

I wasn't originally going to have them go anywhere except the Denny's, so everything from page 46 onwards kinda just came out on it's own, but it's working out well so far, showing a bit of backstory to the doomed relationship of Del and Lynn, allowing Ben to show a bit of an old school side to his personality, since the place is straight out of Happy Days, and it gives a good location for the characters to meet, since Aurora is going to get very hot for them over the next few weeks.

These are definitely our weekend plans.

Hugs and thanks, y'all. I know times have been incredibly tough and we've been very lucky here.

Give the kitty a pet and a warm spot in the sun for me.  I know this can be hard to deal with (Says the guy who had a wheelchair for his basset!)   I wish they could stay with us forever.  Here's to hoping that she will pull through the procedure fine and there will be a simple solution found and easily corrected

Thank you so much everyone! Truly the best result that I can hope for is that they find absolutely nothing, in which case it'll be the most expensive negative I'll ever pay for. She had another awful coughing fit this morning, so any doubts I have about whether or not to go ahead with the procedure are pretty much gone at this point. I just wish they could take her in sooner ::(:

On the plus side, today is her last day of antibiotics and we'll be able to go back to her normal medication routine from tomorrow. Which means I don't have to pop back in from work to give her the double dose of tiny tablets that she can spit out faster than I can get them in her mouth!

She's currently sitting in the sun, watching some goldfinches outside on our feeders. Skritches have been given on behalf of the forum and she seems very pleased with her current situation. Thanks again everyone.
