We don't let Canadians in space do we?  Or are there aliens that need apologizing to?

It's more like the Canadians decline of their own will until certain conditions are met. They refused to engage in flight until after a moose had been successfully crossed with a pegasus, thus creating the Royal Canadian Mounted Air Force. Once they figure out how to get a moose capable of escaping the gravitational pull of the earth, and survive in vacuum, they'll begin seeping their way into the depths of space...

Sure they do, and make them Commander of the ISS on top of it. You may not realize it, but we are capable of much more than just saying Sorry and Eh.

They also make an excellent Coureur Des Bois (Maple Cream Liqueur)

Boo that the launch was aborted, but everything was great except for the weather.

I do struggle not to giggle every time they call them Bob and Doug.

Speaking  of them, anyone see this:

Especially since this will be for a front-desk position at a speech therapy clinic (which is ironic in ways I'll elaborate on later).

Didn't you also go to school for speech therapy, or something?

Actually, I thought a complete lack of social skills was a basic job requirement for a front-desk position, lol...  ::D:

Well, this is a pleasant surprise! I have a job interview on Friday! :bday: I wasn't expecting to get an interview anywhere for another few months, so I'm pretty excited.

On the flip side, this means I need to immediately shove my circadian rhythm back in line with the rest of the daywalking folks. It also means I'm gonna have to figure out how to people again, like, super fast.  Especially since this will be for a front-desk position at a speech therapy clinic (which is ironic in ways I'll elaborate on later).

Not having a paid job for the past few years, and basically no in-person social interaction for the past few months, has poorly prepared me for this, but I'm gonna do my best!

Huzzah!

Good luck to you!

Oh, some of us know full well the capabilities of Canada...

While the majority of General Ross's army that sacked Washington DC August 24 1814 after the Battle of Bladenburg were British regulars freed up by the capture of Napolean, amongst them was a small regiment of Moose Cavalry, under Stockton who were formed of what would later be known as Canadians.

These were attached to the 1/44 regiment and it was their thunderous nightmare of a charge that broke and routed the Maryland Militia under Schutz and Ragen. So devestating was this charge it was compared to a barrage of congreve rockets. Later historians misread the original accounts, leading to the widespread belief that it had been a rocket barrage, not the moose responsible for the turning of the battle.

Moose Cavalry, while a battle winning weapon wherever it was deployed, was limited by the difficulty of the ritual to appease the moose, and the fact that there were few people the moose would put with, let alone allow themselves to be ridden by. It is believed that the Canadian habit of constant apology is descended from a garbled understanding of part of this ritual. In isolated sections of Canada, as late as 1974 the true version of the ritual was said to still be practiced on occasion, although it is considered one of the highest of state secrets.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Airforce uses a different technique, since the crossbreeding with the pegasus lowers somewhat the demonic aggression of the moose. This allows for each pilot to be individually bonded to his beast.

  I have many fond childhood memories of The Great White North album. My siblings and I ran around talking in outrageous faux-Canadian accents so much that my mom eventually confiscated the CD and told us to knock it off. So we restricted our "beauties" and "take offs" to when she was out of earshot.

I did indeed; I've got a Bachelor's in speech-language pathology (plus a year of experience in a Master program, which I unintentionally quit due to various reasons).

But it gets better: the same clinic also has a position open for an SLP-Assistant (which I'm technically qualified for), so on a whim I applied to that too. And because both applications are through ZipRecruiter, I get an email every time an application is viewed. Both applications were viewed three times (the last time was right before the interview email lol), and this is the position they decided to interview me on. Which is absolutely cool with me! Honestly until I saw the SLP-A listing, I hadn't even considered looking for employment as one, since I had assumed that everybody wants full SLPs. And it HAS been 10 years since I got my degree.

But, yeah, it's just super weird that all three of my disparate educational paths (speech therapy, secretary-ish (from various volunteer experiences) and medical coding/billing) would converge at this one place. Life's funny sometimes. :upside:

Indeed.

Why should Santa have the only flying mammals of the deer family in the world?

This might be why you got the interview. A front desk person who can translate everything from Specialized Medical into Layman and then back into Specialized Medical is amazingly valuable.

I tend to make a habit of avoiding that part of town.  Roger's Place is literally a block off of sketch central downtown...  That and driving in that part of town you can be easily distracted or caught off guard, because soooo many of the ad panels are right on the very edges of the building, and the ads scroll every few seconds, which can really throw you off when you're trying to look a block ahead to see how the traffic (and lights) are...

The ads are part of a scheme by the local necromancers. Kinda like the art of shipwrecking updated and transfered to an urban environment. It's how they gather plunder to pay for their research materials and experiment subjects. It's a result of the state sponsorship of necromancy being eliminated sometime in the mid 90s.

(To our Canadian friends, I realize it may seem as if I've singled you out today, but the theories are flowing like water into my mind for some reason. Look at it this way, even with the cabal of necromancers and weaponized moose, you're still far ahead of the theories I come up with regarding Wisconsin.)

Water on the Brain helps to explain a lot of this. ::P:
