Randomness XVII: The Madness of the Quorum

Recommended Posts

Two weeks ago, I couldn't help a customer because she was using a Win XP computer that hadn't had Internet Explorer updated at all. As a result, even though TeamVeiwer was working, the site router is blocking the very outdated version of IE from even going online (this is a good thing, IMO).  So I told her she's going to have to get a newer computer and come back because I can't do the programming without being able to get the browser online.

She calls me yesterday morning, says she has a new computer and asks if I'll be available if she goes to site. I said yes, and she said "Great, I'll head over there." She never calls back.

This morning, there are three voice mails from her saying "Hey, I'm on site, please call me back."    All of the voice mails came in starting after the end of the business day. I call her back, and we set a specific appointment time today.  I call her at the appointed time, she gives me her new TeamViewer number.  I log in, and guess what?

I'm logged into the same Windows XP computer.

I got a really weird message from one of my cousins this morning. He just like messaged me like we had just talked. We haven't talked in 2.5ish years going by the time stamp on our last FB message. He mentioned that he appreciated the Xmas card but I haven't sent one out in 2 or 3 years now. He also mentioned my Sibling which that whole bit is another can of worms I won't get into on here.

We're not even friends on FB anymore. We have/had some very radically different ideas on politics that I found inexcusable so I quietly unfriended him probably about the time of our last messages. I'm not sure if I even should respond. I'm very confused.

If it matters, I had to first ignore for 30 days & then finally delete a family member who political agenda was getting more then I wanted to deal with. I'm a independent voter when it come to sides but his just getting annoying. I hate doing that, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

different people have different experiences.  I have not had this experience.  the only one that managed to offend anyone is my FIL and my son, mainly because both of them are way to sensitive to each other.  either one would forgive if the other would apologize.

Anyway, my initial response would be to hope that he has regretted his political decisions and is now looking for a quite way to reintegrate but I am a trusting soul and I usually wind up believing that everyone would come to their senses if they actual think about what they are doing. (yea, yea, I know I live in a world of disappointment).  you really do have to look at how comfortable you are with restarting conversations and decide from there.

Today the nail that has the outside temperature sensor fell out, and a screw that holds the arm for my fan’s oscillating mechanism fell out.

I think the universe is trying to tell me I’ve got a screw loose, but it’s a little late for that obvious revelation.

Please tell me yo ugot to bill more for such...

I'll get to bill something.   Fortunately, she did have another laptop with her this time - a Win 8 one, but it worked for my needs.

Not finished with the issue. I'm already an hour into it - wouldn't have taken that long to get to where we are, but she kept "breaking" other things every time I asked her to do something.  Like at the start she unplugged power to the very piece of equipment I needed to log into in order to plug that XP computer in.  Hit a block though -  It appears their 5 port network switch has 2 dead ports. They have to buy a new one before we can continue.  They only need 4 ports, so finding out that the "spare" port was already bad was very annoying.  After I discover that, she says "Oh yeah, this got wet a while back and the port went bad."   Like, why didn't you replace it then?

I sent her a link on one to buy and told her "splurge the extra dollar for the 8 port one"

I half expect that she'll get the five port one.

Rice Krispy treats with hot dogs.....mix RKT with chunks of hot dogs. Add in mustard & ketchup & your good to go for breakfast!

I gave you a confused smily only because we don't have a barfing one.

I like all those things, but together I think they'd be pretty foul.

The cats are all up in my business today. One just wants all the loves, one wants to play (and knock things over), and the other is insisting that he be allowed in the unfinished storage part of the basement (he's not, we'd never see him again). I am unpacking, so all the new smells and things moving around.

And empty boxes  cat traps

FTFY.::D:

Just spent 30 minutes on the phone with another one of the company techs  - he was asking me for advice on how to diagnose the cause of a specific problem with minimal assistance from the site owner/manager.  I think he just called more to vent than really needing help.

Seems the owner/manager was annoyed enough at the problem to call, but not annoyed enough to do any troubleshooting.

Every time the tech asks him to do something he gets more annoyed. "Can't you guys just fix this from there?"

Possibly - but first we need to identify which of the 15+ possible causes this problem can have.

Unless you'd just prefer to buy an entirely new system? Cause we're good with that solution, too.

So today I started detailing a story idea I had recently. It started off about being a tale of some five-or-so deep sea divers searching for the wreck of a long-lost ship that supposedly had a mysterious and valuable cargo onboard, but sunk before anyone got to know what it was.

Some fifteen minutes in, now I've got dark deity-like characters and zombies in it.

Geez.
