Back from the vet with the pathology report for some lumps on my dog's neck. Looks like they are just lipoma, which is good, but we're still going to get a surgical consult since they are in the area of her jugular. Want to make sure she's well taken care of, not even 3 years old yet, but we keep in touch with the breeder (who keeps in touch with everyone she gives her pups to) and learned one of her littermates already passed due to bone cancer.

The cat's visit, on the other hand, did not go smoothly. Was ok for the vaccines and physical exam, but even on a dose of sedative he refused to let them trim his nails. The archkitty Gabriel is just too powerful. Perhaps an agent of M.E.O.W. could give a talking to my cat and the need for good nail hygiene?

My spray sealer turned and I didn't find out until after ruining the work I put into the Dreadmere Duskwarden and ranger....what is wednsday the new monday now....

Reaper Brush on Sealer could rescue it.

I have had this once, applied the brush on directly over the grainy spray on and it fixed it.

You might have a new Netflix series idea if you act quick enough.

<shaking my head>
Watching an email argument between another tech and a site.

1. Site owner claims she didn't get the paper rolls she ordered and paid for when she bought some other parts, and wants the paper or a refund.
2. Tech can't find any record of an order for paper, only the parts.  Invoice shows she was charged for only the parts. He can't find any other recent invoices for paper.

3. He asks her for a copy of the invoice or some other proof she paid for this missing paper.

4. Owner says she never got an invoice, but she knows she paid for the "missing" paper and wants it or a refund.

They've looped through steps 3 & 4 several times now.

The Saga continues!

After silence from her on Monday and Tuesday, the Owner sent in a scan of her packing list  from her last order "See, the paper isn't on here!"
Tech sent back copy of Invoice for that packing list "See, the paper isn't on here either!"

it was me. I did it.

Seriously - this is me today:

Customer: Can you dial into this site at this number and do X for me?

Me: Sure <tries, can't get in>. That number is not working.
Customer: Are you sure? I just tested it.
Me: <tries again, still can't get in> Still not working.
Customer: Are you sure?
Me: <triple checks, discovers that I made two different typos.> Well crap, my fault.

For mine, it went on a few times, I checked with their shipping and receiving, they had no idea...

Boss after he gets out of conference call, calls me to confirm what I'd texted him, and that he'd talked with Calgary about address accuracy.  Then he promptly cancelled the invoice, because no point billing a customer for something they never ordered in the first place...

On the other hand, our driver supervisor is all "whys this one in overflow?" won't answer his phone, and didn't properly read the text messages I'd sent, and kept asking if the customer didn't want the product or what... And I'm just sitting there staring at my phone thinking "I've said four times they didn't order it, why are you asking if they didn't want it..."

Edit: on a totally unrelated note, I'm going to need to get my new desk sorted out sooner than later - I'm running out of places to put things again!  And secondly, I also have that darn" enter closes your keyboard" annoyance on mobile, ever since Samsung ran an update...

Urgh... I hadn't thought of that.

I am feeling a bit blergh again this morning, so maybe it's something I should look in to.

It could be nothing. We encounter virus every day on every thing, even the air we breathe.  Sometimes the body has to react to them and we feel a bit tired or "off" for a few days and it passes.  If you get more symptoms, of course, get checked out. Fever seems to be the key symptom, in combination with others.

Yay for work Zoom meetings. This one I'm just a passive observer in a continuing education program. I actually find stuff for my job quite interesting, but in reality, we're talking about building components, deferred maintenance, and financial analysis for saving to replace those components as they wear out.

Sounds like my job at the moment.

Working out how many different items (software/apps/systems etc) make up the 'ecosystem' that we work within - with the stated aim of trying to rationalise things (overall aim is to save money in the long term). So far we're up to 87 separate items - yes we're going to a stupid level of detail, but the ecosystem has built up over the past 30+ years...and I'm sure if we go digging enough we will find code that is still hanging around since the beginning!

Of course, to work out what these systems actually do, and how they interact, means we have to interview people in the building who use them, and in most cases there'll be at least three separate people we need to talk to about each system (end user, developer/sysadmin, management).

Sometimes I get to help other people deal with the head banging stuff:

Car Wash User to Car Wash Owner: "You ripped me off. I was only here on Monday for an $11 wash. Yet there is a $20 charge on here too!" <sends car wash owner screen shots of checking account transactions>
Car Wash Owner to me <after he can't appease customer>: "Kristof65, Help!"

This one was fun. The screen shots showed she had definitely been charged $11 and $20, and it was definitely the car wash owner's merchant account.  But looking around on the transaction history showed only the $11 transaction - on Sunday afternoon, not Monday evening like she claimed.  That part is not unusual, weekend charges often show up on statements on Mondays and people get confused.

So where did the $20 come from?  Start looking around, and lo and behold, there is a $20 transaction on Sunday morning - lucky for me, it's the only $20 transaction in the last week.  It's not the same card number, but based on the card prefix, it was issued by the same bank.

Meaning it was most likely another card drawing from the same account - such as husband and wife. So I tell this to the car wash owner.

I'm guessing we're talking about someone who didn't ask their spouse or child about the charge first.  The other possibility is that the bank screwed up and withdrew the funds from the wrong account. I'm guessing that's not what happened, though.

I'm a loan officer. So, part of my job is to complete that kind of analysis to ensure that my borrowers have enough cash coming in to not only pay their loan back, but also do the other things they need to do during the loan period (like pay their bills) so they don't come back to us in 6 months or 2 years needing to repeat the process. More loans are good, but I'd rather my borrowers be financially stable because that makes them good loans. Many of my borrowers generally don't plan adequately for the future. If they did, they wouldn't need me. It's like you and your house, if you own one. You know in a certain number of years you're probably going to need a new roof. If you save little by little every year, you can pay for that new roof no problem. If you don't save and wait until you need a new roof, that bill is going to hurt or you might not be able to do it on your own. Occasionally, I'll have a borrower that had an unexpected emergency come up, but in general, its the ones that don't save that need me. So, the seminar was talking about services that help them budget how much to save, how to save it, and plan for those expenditures.

It's very interesting to see how industries can overlap in these basic concepts.

Or just wait for a hailstorm and have insurance pay to replace a 98-year-old roof :-P

Unfortunately our industry tends to work on funding cycles, and when specific funding is available work is done on a system, but if no specific funding (or there aren't any significant security concerns) the systems are pretty much ignored except for critical issues...regular ongoing maintenance and upgrade cycles would save money in the long run, but that isn't how things work

There are a few areas where we have 2 or 3 (or more) systems all doing very similar things, simply because the money was available to do task a, then money came available to do task b, but no-one looked to see if they could save money (or provide a better product) by upgrading the work from task a, so they built from scratch, resulting in two endpoints from one system that do exactly the same thing, just with different data...

Yep. I tell so many of my car wash owners the same thing.

It's sad the number of them who have obsolete equipment that can't be repaired any more who don't have the money to replace them yet. Even though I've been telling them for years it's not a matter of if they'll have to replaced it, merely when.
