Randomness XVII: The Madness of the Quorum

Recommended Posts

I need to walk the dogs.

All I can hear from my window is a police helicopter overhead and sirens up by the park a block away.

I don't really want to go outside right now. The NYPD isn't exactly acting friendly these days (not that they ever did).

Discovered a funny little quirk of social distancing and masks. Had to make a quick run to the hardware store today. Stood in line about 6 feet from everyone else, all of us in masks, for about ten minutes. When I got to the cashier I looked back and noticed the guy standing behind me had a charity bike ride shirt on from a very specific and not well attended event, not a shirt you see every day. Then I took in the size and shape and general baldness of the guy behind me and said "Daryl?" Guy looked me over and said "Tom?" Turns out it was a fairly good friend and we'd been standing next to each other the whole time without realizing it. I'd even walked past his wife who was watching their bikes out front of the store on the way in. This is making me wonder if I've not recognized folks before. Now I'm going to be unintentionally eyeballing folks trying to figure out if I know them.

I don't have much trouble recognizing who's who, mask or not....but unless I've given them a name I never remember what it is. The same goes for others recognizing me, I tend to make an impression it seems, for good or ill.

I've been watching the same sort of thing on the local news all day.  I worry for friends who live in the area (had some over eager protesters with a gun driving around their neighborhood)  and friends who have businesses downtown.

We had a nice walk around our own quiet neighborhood after dinner. The caution tape has been taken off the playground equipment and there were a good number of kids out.

Had to rush into my doctors Friday night to check my lab results. Cholesterol is high. Of course it was. It always has been, now I am medicine for it.

Just another fail in the genetic lottery.

Typical weekend, spent all day landscaping the yard yesterday and working out to make a tiny bit of progress, sweated like crazy.

Went inside. No hot water. Water heater broke. Spent today picking up groceries and meeting up with water guy.

Daughter had a sliver that took two days to take out, rained all day today so no BBQ.

Can't wait to get the trashfire I maintain in exchange for money tomorrow.

I make decent money, for a law abiding citizen.

I wish I had more to give to people trying to keep afloat in the storm.

If I can't do it well, I don't think anyone can.

The bubble wants to pop
So I'm about to, I'm about to, I'm about to drop
And my heart sings....

So, I was planning on painting this weekend, but boy, is Assassin's Creed Origins enjoyable.  Very enjoyable.

Even more enjoyable with a nice rainstorm out the window!

one thing i really like about Origins is that Bayek is truly an honorable, good guy. Like, most Assassin's Creed protagonists are kind of flawed people, with greed, or selfishness, etc, being a big goal. Black Flag is probably one of the worst ones, being an outright pirate, but Bayek is a caring, honorable fellow truly trying to do his best to save people

that and i can have a camel. This was my camel

I love this picture but just looking at it makes me want to sneeze. Allergies are weird.

I can relate to that- my hands get itchy when I smell Greenstuff, even if I'm wearing gloves

Excellent weather here as well, grey, cloudy, and Falkreath-like.

It seems that something has awakened the muse, so I managed to get some writing done last night. The story I was working on a couple months ago, I managed to revise a bit of the first encounter with the entity and start getting down the aftermath before the inspiration petered out.

Or so I thought, about an hour later I found myself cranking out a rough first draft for a middle part of book 4, about 30 pages worth, mostly inspired by my attempt to try and set down just how exactly vampirism and necromancy work in my deranged little setting. Which once my characters started speaking, quickly turned into a lore dump on other topics, a segment from some other antagonists, me accidentally figuring out how to incorporate some characters from book 2 into things, and a cozy domestic quarrel over just what constitutes "crimes against food" when attempting banana bread.

As if that wasn't enough, my mind shifted gears again and I found myself with a page and a half from book 3, going into one of the secondary antagonist's response to her failed attempt to summon a wendigo against the main character and some interesting tendrils into how to tie her into the cult of mammon, and some ideas as to make her more well rounded as a character.

The "gardener" philosophy of writing doesn't usually work for me all that well, too easy to go off track and write myself into corners, but it seemed to go alright in this instance, not that my brain gave me much choice in the matter.

Now the challenge of the day shall be to see if I can get back to the painting table after my nap....

You know, my favorite thing about Mortal Kombat is how everyone works together to stab each other in the back and bring about the worst possible ending. It’s really deeply impressive how stupid they all are

should I take this to mean you just played the mk11 dlc?

Spoiler

and chose the Shang Tsung ending?
