On one hand, it’s property I may visit once or twice ever as I go to ReaperCon, plus there’s no way the wife will want to move somewhere so humid even if she can then have the herd of beagles she wants. But, I can easily pay the property taxes, more than likely, and it was my great-great grandparent’s land. I’m fine with it being a wild place for the animals. May even make it a wintering home (avoids the humidity), if there is a farmhouse and it can be saved. Plus, I won’t need the cash for anything since I am nearing the point where a job isn’t necessary. Curious as to The Collective’s thoughts. Honestly. I agree with pretty much everyone else; take the land.

Pegazus
Thanks for all the comments on the land. Managed to find it on the county assessors’ website. Property taxes are $7 a year, and the land itself is valued at less than the cost of a new car. I’ll email my aunt tonight and see if she’s willing to let me have it in lieu of cash.

You can always sell the land later on if you and the Mrs. decide it's not a good option for you. This is my thought also. You mentioned the possibility of a farmhouse. If this is the case, is it in the realm of the possible to consider it as a possible source of income through rental/lease of either the house or the arable land for crop production? Even if it only carried the costs of Property Taxes and maintenance, as has been pointed out, they just don't make more land. {Unless you live on a Volcanic Island, which carries its own set of interesting possible scenarios]. There are few places where one can talk hobby and fun without discussing World events. I welcome the changes. Yes, I was active in the Bees, but in the end this is a Hobby Forum and that's why I came here in the first place. Let's create this little bubble, call it the Neutral Zone, No Man's Land, whatever, let's all be at peace here and talk hobby, fun, lighthearted stuff so we can unwind and be friends and family like we used to be here. Let's teach and learn techniques for painting, sculpting, printing, drawing etc. Here we can find common ground, no matter you're background, you all once came here for this one thing. Let's stay for that! The rest, well there is a whole World out there where one can discuss all they want. Personally, I think of the Reaper Forum's as a Walled Garden where, to the greatest extent possible, the World Is Shut Out. This is a place for peace, tranquility, beauty, shared joy, and shared sorrow, without involving [to the greatest extent possible] the uglier mundanities which we need to escape from [Out there is Mordor, all the Orcspawn, and all the other nastiness. In here is an Elvin Kingdom, which requires constant vigilance on the part of all , with the Moderators acting as our Border Wardens.] I don't know if these analogies work for anyone else, but they sufice for my humble needs. Back when my software team was moving from the old silo/waterfall method we used to use to scrum, after work one day I was chatting with one of my wife's Professors (She's an admin at the local uni). he's an information systems type, and I mentioned that they were working on training us to start using the SCRUM method. He winced and turned to my wife and said something to the effect of 'You ever seen a rugby match? you know that place right in the middle where everyone is pushing and shoving and trying to knock the everloving crap out of everyone? That's the scrum and that's what your husband's team is is going through right now." that comment has amused me for a while, so when I saw someone link this video I almost died laughing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZiClMDjY-w Love it, definitely worth a laugh

Out of curiosity, how much *is* the land worth? At $7/year, even considering inflation, it's a steal, well worth keeping. Who knows what your plans will be or what will develop in that area in the next 20 years. 1 hour ago, Green Eyed Monster said: And somehow I just can't get the thought "Basalt Dike" out of my mind because of this post.
