Randomness XVII: The Madness of the Quorum

Recommended Posts

Really feels like a sub-optimal day all around.  Going to drag my three girls for flu shots this afternoon with the oldest getting a blood draw as well.  Then time for a snack before a 6pm mass in honor of my father in law.  He passed away some time in early Februrary but didn't want a funeral.  We were supposed to do a family reunion in the summer to have some sort of memorial, but the US/Canada border's been closed.  So our local church is doing this.  In anticipation of having a lot of cranky teenage girls I bought chocolate cake.

I had a decently optimistic job interview today, so that's good.

@Mad Jack hang in there.  Talk is cheap, but that's all I've got at the moment.

Wasn't  quite as bad as it could have been - they only needed to cut the rotors on the front, so it only cost me $360 instead of the $550 it might have...

However, now that I went and took $600 out of the bank to cover it, I have no easy way to put the rest of the money back into my account - my credit union has changed it's hours because of the virus and the lobby is now only open from 12- 3pm...  I'll probably have to stop at the drive-through teller window and ask for a deposit slip so I can put it back.

the things that I do that are not the job im supposed to do far outweigh the number of things I do that are my job.

Unfortunately someone has to do them

Consider me in the same boat. I'm in the Shipping department at work. I'm a warehouse guy. However, the management (in their infinite wisdom) has decreed that one person from Shipping and one person from Compounding have to work in the Filling dept. until further notice.

So now I'm packing a line in Filling every day. Except when the material handler is out, and I get to do his job.

So most days I end up having to do all three jobs over the course of the day - people expect me to handle the material handling for the line I'm on, and when we don't have the components immediately on hand they expect me to run down to the first floor to fetch them, bring them up on the elevator, to know if we have more available and when more will be arriving from the other warehouse when we're out of them...

Just because I can do half the damn job in the factory doesn't mean I can do them all at once.

I hated Filling when I used to do it back when I was a temp, and was about a week or two away from quitting when they hired me for the Shipping dept.

Remember, next time you want to throw a tantrum, you have to throw your hands in the air dramatically, throw your head backwards while screaming, then flop face first onto the floor. Try channeling a Spanish soap opera actor to achieve the appropriate level of drama.

I keep envisioning the Maxwell Q. Klinger System For Filing while you are describing this.

I think most of the world has heard about the passing of Eddie Van Halen.

You basically need to be completely disconnected from all media sources to not have heard it mentioned.

An incredibly talented Rock Guitarist whose influence will be felt for decades yet to unfold.

Y'know, between all the CoVID deaths and all the shootings, and all the famous people dying this year, I'm starting to wonder if I'm still alive... Or am I actually dead and my ghost is just showing up to work every day?

And yet, the aggregate death toll for the year in the USA is down from the average of the tally from previous years.

It's down by close to 100,00 people according to the people who keep track of these matters.

Has me wondering if the social distancing and heightened awareness of personal sanitation isn't having other beneficial effects that need to be investigated and quantified.

Most of us are aware of "Con Crud" and take precautions/measures.  Be nice if this translated into better habitual sanitary practices on the part of the general public.  Especially in the cleaning practices for public spaces.

Unless my memory is disintegrating faster than I'm aware of, didn't they tour in Japan?

thus the reason for the VH marathon at work last night. Sammy or David, it didn't matter.

"Humans Being" is a killer song from a great movie (Twister), it had been awhile since I listen to that one.

The school my nephews and niece go to has a confirmed COVID case (a teacher). The nephews are in the middle of exams at the moment...

I've heard a bit more. Apparently at least two of the teachers are confirmed and one is one of the niece's teachers. She's being tested today.

At least she's getting a bit of quiet from her brothers at the moment...

That was a long 7 hour wait. Lot of stress eating (packed a snack bag), several cans of Coke (or as our Scottish friends call it, the "fizzy black full fat juice"), and sooo much hand sanitizer used (because it's become such a habit now). The look of "aren't you coming with me?" on Molly's face when they took her from the car was enough to make me sick in the stomach. Almost boaked.

Sounds like you needed a Munchy box(with juice!)

That horror is roughly 6000 calories apparently :zombie:

Glad that you got Molly back safe and sound, here's hoping that Dixies prognosis is a good one.

All this sanitizer is playing havoc with the skin on my hands, I have to slather my hands in Dream Cream when I get in from work otherwise I get a weird reaction ::(: it's not as bad as the one I get from Greenstuff but I'd still continue using sanitizer even if my reactions were much worse, because I hate the idea unknowingly passing on a potentially deadly virus to anyone.

Unfortunately not everyone is taking notice, as our restrictions are tightening on Friday. Pubs and restaurants closed for at least 16 days and unnecessarily travel is being discouraged as a kind of "circuit breaker" to try and slowdown our infection rates. We're still not allowed houseguests and I'm completely scunnered* by the whole situation. We haven't had a game of Pathfinder since March  How hard is it for people to obey basic hygiene methods? I was so angry today that I even painted!

Hand Creams with moisturizers help to counteract the effects of hand sanitizer, which has the effect of overdrying the skin.  If you can find creams with Aloe Vera, this is very beneficial for the skin.

As to people observing basic hygiene.  When was the last time you saw somebody use a public facility an not wash their hands after?

BTW, that "snack box" looks rather tasty.  I'd probably add another 500 to 1000 calories with various sauces to enhance the flavors.
