Randomness XVII: The Madness of the Quorum

The snow has gotten heavier, though it's still large fluffy flakes. As expected, it's gotten pretty slippery out there and even with my caution I found myself going in directions I didn't want to go. Over a dozen accidents in regina right now because people can't transition from summer driving. The weather is supposed to get significantly warmer for Hallowe'en though, so there might be some hope.

The first 30-40km were pretty slushy and icy but after that not bad. The city was mostly melted by the time we got there and the roads down here are only a bit icy in spots now. Not bad for winter just wish it wasn't now. Hope they're right about Halloween. I think people here are still planning on having it.

Dad got his full cast today. They gave him a colored one, which he isn't happy about, as the color he got represents a political party here in the US (not going to say which one, just that he isn't happy). I wonder why they didn't have the generic off-white color (I didn't take him to the appointment). Did another x-ray on, doc is impressed that it already seems to be healing well. Bad news: he's been complaining about pain in his shoulder, they examined and he has a slight tear in his rotator cuff on the same side as the broken leg. No MRI since he still had a good amount of strength in it, but will re-evaluate it in a few weeks. Most likely will need physical therapy on that, and here's hoping he doesn't tear it further, we don't need a surgery on top of the broken leg.

Sent pictures of Molly's incision to the vet last night as instructed, waiting to hear back. It looked good yesterday, but we caught Dixie licking her incision today, and it looks a little pink in one spot. I'm wondering if Dixie licked part of a scab off. Will mention it to the doctor when he calls to give further instructions for Molly's care, maybe he'll tell us to put some antibiotic ointment on it.

It is also a very driech day here, been raining on and off since yesterday. No sunshine at all, and the lack of it is influencing people's moods who need that sunshine.

There's always paint.

Don't know about your neck of the woods but you can get cheap craft paints nearly everywhere around here.  If you get really desperate or creative there's always a rattle can of spray paint.  Just mask off above and below the cast and in 5 minutes the cast can be the color and texture of your choice.

The easy fix is to put a $0.05 a call tax on all autodialers.

Addendum:  If that doesn't chill the problem, double it and keep doubling it until the profits are all going for taxes.

Awwwww.
That is too sensible and not nearly as much fun.

I like what my phone company offers - you can opt into a call screening software thingy, and while there's a whitelist (and blacklist!) for numbers, those not on either list have to press a randomly selected button that they're prompted to push.

Works great on autodiallers, but not so well on mothers who decide to call you when they almost never call you.  They get cranky because they were screened! ::P:  She didn't quite understand that since she never calls me I didn't put her on said list (she won't be added either, due to said never calling).

It's cut down on unsolicited phone calls a lot, doubly so with my secondary method of not turning the ringer on on my phone... (I rarely have it on, because email and Telegram notifications can be annoying when going off constantly).

I was born and raised in the city Rotterdam.

Here is a piece of History, they managed to colour a film of the harbour in 1925.

Trick with autodialers is detecting them to make the charge, especially since most of them are already spamming illegal source numbers

I will be celebrating this. Was inspired to read the wikipedia blurb about it, had no idea dogs had such a special place in Hinduism.

I'm almost done working, I think I'm going to bake an apple pie after dinner.

Just need to do something fun.

What kind of top do you use for your apple pie? Are you a lattice topper or the solid dough top kind of person?

Another driech day here. Fairly typical here for this time of year. Woke up to thunderstorms and heavy rain. Desperately need a haircut, and am eyeballing the set of clippers heavily. Might just be that time in life when I go for the buzz cut.

Oh, I have no illusions about reaching an audience or anything... I'm just proud of myself for keeping it going for so long.

As you should be. I used to have a personal blog on one site (then migrated to another when it shut down) and had tons of entries before I shut it down. I met a lot of people, some of which I'm still in touch with to this day.

I just... Get tired of things sometimes and need a break.

Wasn't someone in politics talking about making some changes to get things back under control?

When I get a robo call, I just set the phone down and keep doing stuff until they hang up. If I get a real person, I shout "BUY MY BOOK!" and hang up.

So while I blinked, this happened.

Not our first snow, but enough for the snowplows to come out.

Fall has been very brief this year.

And just so you know, I've had my winter tires on for over two weeks.
