So, would y’all say winter tires are more important or 4 wheel drive?

I've never had 4WD, but I use all-weather tires.

Around here, I don't know of anyone who doesn't.  There might be some who switch from all-weather to snow tires, but I don't know any of them.

I was heading to work a couple years back, and hit a hill that was pretty much covered in ice.  Even with a decent start, I was only crawling up a few inches at a time until the tires finally grabbed.  Needless to say, I changed routes when the weather was bad after that day.  Also, the hill on which I live has stopped many a full-size truck (like sand-spreaders from the city, not just pickups) in front of our house.  Some get smart and back down the hill to go around, but others just sit there and spin-spin-spin until the tires start to smoke (and then decide to back down the hill to go around).

Ugh.  This just reminded me of a time when I visited a friend while she was away at college.  I drove back after a bit of nasty weather.  My little Mercury Topaz (front-wheel drive) going 20-30 mph on the interstate with a normal speed limit of 55 mph at the time.  I passed several cars in the ditches, and the couple times I hit 35-ish the steering wheel would start to shimmy.  I think it took me two or three tries to let go of the steering wheel when I finally got home (2+ hours after I left, compared to a little less than an hour there).

Good to hear the surgery went well.

Hoping for the best.

Thank you. I picked her up this morning, the poor baby was so anxious to get home she didn't wag her tail, and "paced" all around the back seat (more like scooted from window to window than a pace) which she shouldn't be doing because she has a giant bandage wrapped around her torso. Got her home, she got some food and water then zonked out. She's on a lot of medicines, I'm not going to get much solid sleep for the next week. All the ones that make her drowsy are given to her at the same time for the next week. She was so drowsy from them and the residual anesthesia that she could barely get her legs under her on the slick tile in the kitchen. Have to roll some rugs out to keep her from slipping, because she wants to eat at her bowl (tried to bring water to her and she wouldn't drink from it).

Otherwise, broke down and buzzed my shaggy Covid hair, which is pretty poor timing considering that it's getting cold, but necessary so I can take a quick shower (too many house patients to care for at one time!). Never had hair this short, it grows like a weed so I'll have an inch of hair before it gets too cold.

Another vote for winter tires.

I used to do rallycross, which is basically a fun little offroad course (dirt/gravel/snow/ice/mud whatever) in parking lot or other similar area that should be doable in any production car, similar to autoslalom but not on pavement, and usually much dirtier. (I hope to get back to it again one day....).

I get to one event and it is ICY.  After the first 2 runs, me (decent off road skills I guess) in my old front wheel drive Maxda MX-3 on brand new Blizzaks was something like 10 seconds ahead of a former Canadian rally championship competitor in an AWD subaru on all seasons.
Unfortunately, over lunch the temperature shot up to about 5C and it got sunny.  The low power FWD didn't fair nearly so well in the multiple inches of mud we had to slog through for the final 2 runs of the day.....

Unless you have snow and ice on your roads all winter then all season tires with 4WD is just fine.

Really 4WD can get you into some serious trouble on icy roads anyway, you still need to know how to utilize it properly, it’s not a magic bullet.

I've shortened the length of the trimmers since this all began too. It does make showering go even quicker, and I was keeping it pretty short before. Mrs Hamster calls in my "House Arrest/Prison" cut.

Just woke from a 3 hour nap. That'll probably be a bit too long, as I'm trying to get to bed around 10... Guess I'll have some time to paint tonight.

Yesterday I traveled to Greece. I traveled around Korinth for a while. I ended up going back to Athens....... it was not very nice. The plague has gripped the city. One of My favorite friends was killed, Phoibe. I will miss her greatly, but I will get my revenge. I am currently in Paros, I am helping my mother out, as she has been having problems with them. They kidnapped an admiral of hers and I have gotten him released. Many have died by my hands. The quarry where they were holding the admiral is littered with the fallen. many who were Spartan kicked from the top level of the quarry. 3 merc were answering the call to have my head, only one person was the sponser for that bounty, he died having never seen my face. I returned to the quarry and finished the job. Now I am ready to head back to Naxos and talk with my mother.

I am sorry,,, That was my adventures in AC Odyssey yesterday. Many Spartans and Athenians were sent to the gods... and even a few mercs. NO one messes with Kane the eagle bearer........lol I hope everyone is having a great day.

Hubby has to playfully ask if that makes you Winry, since you're always having to fix up Ed.

Well, I am blonde and I do like hitting things with spanners ....so... mebbe? ^_^

Eds name is especially appropriate since that airbrush cost me an arm and a leg....

My first thought was I hope none of them ever get named Hughes, since, well, yeah.

We rewatched the series recently and it was a unanimous decision that we didn't watch that episode or the ones with Nina. I don't need my heart ripped out twice, thank you very much.

Guessing you called the HP-CS Mustang because it just gets the job done?

Yup! Thankfully without flames though. Technically he's Mustang the Second, the original Mustang was my metallic Blue Halfmoon Betta Splendens. He was a lovely boy, very peaceful and happily shared his tank with green neon tetras and dwarf danios. Absolutely hated killifish for some reason and really didn't like it when Diva messed with his bubble nests ::o:

@ManvsMini glad you've gotten Dixie home, hopefully you can keep control of your charges, both human and canine!

I haven't been around a lot lately. I'm having a rough time this year with my mom and dad's birthday. My dad passed almost 7 and 1/2 years ago now. They share the same birthday but were a year apart. I'm really not doing good. Hoping that next month will be a distraction up until Thanksgiving or what ever the eff is going on with that.

I just realized with how some plans are going right now, I'll be ripping apart my painting areas all over again in short order - probably within a few weeks...

But it'll be worth it - more space on the assembly desk, a more than likely airbrushing area, and double the storage for various things..  So I'll be able to separate large, longer term projects and my assembly area ^_^
