Randomness XVII: The Madness of the Quorum

Recommended Posts

@Thoramel Good points, and very possible considering the roller coaster price today. I certainly thought about selling high and buying low repeatedly today, but I dislike day trading. I would not be surprised to see financial favors being called upon to lessen the pain.

The stock price will not stay inflated, I think most people know this, and anybody advocating that it’ll achieve lunar orbit is playing at something. It’s a financial game of chicken. Who blinks first? Large financial institutions or the small bit players? I think tomorrow will see the poultry hit the fan.

@Thoramel @Pegazus It would be nice if Melvin, Citron and whoever loaned those companies the financial backing necessary to re-rig the market would own up to their obligations.  I think they've all tripled down on their positions...  when they've got mass media and the government carrying their water you know they're in deep.

You can tell when a thing is popular when folk perform songs about it...

Brought Gabe's ashes home today. Didn't get to go pick them up yesterday for Dixie's vet appointment due to too much ice on the driveway, couldn't get her safely to the car. So Dixie goes in next week. But the ice was gone (despite it being even colder today than yesterday), so now my little buddy is back. I placed him on a shelf where he can see out of all the windows in the great room, up high as he liked to be.

The place that engraved his name placard screwed up a tiny bit, but not enough to really complain. They were able to fit the entire date him was adopted (6/20/2010) on it, but must have run out of room on for the year because they had to drop the 20 off of 2021 (1/20/21). I think they just ran out of room. Slightly irritated that they didn't start over to make it uniform, but on the scale of annoyances it only rates a 1 or 2.

But I'm an extremely risk averse investor, so I may be 100% wrong on events like the GME surge.

Depending on the definition, I am... And I'm not risk averse.  I just passively invest, mostly into XEQT but a bit into XGRO.  They're whole market funds on the TSX that automatically rebalance.

I say I'm not so risk averse because XEQT is 100% equity, while XGRO is 80/20.  Much easier to just keep funnelling a bit of cash into things here and there, and keep buying the same thing regardless of market conditions.

The Gamestop thing has been interesting to watch, but even if I had the extra money to get in on such and gamble I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have gone in on that, even though someone I know made $47k USD on such - and they're putting it into a hedge fund for their daughter's education.

Amen. Last night, I reduced one of my orders to put in GME. Not much, but drop, drip, drip. It was not a lot for me, and I won't be making enough to buy anything, but I got in at 5 shares at $290 just now.

This is not financial advice. I have been trading for a quarter century. It is very likely I will lose the entire investment. I am comfortable with that.

It's also going to be absolutely an amazing Friday.

I look at this as a small price to pay to roll a few heads on Wall Street and sink a few financial firms.

Hi, my mother will have been home for a week tomorrow, and while she is able to handle her most immediate personal hygiene, basically, and is in wildly better shape than we expected, I am her (nearly) full-time caregiver now and doing things that quite frankly I never imagined having to do for my parents, though I suppose it wasn't entirely unthinkable if I'd thought just a little, and my dad is also suffering a back injury now, which has added an interesting wrinkle, and my brother is just kind of useless, and, well, after seven days of mornings and nights and insulin shots and prepared meals (omg, y'all, I bought an Instant Pot and also baked chicken, like any 12-year-old could do, but in this case it was me, so, wow!) and a few less-savory things still, I just want to give a huuuuuuuge shout out to any CNAs we might have around here, you are better people than I by far, God bless you, but one day I'm gonna do something fun again lol, like paint or mini or not skip D&D night because of a minor emergency like what happened tonight, so now I'm going to sit here and watch DS9 awhile, as I'm nearing the end and surprisingly sad to be running out of episodes, but it's all right, everything's gonna be all right, thank you, y'all take care of yourselves, and goodnight.

 The closest to a BIG fight I've had with Grump was near the end of a THREE DAY game of Risk. ::P:

I had to get through a space with ONE defender, and that ONE defender kicked my broccoli for three turns, until Grump got the cards to reinforce it and kill THAT idea.

Pretty sure I WILL DESTROY YOU were my exact words when I sent my horde against his one guy, not knowing the one guy was Cohen the Barbarian.

Last two players in what started as a five player game.

If she'd gotten through Cohen she would have been in my sparsely defended interior.

But Cohen held the line.

Successful D&D game last night. Nick the Pike made it up to level 6 (thanks to his level bonus). Did some stuff in town, then made it to the dungeon entrance. Fought and killed 6 gargoyles. Tough ones too. They could cast Hold Person if they grabbed you. Thankfully we managed to defeat them, mostly due to our wizard and her magic missiles, especilly at the end of the fight when the 2 fighters, and the cleric were all held. ::o:

Now we just need to find a way to open the door.

COFFEE!!
