Randomness XVII: The Madness of the Quorum

Recommended Posts

I feel like I can talk about this here and people will understand, but spoiler'd because it's kinda dark. Beware.

Y'all ever go on a shopping spree that just won't end?

It all started with a little therapy shopping a couple weeks ago, had been running myself ragged taking care of my mom and I swung by eBay and I just happened to see a copy of that old Arabian Adventures box set I wanted but never would pull the triggeer on, and I said what the heck. And then I snagged a couple more things, and then I found some Oriental Adventures stuff that was in the same category for me, wanted but never would go all the way, and all the sudden I'd had a nice little weekend at the market.

But then next thing I know I've started filling in my 2nd Edition Complete Handbook collection, and the DMGR series, and I'm on Ebay every day cruising around for deals, and next thing I know I've bought that last 3.5 Eberron module I needed and for some reason the 4th Edition Eberron campaign books because what the heck I got a deal, but HOLY broccoli YOU GUYS I don't even play 4th Edition so wtf. And then all the sudden a couple weeks pass and my mom's doing a lot better, things have mostly calmed down and we're having a nice small birthday get-together, and I'm sitting around poking at the phone and spot that old Anauroch supplement and I've got this weird soft spot for that area and I make an offer, and they take it, but then the seller messages me like Satan himself saying, "heh heh heh, see anything else you like? Let's make a deal," seriously just imagine every "ha ha ha enablement!" joke that's ever been made around here but then pretend it's Viggo Mortensen in The Prophecy saying it, and next thing I know I'm sitting with a list of stuff and invoices are sent and bam.

And, uh. I'll probably never get to use this stuff in a game lol. But the madness is over now! I think. I hope. Oh, please, let it be at an end.

tl;dr, Money awesomely but foolishly spent, please send help.

Also, fun fact I discovered at work this morning. Y'know those packets of sealed air that come in your packages? Turns out if you rub them in your hair you can make them stick to walls.

Now naturally, that totally doesn't mean I stuck them to the walls all over the storage room, giggling like a maniac. That's utterly absurd.

So my super large box for my RVE order arrived Thursday and slightly less than half it's volume filled with these, all connected in a single strip.  It was longer than my house!  I know because I stretch from wall to wall of the finished basement.

If anyone really wanted to spread contagion, they would just have to cough a lot when those were being made.

I kinda worried about this last year when I ordered my first replacement LCD screen for my 3d printer thru aliexpress. I ordered it around Feb or March......

& yes I totally spaced off the whole China/coronavirus connection when I ordered.

Yup, been there (who am I kidding, it's my current shipping address)... Welcome to the support group - cookies and coffee are over there on the corner table... :zombie:

It's even worse with Model Railroad "stuff".

High end model steam locomotives require careful packing and storage and the suitcases I use take up a considerable amount of space.  Same with rolling stock.

My "roundhouse in the closet" takes up most of a bedroom closet.

Fortunately(?) I've never had the cash to acquire either that much space or the stuff to fill it...

(My whole miniatures collection only takes up about four standard kitchen cabinets.)

Get back to me when you've been collecting for more than 5 decades.

Just an occasional purchase adds up when you have multiple decades of items collected for "retirement".

Sounds like you need some “you” time. I suppose buying minis is better for your health than bing eating.

I’m glad your mom is doing better. :hugs:

Look, I don't want to get into a lot of details here or anything but you can basically do both these things at once, turns out.
