Man. Every time I try to talk to the peeps on our AL Discord about doing something a little different, get outside the box a little, it is met with... deafening silence. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. If I posted about starting a game like I did today literally anywhere else I'd be inundated with responses. They don't know me well enough to know what a turd I am, so it's not that. I guess I could just holler at total strangers on the Internet, but I was trying to avoid that tbh. I think I've said something before about how this group is really hard to get interested in things beyond the Thursday-night plug-'n'-play, that even just getting a good discussion going is an uphill battle, and I guess this is simply more of the same. But it's disappointing. And kinda weird.

My estranged wife said she'd like to play tho, and I've got this one fantasy where we game our way back to a happy marriage, so I guess I can fixate on that for a while now.

From what you describe you've got a bunch of people in such a rut the ends are starting to close in.

It's too bad because just a slight bit of inquisitiveness or willingness to explore what's just on the other side of the line that defines the box could make their individual and collective worlds so much more interesting.

It's most likely not you, just a bunch of people stuck in a place where they are "comfortable" enough they don't want to entertain any change.

With respect to your ex, just maintaining a friendship is a good starting point.

This bit sounds a little like Mr. Thorne and I trying to get people to try The Dark Eye.

Or, really, anything that isn't PF or 5e.

It's really hard to dredge up any excite about new systems/settings/any combination thereof when suggestions are met with dead air. :/

You know it's getting close to that timeframe when you're refreshing the online payroll documentation site every day, or even inadvertently twice a day.  I could just wait it out until Friday or even next Monday, but I'd rather get that paperwork ~now~, even though they don't have to get it to me until next Monday....

I swear it totally isn't at all related to my sheer desire to order parts for a new computer rig, a new assembly desk, and several other things...

Now I'm supposed to wait at least 22 more hours before trying to actually write on it...

For future reference for anyone else attempting this, after sanding the surface one or two sealer coats, with sanding in between, of a neutral color surface sealant will give you a fully prepped surface, almost as good as tempered masonite to apply your chalk board paint to.

Is Tempered Masonite crazy expensive?  (Were it me, I would have considered just nailing a piece of it to that wall.)

Timeline Trivia for Tuesday, February 23rd:

  • 532 – Byzantine emperor Justinian I ordered the building of a new Orthodox Christian basilica in Constantinople – the Hagia Sophia.

  • 1927 – German theoretical physicist Werner Heisenberg wrote a letter to fellow physicist Wolfgang Pauli, in which he described his uncertainty principle for the first time.

  • 1954 – The first mass inoculation of children against polio with the Salk vaccine began in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Jonas Salk chose not to patent the vaccine or seek profit from it in order to maximize its distribution; by 1959, 90 countries would be using his vaccine.

*Tromp, tromp, tromp* Up the stairs...

That's funny, there are two boxes right in front of the door, as a FedEx truck below scoots away.... The smaller box is just a bit bigger than a one liter bottle of resin, while the other is considerably larger....

I wonder what they could be.... ::P:

Huh, that's funny, I had two boxes in my hands just a few seconds ago, now both the boxes and my wife have mysteriously vanished....

The Auld Grump

And then we started having power flickers, so I didn't get to try it out. ::(:

For what it is worth, taking the tongue is one of the precautions the Dwarf Underworld traditionally utilizes....

The Auld Grump

He' the kind of EVIL that tries to make it seem normal.

Kingpin, not Green Goblin, Lex Luthor, not the Joker.

He is EVIL!

Dear Hamsterling,

Your pushing the bottle away, then crying because your hungry is giving me a headache.

Cooooofffffeeeeee...

Get used to the “I’m hungry but not for that!”. It’ll only last for the next 17.5 years.

Guessing on Hamsterling’s age. Can’t keep track of my own spawns’ age.

And as hesitant as I am to push anything, as I don’t want to be THAT person...  but it might be time for a little applesauce. Eternally grateful to my evil stepmother pushing that on us, who were dutifully following the pediatrician’s commandments.

Sounding a lot like my group.  I send out messages and get no response, can't generate any enthusiasm or chatter about the game. Even had one player rage quit because I asked folks to RSVP if they still wanted to play.   Despite that, they show up for the game.  Doing it online has actually improved attendance and people being on time.
