So what do you do with an older lady who is used to having things mostly her own way insists on taking off the immobilization sleeve while I'm sleeping "because it's uncomfortable"?

Number One Daughter Unit and I are in accord with recognizing her, lets just call it, Portugee hard headed streak.  I've explained to her in my best Dutch Uncle lecture mode [plus pleading] that if she doesn't keep it on the breaks won't heal either quickly or properly and that she will be in greater pain for longer as a result.

If I seem like I'm venting, you're right.

Frustrated and nearly at my wits end.

If that's anything like Rock-hard German Skull brand stubborn... I told Andi he ever does something like that* again, I'mma do phone calls.

I HATE phone calls. Like, literally, will do anything to avoid initiating one.

*That, in this context, is The Saga Of The Foot, which ... *sigh*

Don't actually know if preventable, but might at least have been caught before it got to the stage it was at when he finally took it to a doctor.

Yes it is.  With the admixture of Mediterranean volatility.

Tell Andi I said he needs to behave himself and pay attention to your trying to take good care of him.

I sympathize with both of you.  While I have not been a caretaker, I have been the cranky patient. My foot surgery pain a couple years ago reached a 9 (on that scale where 0 is no pain and 10 is blissfully passed out) so I can tell you that logic, reasoning and pleading have no effect on a brain consumed with one desire: to make it stop.  GEM, if it is possible to give her drugs a little earlier than scheduled, I recommend that, from a patient's point of view.  Obviously, use your best judgement here.

Sometimes venting is only way to make it the right way.

@Green Eyed Monster good luck with your Lady. People in pain are hecking stubborn and irrational (I speak as someone as who can’t rub two brain cells together when in pain).

It's not every day you see a Welcome mat that makes you go 'Now that's cool!', but....

I actually have one of those mats. It’s pretty cool.

This last week has been very busy, because, despite the cold + cough + chest pain I’m having, I’ve actually been doing well with my adulting. I’ve been doing things I planned on doing, making dinner every night (no eating out), and getting various bills and paperwork situations cleared up. Keep expecting this amazing productivity to end, but I’m making the most of it while I can.

I've been trying to manage her pain meds so that she gets maximum relief with minimum gap between the effective time and the prescribed time.

I know from past personal experience with the same meds [same strength]  that she should probably be getting meds every 6 hours instead of every 8 as prescribed, so I'm walking the line.

Waiting on FedEx, as my Pippd (Vex + minis) package is arriving today & I need to sign for this one. I really wanna go into the garage & work on my printer or apply some decals. I guess I could just lift the garage door up. I'd hate to be in the process of applying a decal & have the box show up thou..

Also have anther Big A package showing up & that is the final piece of the resin printer fix. I can wait on that one thanks to Big A's drop & run policy...

I had to cancel Saturday's game due to one of the players signed up himself & anther player for a event at the FLGS without realizing what day it was on. No worries on my part, I may try & mow at least the front yard that day, we shall see. I know one player will try to keep the game alive that day, but I'm not running a in the middle of adventure with 2 guys (& 1 wasn't there last week). So no go on the game. We can wait till the 20th.

The bunny has found something interesting. I have the front door open & just the screen door. She was chilling in front of the screen (lower part came out long ago, so we just hot glued in a mesh screen) & all of sudden I see her munching on something....the weather striping. Luckily, she did get much of it. I stuck a sandal over the area & she has left it alone.....goofy bunny!!!

EDIT: Mention their name & they appear!!!

I've been in a similar situation to yours recently (dad and his broken leg), and I feel for you. Hang in there. Can't say it'll be better in a day or a week (sounds like she's as stubborn as my dad) but it's worth fighting the battle. I hope it heals quickly and cleanly. You can always try making the argument that if it isn't left on the limb will never regain full mobility (as is the case of my dad, he didn't listen to taking it easy, now he has a limp that may or may not get better with therapy).

And then there's always duct taping the sleeve on...

And then there's always duct taping the sleeve on...

The orthopedist explained to her that she can expect some loss of range of motion, because she already has an unrepaired rotator cuff injury to that shoulder.

I've reiterated the range of motion argument in my discussions about taking the sleeve off.

I'm saving the taping it in place discussion for tomorrow at the earliest.  I have already half jokingly threatened her with a plaster cast in place of the sleeve and strap arrangement.

I'm eyeing the roll of medical tape I keep on my desk as the first level tape application, to go on the plastic buckles for the straps.

Painting Platinum! #055.  Started at 3:07 PM.  Painting a Bones USA RVE mini.

ETA: Sadie said she'll have another show on Saturday at 3 PM, and that her plan is to move the show to Saturdays now.  She had mixed feelings about making the move, but she thinks it will be better for her due to her commitments at work Mon-Fri.

One of Grump's coworkers made.sure I got my recommended daily allowance of surreal.

She congratulated me on my "nice young man".

She was talking about Grump.

Grump is older than she is.

But I am 100% certain that she was SINCERE.

Did you know that on this day in history, March 11th, the following happened?

  • 1851 – The first performance of the opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi took place in Venice.

  • 1911 – Sir Fitzroy Maclean, 1st Baronet, Scottish general and politician, was born. It is speculated he may have been the inspiration (or one of many) for Ian Fleming's character James Bond.

  • 1941 – United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease Act into law, allowing American-built war supplies to be shipped to the Allies on loan.

There is another item of world wide significance that happened 10 years ago today.

It is the Tsunami that caused the Fukushima Reactor Meltdown.

We will be witnessing the environmental impact [highly tempted to use the word fallout] of this disaster for decades.

For the first time in a while, my PC rests overnight.  Tomorrow, a maniacal fox performs surgery on it, also know as hardware upgrades...

All I know is I don't care how cold it is outside I'm blowing out the CPU's heatsink outdoors! (or "cheating" and using my airbrush booth with no filter to vent it out - that's probably better for staying warm)

Seven years now, this rig has served me well.  It shall continue to serve me well with other things in the future, just not tomorrow.

Definitely looking forward to some seriously improved average and minimum framerates in games, as well as the G-Sync Compatible mode for my main display actually working.  Not quite looking forward to reinstalling things, but I shall survive.  I'm definitely not looking forward to learning the intricacies of Windows 10...

On my desktop,

My quiet desktop,

My PC sleeps tonight....

***

Both of the after school groups are back on track.

The group tonight had a... discussion... with the leader of the Laughing Devils - which did not go as they expected.

'What are you, stupid? It doesn't matter what you want from us, it won't be worth the price. Oy! So much mashugana I am seeing!'

He doesn't want to be there. If  the squad can figure out a way to send them all back, he won't be complaining.
