Getting really sick of Verizon over charging us. This is the third month in a row they’ve charged us $100 extra for going over on our data... except we never even use all the data we have. This month we even had carry over data. And every time Hubby calls them they go through a list of BS that we must be doing wrong and constantly tell him we need to upgrade to the unlimited plan.

I feel like they’re trying to force into going for the unlimited plan.

Maybe you should verify that you are the only two actually using your plan (check your statement for unusual calls, charges, etc.). It's unlikely, but better to be sure!

I was baffled one month when our bill was substantially higher than what it should have been. After doing some sleuthing, I discovered the culprit was a few calls that had been labeled "International" (and charged appropriately). After consulting with MrBoot, I discovered that they were work-related calls from a research group in Canada. However, it was only when they called him that it was flagged as international, but not when he called them. Naturally, our phone company never alerted us to this unusual activity or confirmed it was us. <_< I was just glad it was a legitimate reason and not a "looks like someone stole/hacked your account" scenario.

Huzzah!

Sounds like it's time to make a complaint to your state Public Utilities Commission.

For some of us, that needs to be the Week after the changeover.

With the following week devoted to a gradual reduction back to our normal caffeine intake levels.

Back from my first trip to my new apartment.

Specifically, it's a 7 hour drive away, and I'm gradually bringing stuff over until I can schedule the movers to do the heavy stuff. With my last bad moving experience, I'm more wary about what they can or cannot do delicately. And since I'm currently working from home, there's no real rush.

So I brought over enough stuff to spend the night: foam mattress, pillows, sheets, blankets, folding table, folding chairs, towels, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, tissue paper, drinking cups, lamp.

During that first evening, I took measurements of everything! Every wall, every closet, width and height of windows (for future blinds). My initial conclusion is correct, the new apartment is smaller than my current one (~680 ft² vs 750 ft²), but the wall and storage arrangement are far better, so it'll feel larger once everything is in place.

Just the fact that I have a walk-in storage room means I can put up 10 feet wide of racks and shelves, away from view, and fill them with whatever I want, and still have room for my tool chest and shopvac is a big plus.

The bath/shower installation is new. And it's an extra deep bathtub too. And considering hot water is included with my apartment (industrial water heater with plenty of heating elements according to the janitor), I made sure to test it out. Believe me, it's HOT water when fully open.

Another interesting realization is that both my bedroom and office windows are sliding windows. Exactly the right kind for me to potentially set up an airbrush painting station.

A few downsides:

  • The walls and floor are rather thin, so not very soundproof, and the floor creeks in a few places. But I grew up in a busy family house, so these are familiar background noises.
  • Also, there's a railroad track one block away. Again, I grew up in a town with major train yard, so it's still a familiar sound to me, even in the middle of the night.
  • It's a bit dirty. Nothing drastic, mostly leftover dust from reno work, or previous apartment hunters. I'm planning my next weekend, or Easter weekend even, to go back and scrub it up.
  • Windows are mostly north facing, so virtually no direct sunlight. But being on the second floor with no opposing buildings, it's sill pretty bright, even in the evening. The perfect kind of light for the indoor plants I'm planing for.
  • Regarding the apartment size, the kitchen is the one that will feel smaller, but I've had a small kitchen before, so I'll adapt.
  • I'm gonna need a washer and dryer. The space is there, but I don't own any. So it's another expense, but at the same time used ones are easy to come by (if I can get it delivered).

Next weekend, another trip with more boxes and cases!

Look for a used appliance dealer that will deliver.  If they have delivery and installation service you are most likely dealing with a more reputable business and you will probably find better quality appliances than somebody who doesn't want to do the delivery work.

Good luck on the new digs.  It sounds like you have found something that will suit your needs for some time.

And may you have an uneventful move.

The Coming Storm and the Pyramid of Death.

A week before the rumor travel through the ether “The Storm is coming one foot or FIVE? “  Local soothsayers were baffled – the future is cloudy, ask again later.

Three days before the consensus narrowed.  It comes tomorrow (or the day after)  It may be one foot or two,  five is right out.  The schools will close, the government will close, all will retreat before the White Storm.

The Day before only water fell from the sky,  a few flakes melting on the traffic ways.  Just wait they said, it will be warm but it is coming still.

It came indeed and did not stop.  I awoke with a burning light in my eyes.  I must BUILD.

My youngest spawn said let us build a dome of snow and ice so that we may hide within.

In my folly I said, nay, I will build in the shape of the ancient and cursed tombs of Eygpt.  It will be a Pyramid.

Eschewing rolling balls or shaping blocks I constructed a mound in a barren field.  I piled high while my young spawn dug deep.

Until low the pyramid was built.  The Youngest spawn entreated me to widen the space within, and while I did she retreated to warmth and lunch.

Like the Ancient architects of legend, once within I found the door sealed behind me.  The discarded snow was packed tight around my legs.  The cold found gaps in my armor and I knew despair.  I had been buried alive by my own hand!  My energy had waned as all my might and vigor had gone into this creation.  And creating the paths to the site.

Help was too far away I the very act of summoning it would expose my instrument to the melted snow.

Flailing feet and crawling like a worm sufficed to free me, although My hat and trowel were abandoned in the struggle.   The true treasure was found only at home. A liquid  tinted by brown powder.   Unknown to me this alchemy was mastered by my Spawn.

Next time I will not construct the cursed shape of a triangular tomb less I be trapped again within.

TLDR;  I built a pyramid out of snow,  and got stuck inside.  After I quit panicking, I got out, went home and had hot cocoa.

If it turns up, it will not be as creep-sationally fantastic as that one. I don’t know anyone that would fix a pie like that for me. ::(: My pie will be quite ordinary.

Second sad: in one post. Maybe I stop typing now. (?)

There are strong indications that my pie will not be delivered. No pie for Griffin on Pi day.

My lemon Chess PI was a failure, I mean we ate it anyway, but it was kinda sweet  lemon soup in a pie shell.

My Bacon, onion and cheese pie (quiche)   was perfect.
