Reading Starfinder, and trying not to panic about my final.

Starfinder is better than I expected, we've had it for years, but Grump ended up using straight up Pathfinder for his Darkjammer game.

I guess my experiences with PF2 left me expecting that Starfinder would suck, but there seems to be a distinct lack of suckage.

Not planning a campaign yet, but happy to say I am considering it.

Looks like it could be fun.

I had a good time running it. the weakest part was ship to ship combat, the system as written is pretty slow, to the point where you need to either make enemy ships retreat or surrender instead of fighting to the death unless you want the space fights to be a whole session.

I'm not a big fan of the space combat rules.  they try very hard to make sure that each crew member has somehting to do so they arent bored but in the process everything slows down because you can have a discussion over who is doing what at each round.  its nice to see the group scientist can run the tech portion or the guy with comm skills has something to do but it can be 6 rolls to move the ship.

Of course my luck during the first ship combat skewed all of that.  they faced their first enemy in space and that enemy managed to confirm 3 fumbles in a row (i am NOT discussing the probability of that event)  Anyway by this point i had the weapons systems fail completely and catastrophically, leaving a smoking husk in space.  so we didnt get our first taste right and after that i sort of streamlined the rules so the shooters shot, the pilot piloted and the others only rolled when something went wrong and let them just set things like sheild strength and power distribution.  not as rolly but it was a lot faster!

Today is a day off. I took the day off because I needed to drive my wife to and from a medical procedure. That's done, and we're back home. I could technically leave now and get to work in time to work a half day, (I did think about it) but I'm already off, so I'm just going to enjoy the day.

Hope all went well!

@haldir You thought you were smart to send out your agents, right?

Well we bribed them!!!

Just got off the phone with a site that currently has a "technician" from their Internet Service Provider on site.

Let me just say this. If you're a technician working for an ISP installing/servicing internet, you should know the difference between Static and Dynamic IPs, what a DHCP pool is, what port forwarding is and how to set all of those things up in your company's modem/router.

If you do not know that stuff, you probably shouldn't be doing that job

If you're an ISP, you should make sure your technicians know those things. Yes, you might have to pay them more, but in the long run it will pay off because they won't inadvertently break things they don't know how to fix.

I dreamt that I woke up(getting a lot of those recently) and I had to catch all the sheep because the local golfers has gone through the pasture and left the gates open AGAIN. Except the 'sheep' were sheep sized chickens and I had to find the leader, heft it up on my shoulders and get the rest to follow me that way. Unfortunately the boss sheep/chicken looked exactly like all the rest and our cats(who were the size of sheepdogs) were refusing to do their assigned herding duties as they didn't want go out in the rain and wouldn't tell me which was the boss sheep as they were feeling disrespected.

I do not live on a farm, have chickens or have a golf course next door.

I do have disobedient cats that probably feel disrespected though.

This sounds like a quest in a D-list World of Warcraft-esque MMORPG. 😛

I hope everyone is having the best day they can. We might be buying a new truck.....It is for me, but wife does not know that part yet......lol, Just kidding. My GURPS Traveller PbP has started out well. hopefully I can keep the players engaged. Even if you are not interested in playing stop by and give the thread a read over.  Now that I have that started, I can pick my kids GURPS Fantasy game back up and rolling.

Well, balls. I got the new laptop. It's amazing so far, runs like a charm. Only thing I forgot to check for before I ordered was an SD card reader, which it does not look like it has. I think I can get a pen drive that you can insert them into for pretty cheap though so not a huge deal. I will just really need to use this to edit photos.

Bundle of Holding has a Legendary Games AP for Starfinder as pne of their bundles.

Guess what I just did?

For ship combat I may just have Grump cobble together a SF version of the ship rules he used in Darkjammer. Quick and dirty, not super duper detailed.

Well it appears, there will be no Saturday game for a 2nd straight week. One of the players is a ccg player & there is a tourney he wants to play in. I do need to discuss with this player how much he is dedicated to the rpg as it harms the other player's chances of playing each week. I know the guy is more into ccgs, so I'll understand if he wants to drop out.

On the flipside, some minis I ordered for the game haven't shown up yet, so at least they'll all be here for the game. Plus, I can work out the kinks of my printer without rushing it back into service. Off to change fep sheets & to work on some models!

(one of the bonuses of not having a game I don't need to rush to clean the table off for it....)

<sigh> I just did something I haven't done to a customer in a while. Hung up on her.

Same customer from yesterday who wanted to plug her internet into her dial up modem.

She wants us to solve her issue (she has about $5-8k in credit card transactions that are "stuck" in her machine), but she doesn't want to take any of the actions that are required of her to retrieve them, like reactivating her disconnected phone line or purchase the internet upgrade. She keeps trying to find work arounds, and then wastes our time.

My final straw was today - she called in wanting help in retrieving an id number from the machine. Not a big deal, takes less than 2 minutes to do. But she wasn't on site.  So instead of just letting me give her the instructions so she could go to site and do them, she wants to conference her busy cashier into our call and have me walk her through doing it. I protest, because the last two times she did this, it took ten minutes longer to do what we needed to do because the cashier kept stopping to help customers, but she insists and calls her cashier anyway while I'm still talking.  So they both say "oh, we won't do that."  Not two steps into the eight step process, what does the cashier do? You guessed it, stops to help a customer.

I hung up and emailed her the instructions.

To be fair, I'm not upset with the cashier.  The cashier should help the customer that's in front of them first.

Wow, can't say as I blame you there.

I've had similar dreams about having to go through boot camp again - at my current age, but various ranks.  They've been more frequent now that my son has his enlistment date.

Best of luck to him!
