Thank you Glitterwolf!  You don't think the axe is too dark, do you?

Ho, I think it suits him!

Thanks! Was trying to not do anything shiny, but at the same time didn’t want it rusty either.

I agree. Nice simple mini and I don’t think it would look as good with a brighter axe head.

Thank you KruleBear, your kind comments are not a reflection of your moniker.

The mini is nice and simple but the paint job is wonderful!  Very lifelike work on his skin tones and it contrasts well with the dark clothing.  The axe is old and used so it wouldn't be bright.  Even cleaning it every day would not put a shine on it.

Great color scheme - dark and atmospheric, suits the character well I think!

Thank you very much primeval!  I wasn’t looking for much color, especially with the theme he represents.

Thanks Stormreach!  Didn’t want a bright axe just for that reason. It’s an axe with lots of use under its blade, and didn’t want to do my normal metal that usually starts out as ashen blue.

      Hi guys and guyettes!

So continuing on with some Dennis Mize Children of the Night dinosaurs, here is the Monoclonius Agathaumas:

He went on a long, oval base because he was just too big for whatever circular ones I had. Tried to once again stay away from a green or grey color scheme. Not a very dramatic pose, just a dinosaur kind of hanging out, but I think he's pretty swell as far as dinosaurs go.  Not a triceratops, doesn't have those wonderful long horns on his head, just little nubs.   If I get so inspired, I'll go look up his name to see what actually is known about this particular type of dinosaur and where he lived, et cetera.

Back in the days of my youth, the seventies, we as kids really loved anything related to dinosaurs and cavemen.  But those were back in the days of pre-pre Jurassic Park, we had more Harryhausen as our main provider of cinematic dinosaurs, and whatever books we could get at book stores.

Speaking of seventies dinosaurs, has anybody visited the Flintstone Park in South Dakota and is it still there?

The last few weeks have been very busy with very little time or inspiration to paint, as the general lack of posts lately will bear full witness to.

As you might imagine, I was going for green magical flames.  I struggled with this, and it did not turn out as I had envisioned it.
This one I count as a bit of a failure, and I am not at all satisfied with how it turned out. Maybe I will repaint the whole thing at some point but for now I am rather sick of it.
At leaast it does look much better IRL on the table than when magnified in photos. Somthing which is a small comfort. The white for "teeth" does not work at all in the pictures and I might just redo that part and leave the rest alone. Or not. The wierd thing is that the white "teeth" are not that bad IRL. But once seen, it cannot be unseen...

      What is this sorcery?!
Gah! Even the captions are uninspired. I should probably just go to bed.

      Hello sentient painting creatures!

So here's one I just finished painting and just got his base finished this morning and some pictures taken:

from an eighties Ral Partha set of Julie Guthrie figures, originally called the Berserkers, with was a group of different types of fighters/warriors. Nice set, as is all of what the Goddess Guthrie creates.

With this one, I also am using as a comparison set, because I also painted this one many, many years ago. So it was in the eighties, before 1986 when I graduated high school, so this painted version is of an age between 34 and maybe 39 years old, couldn't nail down an exact date exactly:

I started out with the same skin and hair more or less on my new version, but changed up his wardrobe as to note make a carbon copy.  The new figure was painted with Reaper colors and the old version was Polly S.

Anyhoos, always fun to do these little comparison shots!
