Jasper_the_2nd Posted June 3, 2020 Share Posted June 3, 2020 I have 3 minis holders sitting on my desk. 2 purchased, one printed (FDG's). Rastl Posted June 3, 2020 Share Posted June 3, 2020 I use the .grip system since it holds bottle caps as well as has a pressure system for those who don't want to glue them to caps. The absolute original seems to have been removed from Thingiverse but someone has put a copy up for all of us to use. The best mod in my opinion hollows it out and has a screw in plug so you can fill it with sand for weight. Obviously I printed out several since I tend to have multiple minis going at the same time and don't want to keep switching handles and because I can. Yes. Cygnwulf Posted June 3, 2020 Share Posted June 3, 2020 Rathcore calls it a support bar, Game Envy calls it a stability bar, it allows you to alter your grip without touching the model so you can hold it in different ways. They have a ton of examples on their website. I use one against the web between my thumb and index finger so I can have a more open grip, I find it more stable. They seem weird at first, and then you get busy painting and suddenly realize you've been using it for a few hours, and your hubby laughs when you say that... At least that's how my experience has been. There is a modular painting handle thingiverse that looks to be fairly similar to the GW one (except uses a rubber band). It has a stability bar that would go between the two pieces. I might try printing it off to see if it is thin enough to go between the GW pieces, since the GW bolt isn't very long...... That said, I prefer one to the pill bottle or paint pot, just as I prefer using a real palette to a tupperware. Sure the cheap version is good enough, but using the purpose made tool is a luxury that doesn't make you a better painter, but it can improve your enjoyment of the process.. I'm way off topic here though. Personally, I like the .grip system as a 3d printed option as well, since it has the option both for clamps and screw-caps. Clamps are great when you're going to be processing through a bunch of the same thing on rigid bases (like a platoon of imperial guard), but they don't work on bones material. The screw cap takes longer to swap, but if you've multiple handles that solves that issue, and if you glue your bases to the cap (and pop off later with a screwdriver) then it holds better than the clamp, so it's better for lower quantity items you'll be working more intensively on. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There's a You Tube video where a reviewer, using a mini holder with a stability bar had something very similar to say. It didn't make much difference, but he kept using it, then a few hours later realized he had started using the bar without noticing, his hands had figured things out without engaging his brain. 2 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
