Squidmar: Kolinsky Miniature Paintbrush 6/15

Not sure what the appeal is, other than maybe fans of Squidmar supporting him. Both the busts and brushes seem quite expensive. Can get some Raphael 8404s for quite a bit cheaper, especially after factoring in that shipping. But I guess you get a cool case... though, storing a brush vertically after use is not exactly a good idea.

But good for him for getting so much support so quickly.

The set of 4 comes out slightly cheaper than getting Raphael 8404s from Blick before shipping, so the prices aren't that out there.

This are rebranded "DaVinci Maestro, Serie 35", I can buy the 2/0, 0, 1 and 2 (same as XS, S, M and L) for  44,25€ (around 50$) shipped (10€ for shipping). EDIT: Tax included.
Squidmar's ones cost me around 65€ shipped (17€ for shipping!!!)...
Ok the box is cool, but no worth the difference IMHO.

@Cicciopiu  How did you find out?

ALso, if anyone here has backed. One backer is asking about coloured marking on the brushes so that he can more easily tell them apart from a distance(nearsighted and takes his glasses off when painting)

His problem can be easily solved with heat-shrink tubing.

You are right, I made a statement but mine is just a supposition: @SamuraiJack  wrote some post ago that the manufacture is Da Vinci, and I know this brand from ages (I'm italian, you may find this brushes everywhere in Italy);
now looking at Squidmar's brushes they look exactly like Da Vinci Maestro Series 10 (but for the handle), than are even cheaper than Series 35, but I suppose they are using Kolinsky red sable of the best quality for miniature painting, that's the reason I'm using as reference series 35.

But even if I'm wrong, both Raphael 8404 and Da Vinci Serie 10 or 35 are cheaper than Squidmar's brushes. At least here in Europe.
So, until they have something special and/or different from other well know brands, I don't see the point in back this "project" and wait till november to get your "new" brushes.

I wasn't trying to suggest the price was amazing, just that it's not crazy out of line. Some of the other brush kickstarters run many times the standard cost of compatible brushes. If these are alterations (even minor) the amount they cost over the standard DaVinci brushes seems like it probably makes sense from a cost perspective. Whether it make sense to actually pay the premium for them depends on whether the tweaks he say they did are things you've been wishing for.
